Penny’s Tips Volume 89

Hi everyone.  We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop .My hubby and I are thankful for all the kinds words of comfort you left for us on our loss of Jinx. And thank you to all who made cards/badges, I have added them all to Jinx’s post. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Penny had planned a special post for this week so I am going to let her take it from here. She is feeling very lonely as Jinx was her buddy.

Hi everyone. I am baking a cake. Do you know whose birthday it is today? It is Emily Dickinson’s 190th birthday. Every year , her museum in Amherst, Massachusetts ( 30 minutes from my house) has an open house for free and serves a birthday cake made with one of her recipes. This year, the tour is virtual and we can all attend, the party is 12-1PM today. To visit, click here.

They even have a color by number picture of Emily you can download. Click here.

Mom found Emily’s coconut cake recipe on Tori Avey’s website, for the recipe, click here.

Mom, Dad and Grammie all liked it, but mom says, ” it ain’t cake if it don’t have frosting. ”

I will be back next Tuesday to show you how to make a fake mistletoe because the real ones are poisonous to cats.

Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. I came up with the first two and my co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.
1. My favorite Christmas (  or Hanukkah) ______________ is _________________.
2. This holiday season I will miss __________________.
3. I would like Santa to bring _________.
4. You might find _________ under my Christmas tree this year.
Happy Hanukkah to all our Jewish friends.

  1. The cake is beautiful but my Mom says she’s like your Mom – frosting is a MUST! We will all miss Jinx but we’re happy she’s now an Angel and running free……..there are many Angels there who know her!

    Hugs, Teddy

Not participating in the fill-ins. We just don’t do Christmas and I just have no fun things to add. I’ll participate after all the Christmas fill-ins are over.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday, Ellen. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to the kitties. ♥

  9. What a lovely idea with celebrating Emily Dickinson’s birthday. The cake looks yummy but yes, it needs frosting. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

  10. Penny, it’s good to keep yourself busy even though you miss your buddy Jinx. In a few weeks I hope you are feeling more like yourself. And I think your Mom is on to something… cake without frosting is …. well, it’s cake, but it’s not as decadent.

  11. That’s a wonderful cake. Usually I bake with my friend, but this year Covid got in the way.
And Penny, I hope you still can enjoy the holidays. Jinx wants you to be happy.

  12. I am sorry you are missing Jinx, Penny. It is very hard to lose a loved one for you and your family. The cake looks good.

  13. Cake is great any time, and i know you can find a frosting for it, or come up with one.

WordPress is being a pain in the posterior again, not showing your posts in my feed. Otherwise i would have commented yesterday!

  14. The cake looks great, Penny! But I’m kind of with your Mom – the frosting is my favorite part of cake! 🙂
