Hopping Monday

Hi everyone! We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww…Mondays, McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks and Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

My Spark is a quote from Louise Hay: “Remember, you have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” I think I will give it a try and I hope you all do too.

About a month ago, I told you about a memoir I read by Joyce Maynard titled The Best of Us. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to read another memoir of hers published 20 years ago. At Home in the World was also a great book. When the author was only 19 years old, she had a one year affair with JD Salinger. After reading this, it is clear the Salinger was an egotistical—— ( words I can’t write on my blog). This only covers a small part of her memoir, but I found the entire book interesting.

Joanie hasn’t shown her tummy in quite a while so she thought you may all want to see it.

Penny will be back with one of her tips tomorrow.

Hopping Monday

Hi everyone! We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww…Mondays, McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks and Mewsic Moves Me ( hosted by Curious as a Cathy, Xmas Dolly, JAmerican Spice and Stacy Uncorked.) Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? And it is day 14 of the  A-Z Blogging Challenge.

Joanie is modeling my N creation, a necktie. I had made a nectarine, but it was basically a small orange ball so I decided to make this instead.

My Spark for today is a quote I found on Pinterest, but it did not list the author. ” We are stars wrapped in skin-the light you are seeking has always been within. ” So lets all shine 🙂

Today’s Mewsic Moves Me is our choice for a theme so I chose songs with the word Star in the title.

  1. Bad Company : Shooting Star (1975)

2. When You Wish Upon A Star (1940)-Pinocchio movie

3. Madonna’s Lucky Star ( 1983)

I am reading a sad memoir by Joyce Maynard titled The Best of Us: A Memoir. She is a famous author who was single for many years after divorcing her first husband. She finally meets and marries her true soul mate, but their time is cut short when he is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It is very sad, but reading about the start of their relationship has reminded me of my own and how much I love my husband. Please don’t misunderstand me, I always love him, but sometimes life gets in the way and it is easy to take someone for granted. This is a great reminder to not do that.

And it is day 8 of the  A-Z Blogging Challenge.

For the letter H, I made a hedgehog, but you need to use your imagination because it didn’t come out exactly as I had hoped it would.

My spark is a quote from William Arthur Ward. “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. ” Remember to always express gratitude.

I have been reading the memoirs of Reynold Price. I started with A Whole New Life: An Illness and a Healing which was his third memoir. He was a fiction author that survived cancer of his spinal cord that left him a parapalegic. This memoir was about that ordeal, I enjoyed his writing so much that I got his other 3 memoirs out of the library. Ardent Spirits was about his time at Oxford University which was also interesting. Once I get through the other 2, I may look into his fiction. Has anyone ever read his books?

This week for Mewsic Moves Me has Easter songs for a theme.

  1. From The Passion of the Christ Film, Brad Paisley and Sara Evans-New Again.

2. Cat Stevens -Morning Has Broken (1976)-Not an Easter song, but I think it is appropriate.

3. Gene Autry- Here Comes Peter Cottontail

Sorry this was such a long post.

Monday Hops

Today is the A-Z Blogging Challenge Theme Reveal. I already blabbed about that though so you know I am crocheting an item for each day- it will be a cat toy or a cat hat. At the end of the month, I will have a giveaway with 2 winners splitting the loot like last year.

We are joining Hi everyone! We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww…Mondays, McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks and Mewsic Moves Me ( hosted by Curious as a Cathy, Xmas Dolly, JAmerican Spice and Stacy Uncorked.) I am also joining Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

My Spark today is to pay tribute to Stephen Hawking with a quote of his. ” However different life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.”

This week was your choice on the Mewsic so I decided to pick some Bryan Adams songs. When my niece got married 4 years ago, she told the dj no Bryan Adams songs even if guests requested them. I was surprised she disliked him so much, well, I like him so here are my choices-

  1. Summer of 69 ( 1984), because that is when I was born-

2. The Best Was Yet to Come ( 1983)- This was my junior prom theme song

3. Heaven (1984)- I just like the song.

My book recommendation is one I just finished reading,

Grandma Gatewood’s Walk: The Inspiring Story of the Woman Who Saved the Appalachian Trail by Ben Montgomery.

Emma Gatewood was from a family of 15 children and had 11 of her own. She had been abused by her husband for 30 years. When she was 67 she decided to walk The Appalachian Trail alone, it was 1957. She wore Keds sneakers ( and replaced them a few times along the way), she didn’t even have a tent or sleeping bag. She completed it 2 more times after that too. What an inspiration.

Have you seen Joanie’s latest guest appearance on The Codmother?

Wordless Wednesday ( with Words)

Happy Pie Pi Day!

I have a book recommendation for today. I’m Not Sorry: Poems By Cats by Rosa Silva is a fun book. She has a great sense of humor, as she proved when she wrote Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep which I also reviewed- click here.

To read some samples of the poems and enter to win a copy, you can visit her blog Cat Lady Confidential.

*Disclaimer- I was given a Kindle copy of I’m Not Sorry: Poems By Cats in exchange for a fair review. All opinions are my own.

I felt like most of these poems could have been written by my cats and I think you will feel the same. There was some bad language, which I am sure some of my cats would use too- I just want to warn you not to get this book for a child. My only complaint is that it isn’t longer. Hopefully, there will be another collection of poetry soon.

