Penny’s Tips Volume 149

Hi everyone! Did you miss me?

Pardon the earmuffs. It’s that time of year again. No, not the cold weather. Mom is singing Christmas carols, and my little ears can’t take it. How can someone sing so bad?

Anyhow, I am here with some money saving tips for you. I know money is tight for everyone and Christmas can be costly. One idea is to start a new plant for someone. Mom is starting one of her yellow Christmas cacti to give as a gift to a friend. You could also use your cooking or crafting skills to make gifts. Mom makes a lot of lasagnas then freezes them to give as gifts.

You can also check Freecycle or Craigslist for toys. A lot of things are barely used and already assembled like the castle mom bought for The Potato Heads last year. She paid $35 and only a year before her niece bought one for The Great One for over $100 and her hubby had to assemble it. Mom buys used books for gifts too, just be sure to find ones that are marked like new.

Hope some of these tips can help you to save money. I hope you all have a nice Advent season.

  1. Love the ‘Muff’ look!! Hey at least your Mom tries!! I bet she’s singing along to songs on the radio or TV, right??
Sometimes we hear petcretary singing along a violin part that she knows…we think she’d do a lot better with real songs.
Right now she’s listening to classical Christmas music…and much of it isn’t too familiar to her, being as a lot comes from other countries and their traditions…but its great to hear it all…with a familiar carol tossed in here and there. Then she sings!! Usually the alto parts, LOL!

Love the Santa and his sleigh!!

    1. Thank you. Yes, she sings to Christmas cd’s. I bet your mom sings really well. XO

  2. GREAT IDEAS!!!! AND YES, WE MAKE COOKIES FOR GIFTS AND OUR CHRISTMAS MARKET. The only thing is, mama is putting them in boxes from Caron, which are really beautiful and she didn’t want to trash them, but the receivers might think they are getting nice perfume…haha. PS The boxes don’t smell of their long-ago contents…
And how do you put those lovely little moving Santas and snowflakes into your blogsite??? Just wonderful. And yes, books for gifts…brilliant tips, you darling kitty. Santa just flew over our comment. HOW????

    1. I bet your mama’s cookies are amazing as she is a professional chef. I think Santa is a plug-in, my friend added it. XO

  3. That is a very good idea. Our Christmas cactus is sadly slowly rotting from the back. The front is still doing well and covered in buds. We know it is at least 75 years old, probably well in excess of 80! Ivor’s parents brought it with them when they moved to Devon in 1955 and it was a mature plant then and was Ivor’s grandmother’s plant before that.

  4. WE MISSED YOU of course!! Thanks for all the amazing hints on how to save $$ with gifting! Mom also thought the Santa on his sleigh that came across the screen while we were reading comments here was ADORABLE!

    Love and Holiday Hugs, Teddy

  5. Wow, love the Santa, reindeer & sleigh and snowflakes! These are all great tips, Penny. My dad loves Freecycle, and Craigslist, though annoyingly filled with scammy posts, can most certainly be a goldmine for freebies or very low-cost items. Oh, and nice earmuffs!

  6. Penny, you love seeing Santa Claus and is eight tiny reindeer run across the screen this morning. We have a heard of the full size ones in the backyard. Your mommy has great ideas for gifts. We used to also do flowers for other people by getting them started in cute little flower pots. Good reminder.

  7. Those are great ideas, Penny. I love your ear muffs. I won’t tell mom you don’t like her singing. MOL

  8. I will come over and sing with mom. It would be fun. You made me laugh with the earmuffs though.

Great tips on saving money. Many go into debt this time of year.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday, Ellen. Scritches to the kitties. xo ♥

  9. OhMyGosh… Super cute with the ear muffs, Penny! And on your Dad’s lap. You all have been getting in some lap time. Of course you were missed. I am listening to Christmas music right now and singing along to songs that are my favorites. I am listening to Mel Torme’s channel. Penny, SSNS tells me I can’t carry a tune in a bucket… I think he heard that from his Mom!

    1. Thank you. Mom was told to mouth the words in college choir. Mom likes Mel Torme. XO

  10. Those are great tips.

I’ll bet your mom sings most things just fine if the notes are in the middle of the scale. Remind her not to try for the high ones, those come out awful.

A blessed and beautiful Advent to you all!
