Pet Blogger Challenge

Hi everyone. I am taking the Pet Blogger Challenge hosted by GoPetFriendly . But first a Stinky update. She didn’t want to eat on Saturday which I know could lead to a lot of problems. I had medicine left from Lucy so I gave her a dose of mirtazapine (( 1/8 of a pill). After a while, she did want some food, not as much as usual, but she did eat few times. It made her very loopy though and I feared we were going to lose her. I am going to call the eye specialist Monday morning and explain that we can’t wait until Friday and see if they can get us in sooner. I am very scared for her so please keep praying and purring.

1. How long have you been blogging? And, for anyone who is visiting for the first time, please give a quick description of the subject of your blog.

I have been blogging for 1 year and 7 months. My blog is about the life my husband and I share with our 14 cats.

2. What is the one thing that you accomplished during 2015, either on your blog or because of it, that made you most proud?

In 2015, I was able to spread the word about kitties in need and I know some of my readers donated to help. I am proud to be part of such a caring group of cat lovers.

3. Which of your blog posts was your favorite this year and why? (Please include a link.)

Phoebe’s posts are my favorites ( she gets more comments than I do too). My favorite would be when she started The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bikini:

4. A common theme from last year’s challenge was that many of us wanted to increase the size of our audiences. Whether or not we intend to monetize our blogs, it seems we’d all like to reach more people. It feels good to know that we’re connecting with others, sharing a laugh or supporting a cause, and it’s motivating to see those numbers grow! What is one thing you’ve done in the past year that has brought more traffic to your blog?

I join every hop and blog sharing post that I can. This has helped me find more blogs to read and brought me more readers.

5.Which of your blog posts got the most traffic this year? Why do you think it was so popular? (Please include a link.)  Goodbye My Sweet Lucy was the post with the most traffic. We had to say goodbye to our 16 and a half-year old kitty, Lucy. She was a big part of the blog and always willing to wear costumes and hats for photos. She clearly touched many lives and everyone gave their condolences. The blogosphere is like a family and very supportive especially during times like that.

6. What is one blog that you read religiously – other than your own – and what makes you such a devoted reader? (Please include a link.)

I read well over 100 blogs/ day and they are all unique in their own way which makes me keep coming back to them. Here is the link to my list of favorites :   ( they are not in order of preference)

7. What resources do you rely on to enhance your technical, writing, photography, social media, or other skills that improve your blog? I read the blog Mostly Blogging for tips. I would love to improve my technical skills on WordPress, but haven’t found a place to do that .

8. What is the best piece of advice you can offer other bloggers?

If you want people to care about your blog, you need to care about others’ blogs too. I know many people have full time jobs in addition to blogging, but you should at least try to write a comment once a week on all the blogs you read or people won’t know you are reading their blogs.

9. What is your vision for your blog in 2016? Do you have specific goals?

I want to make money blogging so I can donate it to my weekly ROAR. I have 2 children’s picture books written based on our cats that I would love to get published as well which would be sold through the blog. My biggest goal is to figure out how to get my blog posts to the people that signed up for it in their email.

10. You have the attention of the pet blogging community – is there one blogging challenge you’d like help with, or one aspect of your blog that you’d like input on?

I would love to know how to get my posts to people’s emails: I paid for Mailpoet and they tell me my server is blocked and I need to pay ( in addition to them) for another service like mailchimp. I don’t want to have to pay twice and I am afraid to lose all the information when I try to move the email addresses to the other account.

Selfie Sunday

Hi everyone ! It is Selfie Sunday again already. I got mail from my Purrince on Friday.

011He sent me a beautiful card with a pretty bouquet on it. It was a thank you to me and Grammie for the Christmas gifts we sent. He is a well-mannered, romantic kitty boy. I am a very lucky purrincess.

I got to see Grammie on Friday too. I love her so very much.

This Friday is Stinky’s appointment with the eye doctor. Mom is very worried about her because she wasn’t very hungry on Saturday so please say a prayer for Stinky.

Mom promised Toby that Penny would do a selfie for him today so here it is:

Phoebe’s Thursday Report

Happy Thursday everyone! I decided to upgrade my Christmas stocking this year.

001My small last year’s one is next to it, but you can barely see it. I figure I have been mostly good this year and I do a lot of work around here so I deserve a big stocking.