It is available for free with Kindle Unlimited and $2.99 on Kindle. Click here.

Another Hopping Monday

Hi everyone! We are joining Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? , McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks, Comedy Plus ” Awww…..Monday and Mewsic Moves Me ( hosted by Curious as a Cathy, Xmas Dolly, JAmerican Spice and Stacy Uncorked.

First, a word from Joanie.

No one wants to hire me to train gremlins so I iz studying to be a paw reader. Pawmistry: How to Read Your Cat’s Paws by Ken Ring and Paul Pomhany is good book. So far, I learned the bigger the space between your lower pad and upper pads means the more independent you are.

Thank you Joanie. I am enjoying book 3 in The Miss Cuddlywump’s Series, titled Siren Song. I love this series!

This week was a freebie week to pick your own theme on the Mewsic Moves Me so I am combining it with Sparks. I have chosen 3 songs that will hopefully brighten your day. Two are from the movie, Annie which I was obsessed with when it came out.

And the last one is Accentuate the Positive- I chose the version that was used on the tv series, Homefront.

It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

Hi everyone! Thank you to everyone who gave me some ideas for the A-Z challenge, they are greatly appreciated. I will try to find a pattern for kitty underwear-thank you Summer 🙂

We are joining McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks, Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays, Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? and Curious as a Cathy’s Mewsic Moves Me blog hops. We love to hop!

We just finished Lessons from Stanley the Cat by Jennifer Freed. Psychotherapist, Jennifer Freed writes about lessons she learned from her beloved cat, Stanley. This book was published in 2010 so you can get a cheap used copy on Amazon. My Spark is one of his lessons, “Do not let any bad comments or derision bother you. Consider negativity as passing gas.” Very wise advice.

This week’s mewsic theme is your favorite love songs so here are mine:

I have never seen a Twilight movie, but I love this song.

It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? And More.

Hi everyone! We are joining Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? ,McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks and Comedy Plus’ Awwww…Mondays blog hops. And because I love to hop (virtually), I am also joining Curious as a Cathy’s Mewsic Moves Me.

I have gotten to read a lot lately thanks to the cold weather and snow. I just finished Saving Charlotte: A Mother and the Power of Intuition by Pia de Jong. I read it over 2 days because it was so interesting and easy to read. A beautiful story of a family following their instincts instead of doing what the doctors recommended.

Unqualified by Anna Faris was a fun read. I have never seen any of her movies or her tv show, but I enjoyed her book and may start watching her tv show. I also enjoyed The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim, a book that will help you to be more mindful.

I thought Emmy looked cute dangling her foot off the couch.

For Mewsic Moves Me, the theme this week is Country. I enjoy most country music except the really sad ones. Here are some of  my favorites:

My Spark is the song above, we should all live like we are dying.

Marg’s Animals had an unexpected loss yesterday of beautiful BG.

Sparks and More

Hi everyone!  Today we are joining It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? The kiddy lit version hosted by Teacher Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers. We are also joining Comedy Plus’ Awww…..Mondays and McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks.

Joanie is posing with our book recommendation.

When I found out that our friend Cathy of Curious as a Cathy, had written a children’s book years ago, I was eager to get a copy for my great-niece. Cathy even wrote a little note for my great-niece and autographed it.  I will have to save this for her for a while because the book is for slightly older kids than a 2-year-old.  I bought the book so I am not under obligation to write a review, but I want to because I enjoyed it.

It is a cute story about 2 girls visiting their grandparents. While there, they also visit with their great-grandma and she tells them the story of a panther that chased her as a child. There is even a black cat in the book which made it extra special for me.  I think family is very important so I enjoyed that there were several generations together in the story. Cathy got the inspiration from her family and the girls portrayed in the story are her daughters.

If you are interested, you can purchase it at Amazon.

And our Spark for today is not a quote, but a link to a site with free meditations. All you need to do is register with them for free and then you can listen to several free guided meditations. Calm.com  I have not done one yet, but I hope to this week. I think everyone can benefit from meditation.

Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day

Hi everyone! We are doing a lot of hopping today plus I have to answer my cats’ questions. We are joining McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks, It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading ? and Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays.

I chose Emmy to pose with the book I am reading because she reminds me of Miss Cuddlywumps. I am reading Roby Sweet’s The Ides of October, book 2 in her series. I LOVE this series, it is definitely my favorite cat cozy mystery series. I love that Miss Cuddlywumps has a big role in solving the mysteries. She is very intelligent and looks down on her human which is how I think Emmy feels about me 🙂

My Spark for today is a quote from Anne Frank, ” We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same. ”

We are all different, but we do all want to be happy. Maybe if we all paid attention to similarities instead of differences then people would get along better.

And now for the questions:

Sammy- Why can’t I beat up Brody? Sorry Sammy, Brody is a sweet boy and it is not nice to beat up other kitties.

Joanie- Can I get another gremlin to keep Gremmie company? Sorry, one is enough. You do a good job keeping him company.

Emmy- Why do you feed me canned slop when I would prefer a hamburger, cheese or chicken?  I know you love those things, but they are not as good for you as canned “slop”.
