Hi everyone! We are joining The Cat on My Head’s Sunday Selfie Blog Hop.We call these the trying to cover our ears so we don’t have to listen to mom sing Christmas songs selfies.
We are not joining any hops today. This post is dedicated to Phoebe’s Purrince. I never thought when she left for the Rainbow Bridge last year that he would be joining her so soon. Rest in peace sweet boy.

My comments are shut off today because he was not mine to mourn although I still do mourn for him.
Here are the fill-ins for Friday. I came up with the first 2 and my co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with the second 2.
Hi everyone. Before we get started we want to offer condolences to Colehaus Cats who had to say goodbye to beautiful Ruby. If you haven’t visited yet, be sure to click on the link above.
We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. I am thankful that I have a Grammie person. She is the best! Look what she bought for me. I was so happy, I did a handstand.
Here is my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day to go with this photo:
I used ribbet to make my art, Joanie is enjoying a sun beam with Gremmie ( she gave him some shades because as you know, gremlins don’t like bright light).
Did anyone notice Gremmie was wielding a potato peeler on Thursday?
Here are my thankfuls-
- The big snowstorm missed us, we only got a dusting.
- Pinterest– great for finding recipes, crochet ideas and toddler crafts to name just a few of my boards.
- The Great One is a fun age, we made Easter cards and she did such a good job with the ink pad and paint. I took photos, but they are on my mom’s phone at the moment.
- No vet trips this week.
- I read in Catster that Matilda the cat at the Algonquin passed away in October. That made me sad, but I am thankful that I got to meet her when we stayed there in 2015.
6. My Sammy was in the latest episode of The Codmother-click here.
7. Cheap cabbage -I made a big casserole of golompki ( stuffed cabbage)
8. Went shopping and to lunch with my mom.
9. My dvd set of the tv show Homefront, I am enjoying binge watching it. I loved it when it ran in 1991-1992. It was never sold on dvd, but a few years ago I found this on Amazon. I didn’t realize it when I ordered it that someone had copied it from the tv so it isn’t the best quality, but it is better than nothing. It is funny at the end of each show the voice over says what is going to be on Dateline that night- even back then people were complaining about the president.
10. Reese’s pieces, I gave up chocolate for Lent so they have been my sweet of choice. I know I should have given up all sweets, but I didn’t.
Don’t forget the #SciFIPawty is all day from 11 AM -11PM with Stunning Keisha as dj at 9 PM.
Today we celebrate Martin Luther King Day in the USA so I chose a quote from him for my Spark: “Faith is taking that first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
I hope we are all brave enough and have enough faith to take that first step to wherever we want to be.
Now that Joanie has Gremmie under control , she has a book review. I read, French for Cats: All the French Your Cats Will Ever Need by Henry Beard. Here are some words I learned.
I purr- Je ronronne
I sleep -Je dors
the mouse -la souris
the fish-le poisson
I think I am going to cough up a fur ball- Je crois que je vaid cracher une boule de poils
I don’t know why they call fish poison, it not poison, it is tasty.
Thank you Joanie, I think your gremlin needs you now.
I have also been reading a lot. Before Christmas, I won Jackson Galaxy’s new book, Total Cat Mojo from Caren and Cody’s blog. I have been learning a lot from it. I sometimes think I know everything about cats after living with so many for so long, but that is definitely not the case. He actually recommends having a litter box in the bedroom and living room. Apparently, cats don’t like the privacy we do when going potty. Maybe that is why they like to join us in the bathroom 🙂
At the moment, we are not having issues, but if any do come up, I will try a box in one of those places despite not really wanting to have one in those areas. If you haven’t read this yet, I highly recommend it. ( I won a copy of the book, but I am under no obligation to review it. I just like to tell people about good books).
Hi everyone! I am joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. I am thankful that all of you have been so accepting of me. I know I will never be as fun as Phoebe, but I will try my best.
And to thank you all , I am having a giveaway. Just comment on today’s post for a chance to win. I will announce the winner on Sunday so you have until Saturday night 9pm (EST) to enter. The prize is this ghost print catnip mat and 2 crocheted catnip ghosts.
Brody wants me to tell you how he caught two bats and a rat
Now for my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day, featuring the letter S.
Some spiders are hairy

but most are smaller than a twig.
We have all kinds in this house
maybe I will hide one in mom’s blouse.
And now the Friendly Fill-ins for tomorrow. Mom came up with the first two and Annie of McGuffy’s Reader came up with the second two.

