Tortie Tuesday and Mast Cell Tumors

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today’s health topic isn’t happy, but I wanted to write about it because awareness of so many diseases can lead to treatment and full recovery.

As you know, I brought Joanie to the vet on Wednesday because of a small bump. She will have it removed for safety on Nov. 7th during a teeth cleaning. The reason I worried about it and took action was because of something that happened to Lucy ( the kitty that recommends books every Friday).

Back in 2010, I was trimming her nails and noticed a small bump between them. I figured it was a wart or something, but got it checked. It was actually a mast cell tumor and her toe had to be removed to be sure everything was caught. She recovered quickly and was stomping around like a peg legged pirate the same night. Here is some information in more detail: http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2012/03/05/common-cancer-for-pet-dogs-and-cats-mast-cell-tumors.aspx . If your cat develops any kind of growth, it is best to have it checked out by a veterinarian.

Today is also Tortie Tuesdayso here is Penny in her butterfly costume with a little help from her dad:028 030Do you like my Scream guy in the background? I haven’t had a giveaway in a while, but I will be doing a small one on   Thursday and another starting November 1st.

Those lump things really are scary. Hope all of you have a great day.

  3. Good thing you had that bump removed from Lucy and are having the bump removed for Joanie when she gets her teeth cleaned. I think people mostly figure it’s just a little thing that will go away but it doesn’t always…….better to be SAFE than SORRY! Love the butterfly costume.
