KaTwo Update

Hi everyone. KaTwo had her appointment with the surgeon. I was hoping he would say lipomas ( fatty tumors), but he is pretty sure she is in the 90% with aggressive malignancies. Her x-ray did not show that it had spread, but one lymph node is effected. The lymph node is nowhere near the tumors though, it is near her heart. The surgeon told me it could be from another cancer or something else.

The two tumors feel like they have grains of couscous in them ( that is how he described them). He said pushed together they would equal the size of a grape. Her heart is also enlarged which poses a question of how she would do with surgery. This could be from her hyperthyroid which is still high. I am going to start giving liquid meds for that instead of transdermal because apparently they don’t always work and she is impossible to pill.

I need to decide whether to have her get the surgery which would remove the entire “chain” of four on her left side. He couldn’t tell me of any great outcomes because he does about two a year and most follow up with a regular vet. From what I have read, she could have six months or a year after this surgery because it always returns. It all depends on if there is something hidden in there that has spread and how aggressive it is. I am trying to debate about quantity over quality.

My mom went with me and she thinks I should let her be. My mom is always right ; her instinct is better than mine. So I am leaning that way, but then I will always wonder what if I had done the surgery? I am also an optimist and still have hope in the 10% that these are benign.

I welcome any suggestions/input. I know some of you weighed in last week and I appreciate that. Please keep KaTwo in your prayers. Thank you.

Friendly Fill-Ins Week 126

Hi everyone! Time for the Friendly Fill-Ins. Please leave your link (at bottom of post) here or at my co-host’s Four-Legged Furballs. You can also answer in the comment section.

1. I have _______________ for  ____________.

2. _________________ make me _____________________.
3. I’m surprised that _________.

4. To make a long story short, ________

My answers:
1. I have an endless supply of love for all cats.
2. Cats make me happy.
3. I’m surprised that it was so hot and humid today. I though fall had arrived, but summer snuck back in.
4. To make a long story short, KaTwo needs prayers.*
* This is the long version-KaTwo could use some purrs and prayers. About a month ago , I took her to the vet because she was losing weight and drinking a lot of water. I though she was diabetic, but she is hyperthyroid. Her liver was inflamed because of this, I never realized that could happen. I got her an antibiotic shot just in case the inflammation was caused by infection. She quickly recovered and has been doing fine. She is tough to examine and requires Gabapentin just to get her into the carrier. That day the vet was unable to fully examine her after drawing blood. We went back for a thyroid recheck and I asked the vet to examine her this time because I could see blue around one of her nipples and felt a lump. The vet told me in 90% of cases it is malignant and the prognosis is poor.  I am praying for that 10%, she will be seeing a surgeon as soon as I can get her an appointment. The vet did say she felt 2 lumps, but they were small.I always worry about this with my females because I adopt them as adults and most have not been spayed until they were older which is a cause of cancer. Has anyone ever had a cat with this? If so, how long did they survive?

Remember Me Thursday

HI everyone! Today is a very special day, Remember Me Thursday. Now in the sixth year, it is a day to remember all those pets in shelters. Our friends at Lola The Rescued Cat and Three Chatty Cats are hosting the blog hop.

Three of my current kitties came from shelters, everyone else was given to me or just showed up.

Back in 2010, I went to adopt Sammy not knowing he had a sibling. The minute i saw her, I had to adopt her too. It still bothers me that their 3rd sibling had already been adopted. They had been together for almost 5 years at that point and it breaks my heart to see families separated ( human and fur).

My KaChoo went to the Rainbow Bridge in 2010 and I wanted another mitted tabby so I searched Petfinder and found Little Tiger in 2012. I renamed her KaTwo. I know why she was at the shelter for 2 years, because she has feline hyperesthesia. She can seem a bit scary when she is having a fit, chasing her tail, but most of the time, she is very sweet and loving.

My Angel Snowball also came from the same shelter. I saw her in 2012 and kept checking on her and was finally able to adopt her in 2013. Sadly, she had congestive heart failure and left us last year. She was from a hoarding situation and not into people, but she loved her Phoebe.

We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop I am thankful for all the kitties I just wrote about and all that I have been blessed with.

Here is my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day to go with this photo:

In this photo we see an older couple,
perhaps their bodies are no longer supple.
If you ask him what he sees, his eyes will open wide
and he will tell you that is his young bride.
If you ask her about her mate
she’ll tell you from day one she knew it was fate.
Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. Mom came up with the first two and our co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.
1. A  ________________ will ___________________.
2. The best time of the day is __________________.
3. _________ is not my strong suit.
4. It’s all fun and games until _________.
And the winner of Prancie’s Prayer is Laila! I am having a Goodread giveaway starting on the 29th, I will post a link soon.

Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone, Emmy here, I refused to open my eyes for the photo. I am punishing mom for schlepping me off to the cardiologist yesterday. It is a whole hour away! Right across the street is a butterfly conservatory and my folks wouldn’t take me. They claim no pets are allowed- I call that discrimination.

My heart is pretty much the same with a mild increase in left atrial size, but I am stable.. I will take my meds every 12 hours now instead of every 24. I don’t need to go back for another check for 9 whole months though.Mom is thankful that I am not significantly worse. She is also thankful that we have such a good cardiologist available for me.

KaTwo is mom’s reading buddy so she is thankful to have her very own library card to Amber’s library. If you love to read, you can get one too. Click here. We love Amber’s book reviews and look forward to her reviewing Prancie’s Prayer.

Here is my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day to go with this photo:

crisp fall air is here
leaves of orange and red too
sit here and enjoy
