Hi everyone! Did you miss me?

Today, I have a money saving tip for you about cakes. Instead of spending a fortune at the bakery or grocery store, you can make your own with buttercream frosting instead of that crap they push now called better cream.

Below is a photo of how the cake mom made with the girls is supposed to look and beside it is the cake they decorated.

Sorry mom, you did not nail it.  Mom was too cheap to buy a cake doll and she wouldn’t amputate Elsa’s legs so she bent them and it caused the cake to split. Then the kids weren’t that into frosting it ( except the tasting part).

Anyhow, mom used a large measuring cup to cook the cake in so it would be shaped like the dress. She just used a box mix for the cake. Then she found a simple yet tasty recipe online at the Two Sister’s Blog. For the recipe, click here.  Way back in 1992, she took a class in cake decorating so she had the tips and bags to decorate. If you don’t have them, you can get some at a dollar store or Temu. Mom is a Temu affiliate so please click here if you visit Temu.

And speaking  of Temu ( mom is seriously addicted to that place). She got herself a present.

She thinks it looks like Friday.

Rosie will be back with two weeks’ worth of gossip next week.

We are joining Comedy Plus’ Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

  2. I love that tuxedo kitty sign…and we are laughing along witth theTabbies!!
Your cake was cute…its the memories made that count far more than the work itself. It kindof looks like the doll was sitting in the cake 😺👸🥰

  3. Hi there sweet girl, we always miss you, so glad to see you here today😺Now about that cake…we think that’s kind of Marilyn Monroe dress and Barbie fell down, because of the wind, so your mom definitely nailed it if you see it this way imo…😸Double Pawkisses for a Happy Week ahead to all of you sweet furriends🐾😸💞

  4. Mom and I think your “version” of the cake definitely “NAILED IT” !!! It’s much more artsy and free form and tasty looking too. My Mom thinks the sign your Mom got is absolutely hilarious!!!!

    Hugs, Teddy

  5. The cake was great! Nothing beats one baked and iced from scratch made with love and not
factory line. Mom made me a doll cake a life time ago and I wish back in the 60’s she would have
taken photos of these things. Never a one. I took cake decorating lessons back in the early ’70’s and did fancy stuff just for us at the time. No more. Love Penny and the Friday look alike.

  6. I think the cake turned out great! I love the butt napkin sign!!

  7. The girls are very fortunate to have you as their Aunt. They probably love coming over, and while they’re learning so much about crafting. That will stand them in good stead all their lives and they can pass it down to their own children. The cake is beautiful! I would never in a million years think to bake it like that! Rosie..looking forward to the gossip. You always have the good stuff!

  8. Love your version of the cake! I also LOVE the bathroom sign … I wish it were not green!

    1. Thank you. 🙂 It doesn’t match my bathroom , but I put it in there anyway. 🙂 XO

  9. How fun and since I love you I’ll agree that you nailed it. I still thing it was fun.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday, Ellen. Scritches to all the kitties. xo ♥

  10. Java Bean: “A cake doll? Ayyy, they have stuffies you can put into a cake? Why don’t we have one of those?”
Charlee: “We approve of any product that has a tuxedo cat on it!”
Chaplin: “Yes we do! Although we are more notorious for unrolling the butt napkins all over the floor than presenting them for use …”

    1. Thank you. 🙂 I couldn’t resist because it looked so much like her and she is quite sassy. 🙂 XO

  11. Hi Penny! Yes, of course, you were missed. How fun to make your own cake. I have to check out Temu. I’ve been wondering about that site.

  12. When #2 Son got married the first time, he tried to make the cake and that’s about how it turned out, i had to hurry to a bakery and buy cakes for the wedding.

I like that sign your mama got!

  13. Yes we missed you so much, you Great Tips Kitty! And wow for the cake! Mama had never heard of one but she made heart cakes often. Oh, and a shoe 👠 once.

  14. My my goodness, even I wanted that doll cake! But n=my decorating skills are not great. Hmmmm.but my three daughters are! hahaha I am not a fan of all the bio engineered products these days. Whoever pushed them I know for a fact doesn’t eat any of it! I love homemade frosting and homemade cakes too. Dollar Tree dolls are great to use for those doll cakes. Thank you Ellen for your advice on my sweet boy and always fpr being such a great friend.

  15. I always find something fun here and photos too. Makes me happy! Enjoy the week as it is going by quickly.
