I Give My Cats Aspirin

Hi everyone! Poor Penny is being bumped today. I want to pass some important information along to all of you.

I have always read that aspirin is a no-no for cats so I was shocked when Emmy’s cardiologist prescribed one half of a baby aspirin twice a week. She is also on two heart medicines.

Sammy has a murmur so he went to the same cardiologist for an echocardiogram and was also prescribed the same aspirin regimen. Then I went to the regular vet with Polar Bear. I recently changed all the cats over to this new place because I was unhappy with the care at VCA. Well, this new vet ( new to us, she has been in business over 20 years) recommended the aspirin for him too. Polar Bear has a thyroid problem like Sammy and also has a murmur ( all my hyperthyroid cats have murmurs). This vet gives all her hyperthyroid cats a whole baby aspirin twice a week. I am staying cautious and only doing the half twice a week.

The reason this was prescribed was because hyperthyroid cats with murmurs are more prone to blood clots. I had never heard this before. Has anyone else been told this? I am curious to know. Plus, if you haven’t been told this, I hope you will ask about it if your cat has these conditions. I also plan to ask if all my older cats should be given this like how aspirin is prescribed for older humans.

This is one of the gifts I gave my mom for her birthday. It is a travel mug from Summer’s Zazzle store. My mom is a big fan of Summer.

We Won a Catit Vesper Cottage!

Hi everyone! Poor Penny is getting bumped from her tips today so we could show you what we won from Sweet Purrfections. We won this at the end of March and it was delivered right away. I left it in the box for my hubby to put together, but he has been busy with outdoor tasks. Then I remembered that I didn’t need him to assemble this- no tools are even needed.

*Disclosure-I won a Catit Vesper Cottage. I am not required to do a review. All opinions are my own.

All I need is my Sammy.

I got this mom

It was idiot proof! You just slide the pieces together like a fun puzzle. It comes in oak and white. I chose white because I have a white bookcase and a shelf in the bedroom which is where this piece will be located.

Joanie and Sammy were eager to test it out when it was on the bed. As you can see, it has 2 levels, and came with a cushion for each level. It is very sturdy and I like the little cat head carved in the top.

Once I set it on the floor, they lost interest, but I am sure they will go back to it. Thank you Sweet Purrfections and Catit for this amazing prize.

Millie’s Basepaw’s Results

Hi everyone! Poor Penny got her post bumped again. Millie wants to tell you about his Basepaw results. Almost a year ago, we won a kit on the blog,  Pets Overload. I chose Millie to test because I was certain he had some Siamese in him. He is quite vocal which is one of their traits.

*Disclaimer: I won a Basepaws kit. I am not required to write a review. All opinions are my own.

He was shocked with the results.

This is what they wrote:

Now let’s talk about Millie! We sequenced Millie’s DNA, which we extracted from the sample you’ve submitted to us. This resulted in 19,183,303 DNA fragments sequenced, which represents 2,472,946,222 DNA bases that were sequenced. Using this data along with the latest cat genome (felis_catus_9.0), we analyzed genetic variants across 18 chromosomes to generate this report.

We assigned Millie to the Western breed group based on the comparative genomic similarity to breeds belonging to the Western group. Within the Western breed group, we ranked the individual member breeds based on how similar your cat is to each breed.

Millie is most related to a Maine Coon. I know nothing about genetics, but I am not convinced. I think Basepaws is a good idea, but needs some work. It took around 10 months to get our results which seems like a long time. I am glad I won a kit, but honestly, I would expect more if I had paid the $95. I checked the website and an Alpha kit will be available soon ( I assume it will cost more money), but it will include health information which could be useful.

Fat Tuesday

Hi everyone! Today is Mardi Gras so several of my kitties have agreed to pose with beads. First though, Joanie wants to tell you about her new food. I know dry food is not recommended, but that is all Joanie can eat. She has yacked up every canned food I tried on her and she tends to eat the dry too fast and yack that up too. When my friend told me about PawTree and sent me a sample for Joanie I was thrilled.

*Disclosure: I was sent a sample of PawTree Real Chicken Recipe for cats. I was not asked to do a review, but I am choosing to. All opinions are my own.