Hi everyone. I am going to take a short break from blogging because of Phoebe’s health. She had been doing so well eating, but she seemed weak so I took her to the vet Saturday.
She was dehydrated so she got her fluids. Her weight went down again despite eating well and is now 4 pounds 12 ounces. We are waiting on some blood work results that will be in on Monday. Her anemia has gotten worse too, but we don’t know if the cause is kidney disease or something else.
Annie at McGuffy’s Reader will still run the Friendly Fill-Ins on Friday if I am not blogging then. I just want to spend my time with her just in case we don’t have much more time.
All purrs and prayers are appreciated. Thank you.
Hi everyone! We are joining Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? and Comedy Plus’ Awww… Monday Blog Hops.
While Joanie is on hiatus from her role on The Codd Mother, she will continue with her book reviews.
This one is good idea, every year only 12 weeks long so that means we will have Christmas every 12 weeks.
Thank you Joanie. I really enjoyed The 12 Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lenington. This book came out in 2009 so I am a little late to the party, but it is definitely worth a read. They explain how we accomplish so much from October through December because we are at the end of the year and running out of time so if we think of a year as 12 weeks we will start to accomplish more all the time. They explain how to break down goals into tactics to accomplish them and how to keep score.
I also enjoyed comedian Kevin Hart’s memoir, I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons. I had actually never heard of him before, but I like memoirs so I gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised. Kevin Hart is a comedian so there was some vulgar language, but overall it was a nice book. He writes about all the hard work he had to put in to become a comedian. So many people think they are funny and can just get up on stage and tell jokes, but it is so much more than that. He has also learned a lot from his mistakes and shares that information too.
Hi everyone ! A few of you knew what kind of collars Sammy and Brody had on in yesterday’s post because you have also used them. For those that didn’t know, I am eager to tell you because I like to share information that can help other cats.
My sweet Cat Scout, Sammy was getting to be very aggressive toward Brody. He has always chased him, but now he was making contact and getting Brody’s fur in his claws. He was also peeing on the bed once in a while too. Spraying Feliway helped a little, but not enough. Luckily, Teddy’s Mom, wrote to me about calming collars and how she heard they really work. I immediately called the local pet store, but they didn’t have any. After researching them online, good old Chewy had the best price of $12.98 for a 3 pack. I ordered them and they arrived in less than 24 hours.
The collars have phermones ( just like Feliway) and they also are lavender scented. I had read that lavender is calming, but I am sensitive top smells and was not thrilled by the scent. It was bearable though, I usually get an instant headache from scented candles, perfumes and scented cat litter, but this didn’t give me a headache. I checked the 3 brands sold by Chewy and all are basically the same so I went with the Sentry brand after reading the reviews.
I was just going to put one on Sammy, but my husband thought if Brody and Sammy smelled the same, it would help. Brody used to be a little too frisky and chased any cat that walked past him. He just wanted to play, but the other cats got nervous. I am happy to say they have both calmed down a lot.
On day one there was a big improvement, but Sammy still went after Brody. I think it was more of a habit though because he started to chase him then stopped like he was thinking, ” why am I doing this?” It has been over a week now and we have a peaceful home. I am thinking of trying them on some of the other cats too like Jinx who hates other cats and KaTwo who suffers from feline hyperesthesia. Maybe I should try one too for when I go to the crowded mall on a weekend.
They are supposed to last a month and I will continue for a few months then I will see if they behave without. Even if I have to buy them forever, they are well worth the expense. Has anyone else used them and if so, were you as pleased with the results?
*This is not a sponsored post, I just wanted to spread the word about a great product.
