Penny’s Tips Volume 46

Hi everyone!   If you follow my tip today, you won’t need to have a fly swatter anymore.

Just take a ziplock bag and add water and at least 4 pennies ( not me).  Then you hang it above your door. Something about the flies complex eyes makes them move away because it magnifies the light entering their eyes. Too bad it doesn’t work on nasty mosquitoes.

Penny’s Tips Volume 45

Hi everyone! Apparently Mom got the hint when I left a plastic eyeball in her shoe. If I didn’t get to write my post today, it was going to be her eyeball in the shoe next time.

I sent my mom outside to get me a slug and instead she comes in with all these peaches. I don’t have a tip for peaches-unless you make them into a pie then you may want my pie crust tip. Click here.

She isn’t too bright. She was digging for slugs until Dad explained those are grubs. Slugs are not in the ground. We don’t have any slugs around, but if you do, you can repel them with pennies. They need to be made before 1983 ( that counts me out) because it is the copper content in them that repels the slugs. You can read how to make a penny ball for your garden. Click here

See you next week!

Penny’s Tips Volume 44

Hi everyone! I wasn’t going to do a post today because I am still mad that I got bumped last week for the sock post. And that she didn’t have socks made with ME on them. But, I don’t want to disappoint my loyal fans.

My tip today is a game. You will need several pennies ( at least 10) with different dates on them. And you will need 2 of each date. Then you flip them all over so their tails are up. The first person to play will flip over 2 to see if they match, if not, you flip them back over and the next player does the same. If you get a match, you get to keep them and take another turn. Keep playing until all the pennies are matched. The winner is the one with the most pennies at the end.

This would be fun for older kids. It is also good for adults to keep those brain cells working.

Penny’s Tips Volume 43

Hi everyone! My mom told me to go fly a kite.

I had trouble making it balance so I added a penny to the  rear of the keel (the keel is the vertical piece of sail material beneath the kite to keep it stable).

Can you guess who is really going to fly this kite?

Penny’s Tips Volume 42- The Canadian Penny Edition

Hi everyone! I am going to tell you about some valuable Canadian Pennies today, but first I have a surprise for you. Mom asked her graphic designer friend to make me a badge and I want to share it with all my fans. Please feel free to display it on your sidebar. And if you need a graphic designer, we highly recommend him, click here.

Now on to those Canadian pennies. I know they are not in circulation anymore, but you may still have some around.   Did you know there is one worth $400,000? It is a 1936 “dot” penny. When King Edward VIII abdicated the throne and King George VI ascended there was no time to change the face on the coin so a tiny raised dot was placed under the coin date to denote those were struck in 1937, not 1936. If you find one, don’t forget who told you about it 🙂

I will fill you in on more valuable Canadian pennies in future editions.

Penny’s Tips Volume 41

Hi everyone! Look what I got from one of my fans.

My friend, Vicky of Eastside Cats recently visited the Denver Mint. She got me a shiny new, uncirculated penny and a blank one too.

Sorry, they came out blurry. My photographer is not the best.

Thank you! That was so thoughtful of you. Now I need to go hide them from my Dad.

One more thing- I want to give a shout out to my folks. Today is the 30 year anniversary of their first date ( yes, they are old).

Penny’s Tips Volume 40

Hi everyone! I am still looking through pennies for some worth more than one cent.

Did you know that an 1856 Flying Eagle penny is worth $ 12,850 ? I think one has a better chance of winning the lottery than finding one though. There were only 2000 were made as a pattern coin as it wasn’t supposed to be distributed until 1857. Several of these were in circulation though.

Penny’s Tips Volume 39

Hi everyone! My post got bumped last week for a review and I didn’t even get to try the new Catit bed. Something about my reputation for peeing on cardboard made mom think I would pee on that too.

I am still going through my pennies. Did you know some 1955 pennies are worth $1,000? They are called double die pennies and were minted in Philadelphia so if you find one with a D ( for Denver) or S ( for San Fransisco) under the date then you don’t have a good one. The good ones have no letter under the 1955. You will also notice the inscription doubled on it too. In the coming weeks, I will tell you about other pennies worth a lot of money. Of course, I am the most valuable Penny there is-that is what Mom says.

Sammy is going for the echocardiogram of his heart today to find out why it is galloping. Any purrs and prayers would be appreciated.

Penny’s Tips Volume 38

Hi everyone! Penny has a tip for you today, but first Joanie wants to announce the winner of the Star Wars Giveaway.

And the winner is Mark’s Mews. Congratulations!

Hi everyone! Did you know there are some pennies out there worth up to $200,000. Not me, I am worth way more than that.

In 1943 there was a copper shortage so pennies were made out of steel, but about 40 were made of copper and some are still in circulation. In January one sold for $204,000 at an auction. To read more, click here.

Let me help you Penny. We sure could buy a lot of treats with that kind of money.

Penny’s Tips Volume 37

Hi everyone. Penny has a tip for you today, but first I want to apologize to all who tried to visit on Monday and couldn’t get to the post. I updated some plug-ins and something went wrong. GoDaddy was able to restore and get the blog back , but so far Monday’s post is missing. If it doesn’t return, I will redo it because I want all the letters for the A-Z challenge.

Now on to Penny.

Hi everyone! I have a great tip for you today. You can use pennies to have a contest. You can fill a jar and have people guess how many are in the jar. I am having a contest today, Emmy said I can give away a copy of her book, I Am Not A Skunk. Whoever guesses how many pennies are in this sugar bowl is the winner. Sorry, my cheap mom said we can only mail in the USA. If more than one of you guesses correctly, I will draw names. You have until Friday at 9 PM ( EST) to put your guess on this post. I will announce the winner on Saturday’s post. Good luck!

And today is T day for The A-Z Blogging Challenge. T is for toys and to save money you can make your own.  As you know, I crochet toys and sew catnip mats, but you don’t even have to crochet or sew to make toys. You can take a sock, fill it with nip and tie the end. Check Pinterest for more ideas too.