As you can see in the photo, the pieces are small. She usually eats out of a bowl, but I thought it would be easier to see the food this way. It is made in the USA. No corn, wheat or soy. You can check out all the facts by clicking here. The link goes directly to my friend’s PawTree page so she can get a commission on sales. They have several other flavors too and canned food which I will be ordering for Joanie to test soon.  Joanie has been eating this for a few weeks and so far, no yacking- knock on wood , 3 times. My only complaint is shipping costs, but Joanie is worth it. Now on to the beads!

Tuft + Paw

Before we get started, we want to give our condolences to the family of Madi. She was everyone’s BFF, a Crotchety Cougar and a Cat Scout too. We were very sad to see she left for The Rainbow Bridge.

Prancie is excited to tell you about her new bed from Tuft + Paw.

*Disclosure: We received a cave from Tuft +Paw in exchange for a fair review. All opinions are our own.

Joanie tested it first.

It even came with this adorable removable liner that is washable.

The cave is 100 % wool and measures 9 inches high, 18 inches wide and 21 inches long. When I first saw it, I thought it looked small and that no cat would go in, but I was wrong. After Joanie got out of it, Prancie got in and hasn’t come out except for the litter box and food/water. Of course, when I went to take her photo, she decided to get up.

It also comes with a 30 day guarantee. If your cat decides he/she is not satisfied within 30 days, you can return it for a full refund ( except shipping costs). The price of this cave is $129, but it is well worth it for the quality. To read more about it, click here.

Tuft + Paw also carries teepees, hammocks, scratching posts, cat trees, blankets, carriers and so much more. To visit Tuft + Paw, click here.

Wordy Wednesday

Hi everyone! We have a tasty food to tell you about today.

*We received 2 free can of Redbarn Naturals chicken pate in exchange for a fair review. All opinions are our own.

When I was contacted by the Red Barn company, I checked out their website and saw the food was full of what I believe to be good ingredients so I agreed to let my cats test it.

Here is the ingredient list for the chicken pate:Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Garbanzo Beans, Natural Flavor, Alfalfa Meal, Cranberries, Agar-Agar, Parsley, Blueberries, Salmon Oil, Choline Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Taurine, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Dried Green Lipped Mussel (Source of Lysine), Yucca Schidigera, L-carnitine, Magnesium Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, , Zinc Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Niacin Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D2 Supplement, Folic Acid.

And it is made in the USA!

The two kitties I have that love pate are Emmy and Prancie so I let them do the taste test.

Ask you can see, Prancie loved it.

Emmy did too, but I didn’t get her photo. She is miffed because she is off to the cardiologist today for a 6 month checkup to see how her heart meds are working so I didn’t want to force the flashy box on her.

Redbarn carries several flavors of cat food and treats as well as dog food too. You can check the ingredients and use the store locator on their website. Click here.

I checked and Chewy also carries all their products.

Emmy’s Eye Envy

Hi everyone! A few weeks ago, we won a giveaway from Sweet Purrfections. Eye Envy is perfect for kitties that get discoloration under their eyes. This tends to happen to some Persian cats that have flatter faces. Emmy is not a Persian, but the vet told me she has a blocked tear duct.

*Disclosure-we won a 3 piece set of Eye Envy for Cats. We are under no obligation to do a review, but we like to spread the word about great products.

I just started using it on her, but I already think she looks better. The kit came with pads ( basically like eye makeup remover ones), a liquid and a powder. You pot some liquid on the pad to wipe under the eye after you have wiped it clean with a warm washcloth. Then you dab some powder on. It is all natural. If you are interested, you can get more information by clicking here.

Emmy is going for an ultrasound today. She has a significant heart murmur so I thought it would be wise to look into that. I have several cats with heart murmurs, the odd thing is Snowball is the one I lost to heart disease last year and she never had a murmur.

So much about Emmy is a mystery. The vet guessed her to be anywhere from 6-14 years of age. She has a faded spay scar, but there were no other clues to her age. I always have this odd feeling that I should not get too attached to her. It is too late for that though, I love my Emmy.
