I have been under the weather all weekend and she has stayed by my side in bed, on the couch and even in the bathroom ( that is dedication).
Today is Medical today and I am going to continue KaTwo’s story. She has a rare disease called Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome. Here is a link that describes it in greater detail: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/FHC/health_resources/HyperesthesiaSyndrome.cfm. The main issue is she attacks her tail, not just playing like some cats do, she really injures herself. She also lets out awful screech noises when she is doing this. It is a medical/behavioral issue. When I first adopted KaTwo, she came with a bottle of kitty prozac- there was no way to get it into her though.
After several trips to the vet and many tests later to rule out other illnesses, she was officially diagnosed with Hyperesthesia and given a different medicine. The medicine was in drops and I was able to get them into her, but it did nothing to change her behavior. She doesn’t like to be with other cats and she likes peace and quiet. As long as she can be alone ( with company from me) then she is fine. Well, mostly, I think about once a week she screeches and it is always on a day that I don’t get to give her enough attention. Luckily, she doesn’t need the meds now.I am sure she displayed this often at the shelter because there was so much noise from the dogs and it was a stressful situation. Look at her now: .
