The Story of Fester Cat

Happy Friday everyone! Today is book day and Lucy and I are both recommending The Story of Fester Cat by Paul Magrs. I finally got the book from the library, but I liked it so much that I am going to order my own copy.

As you know, I don’t like books that make me cry. I will let you know I cried briefly, but the book is so uplifting that one cry was worth the rest of it. Fester is 12 years old when he decides to move in with Jeremy and Paul. Prior to that, he is basically on his own because the other families that he has lived with don’t really take good care of him. The 3 of them become a family and Fester tells us how it all came to be from his days on the street to life with Paul and Jeremy.

This book really hit home with me because it reminded me of our Spooky. He lived with 2 other families on our street until last year when he decided to move in with us. Spooky doesn’t try to get out, but if he did, I would stop him. Fester is allowed to go out, but always returns to his friends. This is a wonderful story about the power of love and friendship. It shows that our true families are those we choose to be with ( even if they are furry). I think every cat lover will enjoy it.

  5. My mum doesn’t like reading books that make her cry either. That sounds like a very nice book though. I am off to look at the Daily Mews now because I haven’t been there before.

    pee ess…for some reason, we always see your complete post including photos three or four times before your header. We have to scroll through them before getting to your header and the post again. We wonder why this is happening?

    1. I don’t know why. I am going to be taking a blogging class soon and will try to figure it out-sorry about that and thanks for letting me know.

    We have that Nosey-Neighbour-Cat who is always tryin’ to move in with us although, come to think of it, he hasn’t been ’round since Christmas. I’m thinkin’ his peeps are keepin’ him at home. He has a good home. He has lovin’ peeps. Don’t know why he insists on honin’ in on mine.

  11. Oh oh OH! I ordered this book from my library on Monday, and I hope it arrives next week! I am totally tantalized now; can’t wait to read it myself. How is that for an interesting bit of timing…we are on the same wavelength, I think!

  13. I love books about cats or any animal really. I’ll be interested in hearing about Fester. Have you read Dewey? It is about a kitten who was stuffed in the book return slot at a library in Spencer, Iowa..thus Dewey was the purrfect name. After some back and forth with the city the librarians were given permission to let him live in the library. The author is Vicki Myron with Bret Witter

    1. I read Dewey, it was a good book. I usually like any book about cats as long as they don’t make me cry throughout. I realize most books like that are written in memory of a cat so as long as they led a good life, I don’t mind crying a little, but some books just break my heart.

  14. That sounds like a very very good book. We don’t like cat books that are super sad and make us cry either. Don’t ask why Mom was surprised when she read Dewey the Library Cat book she was shocked when she read when tragedy struck, she was just stunned and boo hooed all over the place. We don’t like those kind of surprises.

    1. That one didn’t get to me too much because Dewey led a good life after his initial ordeal- poor kitty. I don’t like surprises either.