I helped Sammy with his Cat Scout service project, sending cards to people in rehab centers and a hospice. 002 003Sammy did do some of the work too.

Stinky went to the vet Wednesday. She can see that the retina in her bad eye is flat, but she can’t tell us why. She gave Mom the number for a kitty eye specialist about an hour away so Mom is going to call today. She is hoping to get in for Monday or she may have to wait until after Christmas. Mom was actually a little relieved because she would rather have a problem in the eye than in the brain. Thank you all for your purrs and prayers. We will keep you posted.

I haven’t seen my Grammie since Monday. I love her so very much, I hope she visits today.

Mom wrote another article on The Daily Mewz There are lots of interesting articles on that site.

We snail mailed and emailed our Christmas card and tried to get to everyone. If we missed you, we are very sorry. Please take this:

Mom heard about a little girl that was burned on 75 % of her body in a fire, the girl lost her father and 3 siblings in the fire too. All she wants for Christmas is cards, the address is on this link:

Guest Post Friday with Maggie

Happy Friday everyone! Today we are lucky to have a guest post by Cat Scout Maggie.

Howdy, everyone, and Best Wishes of the Season!  Today I thought I’d share a Holiday book-giving list with you, either for gifting yourself or cat-loving friends.  These are all classics, and readily available on Amazon or through other outlets. Felix and I recommend them all paws up!

The Cat Who Came for Christmas, originally published in 1987 by Cleveland Amory, was later included in a trilogy by the same author.  This is the story of his beloved Polar Bear, found on Christmas Eve and adopted reluctantly by the author, due to his being badly scratched by the frightened kitty.  Needless to say, the cat soon won over his rescuer and became famous in New York City.  Amory was a well-known writer and humorist, and founded the Fund for the Animals.         CatWhoCame

Dewey, published in 2008 by Vicki Myron, is the story of a cat who was dropped down a library book return shoot on a very cold night in the Winter of 1988 in Spencer IA.    He immediately ingratiated himself with the Library staff and visitors, and became the “mascot” of the library.  He lived out his life guarding the Library until succumbing to a tumor in 2006. This is a heartwarming tale of friendship and community.  deweycover

Homer’s Odyssey, published by Gwen Cooper in 2010, is the story of a blind kitten rescued in Miami FL by the author, and then accepted by her other two cats.  Homer moved with his human to New York City and saved her from an intruder and withstood the trauma and separation brought on in the aftermath of 9-11. Although blind, Homer could jump to the top of bookcases and cupboards, and he could catch flies.  This is a story of unconditional love and the lengths a human will go to to protect her pet companions.   Homer

Trim, Being the True Story of a Brave Seafaring Cat, was a love lament dedicated to this fabulous cat by his human, the famous Australian navigator, Matthew Flinders.  The memoir was written in 1804 and has been republished many times, most recently by Nauticalia in the UK.  Together, Trim and his master circumnavigated the globe in the very late 18th century, and circumnavigated Australia as well.  On their return voyage to England, their ship was captured by the French and the two were imprisoned.  Trim met a foul end at the hands of a local native.  A rare first-hand account of a seafaring cat!

TrimBailey Boat Cat: Adventures of a Feline Afloat, published in 2014 by Louise Kennedy, is a beautifully photographed journal of life at sea from a feline perspective.  This very amusing book combines nautical wisdom and lore, the joy of sailing, trouble-shooting and navigating, and  the challenges of being a cat aboard a big boat on the open sea.  Bailey is an astute problem solver and observer of his environment and his social world.  Fun for landlubbers and salty dogs!  BBC

Thank you for those excellent recommendation Maggie.

Thank you to everyone for your comments, purrs and prayers for Stinky. I have decided to hold off on the MRI for now. She will go to her own vet next week which is what I should have done to begin with. I tested her twice and she blinks so I think she can see out of that eye. And she is acting completely normal so I hope that is a good sign. Please keep praying.

See you tomorrow for hopping. And make sure you comment to enter our Christmas giveaway. 040One of Cleveland Amory’s books is included in the giveaway.

Phoebe Gives A Stinky Update

Hi everyone! I am sad today because my sister Stinky is sick. Well, she isn’t acting sick which is good, but her right eye pupil is always dilated. Mom took her to the vet yesterday and the vet thinks she is blind in that eye now, but when she looked with her ottoscope ( or whatever it is called), she thought everything looked fine. That means that there is probably something wrong in her brain and the only way to find out is with an MRI. The vet told her to go to a neurologist, but those are few and far between so Mom needs to do some research today. Her niece ( the one that manages the vet clinic we go to) told her they may be able to do an x-ray instead. Mom should have gone there first, but she was being cheap frugal so she went to the vet clinic with reduced pricing.

