KaTwo-Part 2

Happy Tuesday everyone. First off, if there were a Florence Nightingale award for cats, the award would go to my Joanie: 001.

I have been under the weather all weekend and she has stayed by my side in bed, on the couch and even in the bathroom ( that is dedication).

Today is Medical today and I am going to continue KaTwo’s story. She has a rare disease called Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome. Here is a link that describes it in greater detail: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/FHC/health_resources/HyperesthesiaSyndrome.cfm. The main issue is she attacks her tail, not just playing like some cats do, she really injures herself. She also lets out awful screech noises when she is doing this. It is a medical/behavioral issue. When I first adopted KaTwo, she came with a bottle of kitty prozac- there was no way to get it into her though.

After several trips to the vet and many tests later to rule out other illnesses, she was officially diagnosed with Hyperesthesia and given a different medicine. The medicine was in drops and I was able to get them into her, but it did nothing to change her behavior. She doesn’t like to be with other cats and she likes peace and quiet. As long as she can be alone ( with company from me) then she is fine. Well, mostly, I think about once a week she screeches and it is always on a day that I don’t get to give her enough attention. Luckily, she doesn’t need the meds now.I am sure she displayed this often at the shelter because there was so much noise from the dogs and it was a stressful situation. Look at her now: 003.

Have a nice day everyone and don’t forget to enter to comment to be entered to win the Vera Bradley pencils in our Back to School week giveaway.

  1. That darling darling girl. How badly it makes me feel as well that she has gone, is going through this. I am so sorry. It seemed as though she had improved a bit as long as she is able to get her alone time with you. Purrs for this dear one. xoxoxo

    1. She is actually very happy having a room to herself with lots of toys and a full sized bed.

  2. We’ve never heard of Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome before. We are glad that KaTwo has settled in to her home with you and is doing better, we’re so glad she has a safe, loving home with you and is out of the shelter. Have a great week everyone!

  3. I have never heard of that illness before. Thank you for sharing about it. That’s great that KaTwo is doing better and doesn’t have to be on medicine anymore. Having a loving home and family really makes a difference

    1. I am glad she doesn’t needs med too. I am not against meds, but I do think they get over prescribed in many situations.

    1. Thank you Summer, KaTwo is doing well now, better off than a lot of kitties in this world.

  4. We had never heard of this before. At least you know what to do to keep it under control. Absolutely adorable photo. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
