Phoebe Gives A Stinky Update

Hi everyone! I am sad today because my sister Stinky is sick. Well, she isn’t acting sick which is good, but her right eye pupil is always dilated. Mom took her to the vet yesterday and the vet thinks she is blind in that eye now, but when she looked with her ottoscope ( or whatever it is called), she thought everything looked fine. That means that there is probably something wrong in her brain and the only way to find out is with an MRI. The vet told her to go to a neurologist, but those are few and far between so Mom needs to do some research today. Her niece ( the one that manages the vet clinic we go to) told her they may be able to do an x-ray instead. Mom should have gone there first, but she was being cheap frugal so she went to the vet clinic with reduced pricing.

I sure hope my Grammie visits soon, I haven’t seen her since Monday. She did go to the vet with Mom and Stinky though. I love her so very much.

  1. Oh, sorry to hear about Stinky’s eye problem. Hope it isn’t as bad as they are saying. That’s good kitty is feeling ok, though. My kitties Paolo, and Cricket send good wish purrs =^..^=

  2. Oh Darling. PLEASE ask mommy to get another opinion. I can’t believe she would suddenly get blind. She had no warning and wasn’t acting differently was she? Can either Vet office recommend a cat ophthalmologist? Mom would volunteer to help with some green papers.

    1. Thank you for your kind offer, but we will manage. I tested her twice today and she blinks and seems to follow with that eye. I think it is a little less dilated- I am praying. The vet I went to said I needed a neurologist because they eye seemed fine.XO

  4. I am so sorry about Stinky. Having been a vet tech and doing rescue (with vets) for 35+ years, I was concerned about the symptoms. Usually, these symptoms point to neurological or brain related issues. We have had a few cats who had issues like this. You are a good cat mom. I am here for you. Prayers for Stinky, and you. Hugs.

    1. Thank you, you are very kind. I actually think it looks less dilated today, I hope it is not wishful thinking on my part. I am going to take her to our regular vet next week and possibly do an x-ray if they think it could give us answers. XO

  5. Sorry you got such disappointing news about Stinky. Hopefully whatever is going on to cause her eye issue is not causing her any pain.

    One thing I really appreciate about my vet is that he’ll tell me when tests (like an expensive and involved MRI) might give an answer, but probably won’t make any difference in the treatment options. But of course if the MRI could tell you that Stinky has a treatable condition, it would be an easier decision to go ahead with it. But there’s still the issue of whether a facility is nearby and the cost doesn’t break the bank.

    It’s hard to balance trying to do everything you can, paying the bills, and giving kitty the best quality of life.

    I do hope you can get some good news about Stinky.

    1. Thank you, your purrs and prayers are appreciated. I am going to go to our vet next week and do the x-ray if they think they could see something with it. I always thought x-rays were for bones, but I know they do lungs too. XO

    1. Thank you, we will go to our own vet next week. I think it looks a little better and she is acting fine so I am hoping it was from boxing with Phoebe.

  13. If you could dangle something in front of the bad eye while covering up the good eye, you might get an answer. I have the same thing. My eye had a hemhorage and I was instantly blind, but an eye doctor could see the damage. MRI seems too far to go to me.

    1. I did try that today twice and I think she can see out of it because she blinked. I am hoping it was an injury from boxing with Phoebe. I hope your eye is OK now.

Sweetie we are going to keep positive..i tell you why..my sisters exotic cat of ten years had a lump on his leg..prognosis a sarcoma or mast cell invavsive cancer..results just came back clear of any nasty..nothing..he will be fine..so miracles can and do happen…we think your give away is lovely and Phoebe..Stinky did great with the tree..much loves Fozziemum and the whole gang!! <3 <3

  25. Hi Phoebe. What a shame the vet wasn’t able to give any answers about Stinky or even any advice it seems. I like what Raven said. It would be good to know how MRI results will make a difference as far as treatment, but of course I know you want to know what the potential issue is. We’re hoping there’s no issue of course!