002She helped decorate the tree like she does every year

We will keep you updated. Thank you all for your care and concern. All purrs and prayers are greatly appreciated.

I did promise a giveaway.040This was the sneak preview. A mat, a Santa hat and 2 books. 007I am also adding in this 4 pack of candy canes ( catnip). Just comment today through Saturday ( once a day for more chances).

My sweet purrince is having a commentathon to celebrate his one year gotcha day. For every comment he gets, his Mum will donate 75 cents to those poor kitties Mom wrote about yesterday. Click here to visit him. And special thanks to the reader that donated to both ROARS yesterday.

I sure hope my Grammie visits soon, I haven’t seen her since Monday. She did go to the vet with Mom and Stinky though. I love her so very much.

Wednesday’s ROARS

Happy Wednesday everyone! Thank you all for your care and concern about Stinky. She is going to the vet this afternoon. I will update on Facebook as soon as I know anything and I will post an update here Thursday.

Last week’s flash sale went so well that I decided to do it again to help 2 different causes. Please don’t feel obligated to buy something, I just thought someone might want these items and help cats at the same time.

First off, Phoebe’s Purrince’s Mum told us about a gofundme page to help rescue 40 cats that were abandoned a month ago by a home owner. Their story will break your heart, I am glad they are getting help now. Here is the link

And the other is for Marg Holiday Badge Margs Animals [Large]

I have a Troll bead  “kitten”, I couldn’t get a good photo, but you can see it on the Troll bead site  It sells for $31 and I am selling this for $15, free shipping in the USA. If you buy it, I will have you pay the $15 to the gofundme to help the 40 cats.

And for $10 ( free US shipping) 006 You get a catnip mat, 2 catnip Christmas ornaments, A book of Catmas Carols and a Cat Owner’s blank book to keep your cat’s information. Whoever buys this can pay with paypal for Marg’s Animals.

Phoebe will be starting her Christmas giveaway tomorrow. Please say a prayer and ppurr for Stinky.

Tortie Tuesday

Happy Tuesday everyone! Penny wants to say hello to her love, Toby.

I am a little worried about Stinky. I noticed that one of her pupils is bigger than the other. My hubby thinks she just got hit in the eye when wrestling with Phoebe.

016This is the best photo I could get. She closes her eyes for the flash so I turned it off. It is her right eye. If it doesn’t improve in a couple of days then we will be heading to the vet. She is acting fine other than that though. Has anyone else ever had a cat with this problem?

Chewy Review

Happy Monday everyone! This month we chose Pet Naturals of Vermont Calming Cat Chews from Chewy. My cats are all pretty lazy so they probably didn’t need to be calmed, but I should save some for trips to the vet, especially for Spooky and Millie. Joanie is my one hyper cat, but she didn’t behave any differently despite having 3 treats ( one per day is recommended, but more can be given as needed). I didn’t give her 3 treats, I gave her one and she liked it so much that she swiped 2 more from the others.

004 005

007 008

Stinky did have trouble chewing hers because they are on the big size. She ended up licking it about 20 times then swallowing it whole. Everyone loved them, except for KaTwo. I wish KaTwo would eat them because she could use a calming treat. She is not hyper, but she really has fits and attacks her tail.

Active ingredients per 1 chew: thiamine (vitamin B1) 65 mg, C3 (colostrum calming complex) 9 mg, l-theanine (Suntheanine brand) 8.5 mg, inactive ingredients: brewers yeast, calcium sulfate, canola oil, chicken liver flavor, citric acid, glycerin, maltodextrin, mixed tocopherols, propionic acid, rosemary extract, silicon dioxide, sodium alginate, soy lecithin, vegetable oil

I am not sure if the treats really calm the cats, but they must be tasty. If you want to try them, Chewy has them on sale this month for $4.02 a package ( 30 treats per package). Chewy offers free shipping on orders over $49 so why not get all your pet Christmas shopping done in one place.

*We were given the treats for free from Chewy,  but all opinions are our own.

**I apologize for the messy photos, the package arrived while I was decorating and there was no holding them back.
