Hi everyone! I have an unusual tip, more of a question actually. Mom made these book vases and she thinks they look to plain. I suggested she decorate them with pennies, but she doesn’t want to.
Any better suggestions of how to perk them up?
Millie is modeling Mom’s A-Z Challenge , C creation- coal , she makes these for naughty kitties at Christmas.
Don’t forget to comment on yesterday’s post to enter the giveaway for this catnip mat and socks ( Joanie is not included). Giveaway closes at 10 PM ( EST) April 3rd.
Penny, maybe spray paint that is the color of pennies? Wish we had some pussy willows around here!
I have seen copper spray paint π
I think painting them is a good idea too – and maybe stick some felt decorations or stickers on them.
Thank you, those are great ideas.
What a great idea for a vase. Maybe some ribbon for a pop of color.
Thank you π They do need some color.
Book vases! Very cool idea like the pumpkins were (that we have one of now!)……..maybe some spray paint in Spring colors? That crocheted coal is so very cool…your Mom has the BESTEST ideas for things to make with her talented hands.
Love, Teddy
You are so sweet. They do need some color π XO and love to you both.
Simon wishes Joanie was in the give away!! BobbieSue is loving seeing her Millie.
Millie and Joanie are sending kisses. XO
We think the flowers just need to be a little brighter so those are some good suggestions. We like that coal creation. Your Mom sure is good at making such good stuff. You all have a great day.
Thank you π We hope you had a great day too.
Those vases need some pretty cat fur added on!
I wonder where I can get that much fur? MOL! π
That is the cutest lump of coal I’ve ever seen! I agree with others that a little color on the book vases would make them look less plain. π
Thank you. I agree, they need some color.
Coal. That’s too funny. And so are you, dear Penny!
Aww..thank you π
Coal for naughty kitties! And i thought that was only for people, all kitties are good.
Some of mine are naughty π
Hmmm… Maybe glue on some sparkly things? Mom loves sparkly things, she’s a bit of a magpie that way.
Sparkly is always pretty π
I have an idea. Get an old toothbrush. Dilute some acrylic paint. Dip in the toothbrush into a little bit of paint. Use the bristles to “spritz” the paint onto the vases. It’s like a splatter effect but in miniature.
That is a great idea π
What lovely vases! When I think something I make is too plain, I like to splatter some paint on it. I tend to just fling paint on things using paint pens, but using some actual paint and a paintbrush (or a toothbrush, like Rene S suggested) would work, too. These will look lovely no matter what you do with them!
You and your coal look purrfect, Millie! We’re thinking that all of you kitties are just too good to get coal at Christmastime, though. Purrs!
Good idea, I use spray [aint on the pumpkins when I did them. Some kitties here are naughty, but I don’t mind π XO
I didn’t know kitties were naughty either. I guess perhaps some are, but I never thought so.
Have a purrfect day. My best to your mom. β₯
Some kitties here are naughty, but the coal has catnip so that is OK π
I am sorry, Ellen, I wish I could make a suggestion, but I didn’t inherit the crafts gene. . .
No worries π
Those vases are such a nice idea. I think they just need a pop of colour. Some ribbons or buttons or something like that!
Thank you π Great ideas, I have a lot of ribbon and buttons.
penny….purrhapz de next time de grate one iz ther, her could color em for yur mom !! may bee….N then mom could add just a few penniez heer N ther π de coal iz neat N will make a nice stockin stuffer π β₯β₯
That is a good idea, but she needs more practice with coloring π XO
Penny, we like Brian’s idea–just add fur! You have such pretty colors that it can’t miss!
Hmmm…I wonder if any kitties are willing to donate some fur?
No ideas from this place my mom is not very imaginative…she came make things from patterns
Hugs madi your bfff
Your mom is very creative with writing π XO
Maybe put some glitter on those vases?
Thank you, that is a good idea.
Maybe you could decoupage some bright flower petals onto the pages? I don’t know if the technique would work, but it sounds like a good way to add some color and keep with the floral theme.
That is a great idea π Thank you.
I would probably do stickers. I’m hopeless when it comes to home decor!
That would be cute π
Book vases – what a cool idea! We agree with Melissa, maybe a ribbon or pretty bow to just add some color.
Thank you, I will try that. I have a lot of pretty wired ribbons.
You guys are so photogenic! We had to ask their Female Human what coal is, when she told us that when she grew up in Germany, St. Nikolaus Dau was always fun but a little scared as she and her siblings put their shoes outside the door and waited for St.Nikolaus and his helper. Good kids got nuts and fruit and treats in their shoes and bad kids got coal! Meowza I would be in a state of nervousness all day. Iβm lovealblle but canβt say Iβm always a good kitty. I think the knitted coal is waaaay better than there real stuff!
Purrs & Head Bonks,
Alberto
Our coal has catnip in it too so we don’t mind π XO
I LOVE your Mom’s Book vases. I vote no pennies.
Purrs
Marv
Thank you. XO
Maybe you can color the paper! Or place colorful papers between each page. But I think these vases are pretty as they are, too π
Thank you. XO
Spray paint? Decoupage? Pennies might be nice, but they are heavy and may cause trouble…but Penny, you are so thoughtful to keep the dΓ©cor bright and shiny:)
Thank you π Good ideas.
I like the book vases the way they are… π The crocheted coal is very cute… great for Christmas!
Thank you. π
Maybe your mom can paint them or use colored pencils on them.
Those are great ideas π
I did not enter after I saw Joanie was not included! *wink* Seriously, though, I love your cat crafts & toys. You are amazing!
MOL! π You are amazing too. XO
We’re sorry we can’t give you any help on this, Penny. Our mom is so NOT creative. Hmmm… we can’t imagine that any of you would get coal on Christmas!
It is catnip coal worth being naughty for π
We think a bright ribbon trim at the top of the vases would look nice but still show the book print to keep them unique looking without painting them out!
We got coal from you one Christmas long ago . . . but it had catnip so it was a big hit!! xx
the critters in the cottage xo
That is a good idea.
This coal has catnip π XO
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw Penny, we think your suggestion was a great one. And, we’re also sure awnty Ellen’s had purrlenty of suggestions by now. She could always paint ’em. Big hugs
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
Thank you. XO
What a cute piece of coal for St. Nicholas Day. It seems love at first sight and your other pussy cat seems to be giving the stink eye.:)
