Hi everyone! You are probably wondering why this post is titled Tubby Tuesday.
Brody has been getting quite tubby. My hubby calls him Stubby because he does have short legs and a full body. I was going to make him a vet appointment because I know I don’t feed him enough for him to gain that much weight. I was wondering if he had a slow thyroid like me, but then my hubby caught him in action the other morning. I keep Phoebe’s food on a high cupboard in the hallway. I didn’t think anyone would go up there because it is very narrow, but I was wrong. He was up there wolfing down her grain. She likes to eat during the night so I keep it available because if I start opening containers , everyone will come rushing in and expect a snack. I am guessing he has been doing this for a few months which explains his weight gain. I know keep it inside the cabinet.
Hi everyone ! I thought I would do a Mancat Monday with a Brody update.
He basically lives in the upstairs bathroom which is quite small. I open the door every morning and close it before bed. Throughout the day, he will venture down and try to befriend the others only to be met with hisses. Last week, my hubby claims that Brody attacked his princess, Prancie. He squirted him with the spray bottle and he came right back after her. I honestly think he was attempting to play. Unfortunately, now the hubby doesn’t like him. Spooky had hissed at him about 2 weeks before he left us. My hubby is taking Spooky’s passing very hard and I think he feels like he would be betraying Spooky to make friends with Brody. I mentioned that and he said he just doesn’t like that cat.( No worries, Brody is here to stay so they will have to coexist).
Brody is braver with me and will eat in front of me. For several weeks, he wouldn’t even look at the food if I was there. When he is downstairs though, he runs the minute I move at all. I am wondering if I should just keep being patient and hoping things will work out or if I should crate him ( I have a large crate with plenty of room for a litter box). I would keep him in the living room and hopefully the others would get used to him and accept him. I appreciate any advice. Thank you.
I also bought a Feliway diffuser for multi-cat homes. I probably need about 5, but I got one for the living room to start. The vet assured me they are better and don’t get as hot (I tossed my last one because I was afraid of a fire). Isn’t he a cutie?
Hi everyone! I thought I would give you a Brody ( aka Daryl the Feral) update and ask for advice, tips or whatever you have to offer.
We were doing so well—–when he was caged because of his stitches. I was able to pet him and everything. He did meow a lot at night, but that was bearable. After he got his stitches removed, I moved him to the upstairs bathroom so he would have a safe zone. I left the door open when I was around to supervise and he did come downstairs—to meow and meow. At night, I shut him in and the next morning I opened the door to find that he moved a board out of the way to hide in a cubby hole in the bathroom.
And this is where he always is. He comes out to eat/drink and use the litter box which are in the bathroom. He had been sneaking down late at night and one night he even settled on the kitty bunk bed for a while. Then I ruined everything because I am impatient and wanted to be able to pet him again. When he was downstairs, I snuck upstairs and blocked off his hidey hole. I followed him up to the bathroom with the hope of petting him and he freaked out, he didn’t try to hurt me, but he sure can scurry.
The rest of the night, he wouldn’t go toward the bathroom and I felt awful for ruining his safe place. Finally after a few hours , he decided to try it again and got back in his cubby hole. Now he won’t venture downstairs. He likes to stand at the top of the steps all evening and meow and meow. Snowball and Phoebe have gone up to investigate, but he runs back to the hole.
He is such a sweet boy and doesn’t slash out or bite. He is just so afraid of humans and other kitties. I have given him several toys and he has no interest in them. I don’t know what else to do to make him feel safe Has anyone else dealt with a cat like this?
On Petfinder, I have seen many cats listed as “spirit” cats. I have a feeling that is what Brody is going to be- a noisy spirit. I wonder if there is a kitty anxiety medicine that would help? My kitties are very friendly and would be good to him if he would give them a chance. I welcome any ideas to help him.
No matter what, I am not giving up on him. I am just looking for ideas. Thank you.
Happy Thursday everyone! Today is behavior day and I have my first Christmas calamity to report:
KaTwo knocked this little guy on the floor and his nose broke off. It is actually the second “incident”, someone broke a light off the string of lights in the bathroom. I have a strand of lights over a wicker reindeer and when I went to light it the other day, it wouldn’t light- so much for if one goes out, the rest stay lit. Luckily, it wasn’t plugged in when someone chomped the light off and no one ingested it.
