N is for Norton the Cat

Hi everyone! Today is N day for the A-Z Blogging Challenge. Many of you probably remember Norton the Cat, but for those of you that were probably in grade school or not even born when Norton was traveling with this human, I thought he was worth telling you about.

His owner, Peter Gethers, wrote 3 books about Norton, the Scottish Fold and their travels. The 3 books are titled: The Cat Who Went to Paris, A Cat Abroad: The Further Adventures of Norton, the Cat Who Went to Paris and his Human and The Cat Who’ll Live Forever. You can get all 3 in one 689 page book called The Norton Trilogy on Amazon.

HRvVvYn We are also joining Athena’s Caturday Art Blog Hop. Joanie is posing with our Norton collection so we added a frame and some Paris stickers.

Spooky wouldn’t eat anything today. I got him to lick tuna juice and that was it despite a new anti nausea pill ( cerenia). He also had a B-12 shot and fluids. If Phoebe doesn’t post tomorrow, you will know why. Thank you again for the purrs and prayers.

    1. Thank you for the purrs and prayers. And for the suggestion, he was on Pepcid, but is now on Cerenia. XO

  1. Joanie is especially pretty today! We are so worried abut Spooky. We do hope he eats soon. We are praying for him.

    1. Joanie says thank you Simon. XO Thank you for the prayers for Spooky. I am syringe feeding him now.

  2. Oh Spooky………I’m so sad that you feel so bad that you don’t want to eat anything……Please try to eat – it will make you feel better and give you energy. We are all very worried about you!

    Love and POTP, Sammy

  3. We’re purraying for you, Spooky. This is probably far too little, but when Toby won’t eat, I use Fancy Feast Broth Toppers to stimulate his appetite. Maybe he might eat a little bit of that.

    1. Thank you for the suggestion. I am syringe feeding baby food, but could use the broth in the syringe too. XO

    1. Thank you for the love and prayers , they are very much appreciated. And thank you for your friendship. XO

    1. I am now syringe feeding and he is keeping it down so I will continue with that. I read it takes at least a week for the injection to help build red blood cells. You should read the last Norton book, it is good, but sad.

  4. You’re always so lovely, Joanie!

We are sending all of our purrs and prayers to Spooky! I believe you mentioned a while back that you were giving Spooky pepcid. Is he still getting that? I know that if my Rosie skipped her pepcid, she wouldn’t eat. A lot of renal cats get ulcers and stomach aches from the toxins that come with the disease, and pepcid can really help with that. And have you ever tried giving Spooky baby food (meat-based baby food is safe for cats)? Of course a kitty can’t eat baby food as their entire diet, but if he’ll eat it then at least he’d be getting something in his stomach. You of course don’t have to give Spooky anything you don’t want to, I just wanted to share what worked for my Rosie in her renal years.

Again, we are sending lots and lots of purrs and prayers to Spooky. You’re in our thoughts.

    1. I always appreciate suggestions, thank you. We have switched to cerenia for anti-nausea. I am syringe feeding baby food and he seems to tolerate it. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but he is a little more alert. XO

  5. We loved Norton the Cat and read all three books. Mommy just bought it in the trilogy format and gave it as a gift. When Norton went to the Bridge, his owner placed an obituary in The New York Times. He was loved the world over.
We are purring and praying our hardest for Spooky.

    1. That was a nice gift for your Mom to give someone. I must have had my head in the sand because I didn’t know about Norton until long after his passing. Thank you for the purrs and prayers. XO

  6. I remember Norton the cat.

Spooky you need to get better and start eating. Sending you tons of prayers.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

    1. I am syringe feeding him baby food for now.Thank you for the prayers. XO

  7. I’m sorry to hear about Spooky. I know my mom gets very sad when I don’t eat, which is happening more and more with me these days too. I really like PetAg Kitten Replacement Milk (in cans, not the powder), and that seems to help. Maybe Spooky would like that? Sending you lots of purrs.

    1. I will be praying for you. It is scary when a kitty won’t eat. They can get a liver disease in a matter of days. Thank you for the suggestion. He is lactose intolerant though so I am syringe feeding meat baby food.

  8. I don’t remember Norton the cat. When was this cat popular?

Poor Spooky. It’s so hard seeing pets sick. You just feel helpless. I hope Spooky has a turnaround and starts feeling better.

    1. Thank you for your kind words about Spooky. Norton the cat lived in the 1980’s and 90’s, the books were in the 90’s. I didn’t know about them until after he had passed- many years later.

  9. Oh Spooky, we are so sorry you feel so badly. We are all praying for you !

We got our prize today – Alexander the Gray jumped right onto the catnip toys , but he only plays for awhile and then has to sleep it off, so Mom put them aside for the rest of us to have a turn. And she is going to start reading the book right away.

    Hope things get better !

    1. Thank you for the prayers for Spooky. I am glad your prize arrived and you are enjoying everything. Thanks for letting me know.

  10. I haven’t heard of the Norton books but they look great.

I hope Spooky is feeling better by now. Sending you lots of positive and healing energy for Spooky!

    1. Thank you to you both. I am syringe feeding baby food andd he has held it down ( knock on wood) . I hope that means the cerenia is working. And I read it takes at least a week for any improvement from the injection for his red blood cells so I need to keep feeding him for that to kick in. Love to both of you. XO
