Ten Things of Thankful

Hi everyone! We are joining Athena’s Caturday Art Blog Hop and Ten Things of Thankful.

My art today is a page that I colored in the coloring book I won from Sweet Purrfections, Cooking with Cats by Jess Erskine.

I tried to color the kitty to look like Joanie, but she doesn’t think it looks like her. I like that these pictures are easier to color than most adult coloring books.

I also want to thank Basil and family for dedicating this week’s mandala to Phoebe and some other angels that left for the bridge at the same time she did.

Here are my thankfuls-

  1. The mandala above
  2. Got my hubby to go to a book sale with me on Tuesday.
  3. Going to same book sale today for half price day ( books will be 50cents-$1, even less for kid ones).
  4. Went out to dinner with hubby Monday night.
  5. My mom stayed with the cats so we could relax. Otherwise, I would have been stressed thinking if someone broke in , the cats could get out and get run over or eaten by the bobcat my hubby saw this week.
  6. I found the perfect gift for a friend at TJ Maxx.
  7. Every week when I see my great niece, her language skills have improved. She will be 2 in 2 weeks and can count, knows her colors and says so many things.
  8. Hubby and I got our flu shots, I am thankful insurance covers them.
  9. Fun lunch “party” with my mom and great-niece, it is a party every time we are together.
  10. Joanie sleeps on my side every night, she just started doing it after Phoebe passed away. I think she senses my sadness.

  1. Mom Ellen colored that picture beautifully. Mom sure hopes she can get back to coloring sometime soon. She really misses it. What a great list of thankfuls. Mom says that #10 would have been her #1. Good job, Joanie. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

  2. A book sale, especially on the last day when the books are half price, is one of my favorite things.

Tell Joanie the picture you colored looks like her as a kitten.

  3. YAY for the book sale! YAY for so much to be thankful for……and of course a BIG YAY for Joanie who knows when her Mom needs comforting……cats just sense things and that makes them EXTRA amazing. I ought to know!!

    Hugs, Teddy

  4. A book sale, what could be better. We like the picture of Joanie is a good one. That is so nice that Joanie came to sleep with you. That is always so comforting. Have a good day.

    1. The needle is so small now that it doesn’t even hurt, I wish my allergy shot were that painless.

  5. I bought a huge ‘activity book’ for kids because it was inexpensive and cute, with easier pages (obviously) than many adult coloring books. So glad you won yours. Great job with the coloring, by the way, and how sweet that Joanie has taken to sleeping by your side. We got our flu shots, too, also covered by insurance, so let’s hope the scientists predicted correctly and we all stay healthy. As for worrying about kitties, we have added insurance with an alarm system. ~grin~ Simply Safe is very reasonable compared to what we had, I’m happy to say. Now I’m excited to go see my new favorite band’s music featured in the movie “American Satan” this afternoon at the cinema. Be well!

    1. I need to look into an alarm system, I feel bad making my mom come over whenever we want to go somewhere. I hope you have a great time at the movies.

  6. I used to go to the SPCA book sale every spring. I would buy cookbooks. I found a lot of classic cookbooks and Asian ones to add to my collection. Happy to hear you have a new snuggle buddy. YAY, Joanie!
    Yes, you are truly blessed.

    1. I buy a lot of cookbooks too, especially when I am hungry. Then I copy the recipes I want and donate them. Joanie is a sweetie. XO

  7. You did a really nice job with that coloring. Isn’t it cathartic?

I love that Joane came to sleep with you. Gracie has been even MORE snuggly with us since Zoe went to the Bridge. They know, and they love us. <3

    1. It is relaxing, I wish I had more time to color. I have 4 kitty coloring books. They do know, we are blessed to have them.

  8. I always love your thankful list. Sometimes it’s easy to overlook the “small” things so it’s nice to write them down. And I adore that coloring book, don’t you?

  9. Joanie is really cute. It sounds like she’s really sensitive. I have a sweet cat named Obi (short for Obsidian), a tuxedo cat, that likes snuggling up with me at night. Lately she’s gotten into the habit of sleeping on top of me, which is nice. Cats are such great companions.

    1. Obi sounds very sweet. No kitty would sleep on me because I toss and turn too much πŸ™‚

  10. The mandala is beautiful.
Yikes, do you really live somewhere that you have to worry about someone breaking in when you’re out for dinner?! That must be very stressful. Maybe leaving some BIG dog toys in the front yard would deter would-be thieves!

  11. Lovely art and things to be thankful for.

Also, lovely and sweet of Joanie to sleep by your side to help ease your sadness.

  12. Awww. Joanie staying close to you at night. Cats know. I love to go to lunch and have a party even if it is CH and I. I love having lunch out… and dinner with the hubby. The mandala is beautiful and a sweet tribute to Phoebe. I can relate to your #7. I enjoyed your Thankfuls and your art!

  13. I just love your calico coloring inspired by Joanie. I also loved reading your thankfuls, especially your #10. What a sweet girl Joanie is! Isn’t it amazing how our furbabies know when we need them most? I’ll always remember a couple of years ago, the night I found out my grandfather had passed away. Evan, who has never been a lap cat, crawled into my lap as I sat on the couch and sat there with me for quite a while. He had never before sat in my lap, and has not done it since.

  14. Mee-you what a beeuteefull Mandella that Basil’ss Mumma made. Shee iss berry tallented an thottfull.
An yur colorin iss good Aunty Ellen….

  15. book sales! I can’t remember the last time I went to one. loved old bookstores, back in the day. for all the convenience of kindles, there’s still something about the real thing.
“Joanie sleeps on my side every night, she just started doing it after Phoebe passed away. I think she senses my sadness.” I don’t doubt it for a second, animals, or at least dogs and cats are very sensitive to feelings and emotions.

    1. I read some books on Kindle, but prefer a good old book. Thank you, I think some animals are more sensitive than others and Joanie is one of them.

  16. I love to color, and you did a beautiful job on that page! Joanie would be hard to duplicate with her soft calico colors, but I can see a resemblance! It made me happy that she is snuggling up to you at night. Our furkids definitely sense loss and changes, when Stormy passed, Sophie who had always been quiet and in the background, as the new house elder moved quietly into his role, and even took on some of his behaviors like inspecting what we have on our plates! πŸ™‚

The mandala Basil made is truly beautiful. I enjoy drawing them when I have time, it is relaxing. It was so sweet that they dedicated it as they did. We all know how hard it is to lose members of our family, even furry ones. <3

Book sales are such fun, and so is dinner out when you can relax and not worry about what is happening at home. Just like children, cats can find all sorts of ways to get into trouble when we aren't watching. πŸ™‚ Your mom is awesome, I wish she lived next to me, I would borrow her!

Your great niece sounds very smart, and I love that age because they are so eager to learn and it is exciting to watch their progress! She is going to grow up to be your shining star!

Finding the right gifts is not always easy and it feels so good when we do! I sent a couple little surprise packages out in the mail today and it made me happy.

I'm glad you got your flu shots too, they can be life savers! Have a great week ahead, Ellen. Blessings to you, your family and furkids! XOXO

    1. I hope you got your flu shot too πŸ™‚ I am blessed to have my mom willing to watch my kitties. I hope you have a great week. XO

  17. There is always much to be thankful for isn’t there? It helps to keep us sane when we feel down in the dumps, at least for me it does, to reflect on all the good things, rather than the not so good.