Be sure to protect your snowman decorations- they have delicate noses.
Does anyone have any incidents at their house to report?
We are hopping today:
I am thankful that I am done Christmas shopping and didn’t completely max out the credit card. Have a great day everyone! HappyDay 3 of Hanukkah:
Happy Thursday eveyone! Today is behavior day and I am going to tell you about Snowball and how she hates me. She was at a shelter for over a year after being rescued from a hoarder.
When I first got her, she would run from us and now she only runs when I try to pet her. The odd thing is that if I am eating chicken or turkey, I can pet her all I want as long as I share. She also likes to give me dirty looks which is kind of funny. Here is a photo of her sitting not far from me and staring:
I am pleased that she loves to play and gets along great with all the other kitties. I would love for her to sit on my lap or at least not run when I try to pet her, but I don’t think it will happen anytime soon. When I adopted her last year, it took her almost a month to start purring so there is some hope.
We are always thankful for all that we have in life.
Happy Thursday Everyone! Today is behavior day and I want to say how proud I am of my kitties. There are 8 of the 15 that have an all access pass to the Christmas Tree and no one ever destroys it or climbs it. Once in a while, I find an ornament down, but I leave all the unbreakables on the bottom braches for them.
I go to Macy’s a lot ( every week) so I thought it was OK to take 15 of these letters for Santa that they have out for the kids to fill in. They are free and there is no sign stating they are for kids only.
We are hopping. Joanie is thankful to be rid of her stitches and cone. I am thankful to everyone who reads this blog. It has become such a part of my life and reason to get up in the morning ( other than hungry cats 🙂 )
Happy Thursday everyone! Joanie had her second surgery yesterday and the vet is pretty confident that she got it all as she cut wider and deeper ( poor Joanie). I am still having the tissue sent out to be sure. I can’t believe it costs $171 just to check it . I am not a scientist so I just don’t know why that part is so costly. It is more than the actual surgery ( including meds and anesthesia).
Thursday is behavior day and I know cats are very sensitive to smell which can cause them to attack a resident cat that has been to the vet. Last week when I picked up Joanie, the vet tech told me to rub her with a towel or blanket that other cats had slept on. I told her that I wouldn’t need to do that, my kitties are sweet. And sure enough, they all recognized her when she got home. She is part of the main 8 that are in the main living area of the house. We have several zones and I know some of the others have hissed at others on return from the vet.
I wonder why some are not bothered at all and others are? They can all see and should be able to know that is their sibling. I am proud of most of mine though for not being bullies.
We are joining Pepismart dog’s blog hop: I am thankful Joanie got through both surgeries. I am also thankful for such a supportive group of readers and fellow bloggers who purred and prayed.
Have a nice day everyone!
Happy Thursday everyone! I can’t believe Thanksgiving is only 2 weeks away-I really need to buy a turkey. I love Thanksgiving, no gifts, just food and family. I love giving gifts, but I like to have a holiday where I just worry about perfecting the food. Plus almsot all the vegetables we will be having were home grown- I feel like a pilgrim. We did forget to grown butternut squash this year so I will have to purchase that.
Today is Behavior day and I am sure many of you have this problem. Cats like to scratch rugs. We don’t have many rugs, only a couple braided ones and Lucy loves to sink her claws into that. Every year, for about 5 years in a row, I would have to cut the outer braids off the rug before the holidays. It was getting smaller and smaller then about 6 years ago, the dog had an accident right in the middle of it on Christmas Eve. What a way to clear a room- all thanks to the guests slipping her snacks all evening. Eventually that rug got cleaned and ended up on the enclosed porch. We bought another rug from someone on Craigslist and luckily, Lucy isn’t as interested in it so I haven’t had to alter it.
Hope you have a nice day and don’t forget starting Saturday is the last chance to try for those catnip turkey legs.
As always we are hopping with Pepismartdog: I am thankful this week that Joanie’s dental went well ( no extractions) and her bump was removed. We won’t know for a while if it is cancerous or not, but even if it was, I am hopeful that they got it all. The photo is blurry, but this is where her stitches are. She is supposed to wear a cone, but she kept bumping into things and wouldn’t relax so I am just going to keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t scratch it.
