Remember Me Thursday

Hi everyone! Thank you for all the words of comfort you have left on the loss of Phoebe.I will answer all your comments soon. I am still taking a break , but will return for our regular posts on Monday. I didn’t want to miss this special day because it is so important.

Today is Remember Me Thursday, the day we remember those in shelters still needing homes. Some will die in shelters before they ever get their forever homes.

KaTwo and Snowball spent 2 years in The Secaucus New Jersey Animal Shelter before I adopted them.I wish I had more than 4 years with Snowball, but I am thankful for the time we had.

Joanie and Sammy were also in a shelter when I adopted them. I went for Sammy, not knowing he had a sister, but once I saw her, I wasn’t leaving her behind. Please spread the word to adopt from shelters.

You can help your favorite shelter to win prizes( lots of food) in 3 ways:

  1. Take a photo of your rescue pet and post it on Instagram #RememberTheRescue and #RememberMeThursday.
  2. Post the photo on Twitter too with the same hashtags as above.
  3. Upload your photo to the website. Click here.

  1. <3 I am heartened that you are in Back to the Shelter Mode, Ellen. We got Effie at 7 PM the same day Coolidge passed at 2:45 AM, and have never regretted it!
    Take care.

  2. Ellen, you are a champion for homeless cats. Your light shines so bright; you are an inspiration to all of us. I have and do work with shelters and rescues. Most of the babies that I foster pass through without word from me, because they are processed and usually have arranged adoptions by the time they leave me. But they each leave a piece of themselves in my heart. Thank you, Ellen. HUGS.
Phoebe was proud of you. xo

    1. Thank you for these kind words. You are a champion for homeless kitties too. XO

  3. Dear Ellen, I just read on Facebook the sad news. I was afraid it’d turn out that way when you said that you needed a blog break to spend time with Phoebe.

She sure was a very special cat, and I know that you loved her very much. <3 We're thinking of you and wish you all the best. Don't stress with blogging or answering on comments.

  4. So happy you posted today as it IS a most special day for all of us but certainly for you since you not only have so many rescues in your household but do so much to HELP all cats in need. I know that your heart is aching from losing Phoebe but I also know she is PROUD of you and looking down from the Bridge thinking “My Mom helps SO many with SO much!”….. Sending you special hugs today and every day.

    Love, Pam (and Teddy too)

  5. You are such a kind and compassionate person, Ellen, and this is such a kind and compassionate post for all furbabies out there awaiting their forever homes. Phoebe must certainly be so proud.

I hope you don’t mind, Ellen, that I used your sweet Angel Phoebe as inspiration for my Thoroughly Poetic Thursday challenge poem. I wanted to honor her, and I hope that is okay with you.

    Purrs and prayers to you.

    1. Thank you for the beautiful poem and drawing of Phoebe- I love them both. XO

  6. Rescue cats are the best, that’s what all of ours are, from a rescue group/shelter or taken right off the streets.

The shelter i work with is no kill. Only a very few very sickly cats have lived their whole lives at the shelter, always as an office cat with freedom to roam and doted on by everyone.

Thank you so much for spotlighting adoption from shelters/rescues, and i am holding you in my heart for your recent loss.

    1. You are so kind to volunteer at the shelter. Thank you for your kind words. XO

  7. Such a great post. It is so important to remember our shelters. Glad to see a post from you and just know this is such a hard time for you. Take care.

  8. Two of our cats, Jezebel most recent in 2003 (!), came directly off local streets, the other from the Humane Society. I found Tilly in a cage at a Wild Birds Unlimited. ~grin~ They begged me to take her because all their other customers already had too many cats and we only had Luna at the time. Now Tilly’s a very mouthy, needy old girl but we love her.

  9. I too always did the rescue babies. They need us the most. You do such wonderful things for our four legged family members. I know this is your calling.

Have a blessed day, Ellen. ♥

  12. Yesterday, I was going through my pictures in Blogger to find a few to use for today and I saw all the pictures of Phoebe I’d added to our blog when I chose her as the featured post for the Showcase. I started crying – she was truly one of a kind – and I love her dearly. Use of “phooey” and calling Brody the “suck up,” her love for her Grammie and Party Mix, her feedback of her care with wit and sarcasm … we love her and will never forget her.

    1. Thank you. I don’t even know how we will continue the blog without her. That was her real personality, feisty and sweet. She was the leader of the pack at our house. Thank you for the kind words and memories. It is comforting to know others loved her too. XO

  13. Oh awnty Ellen, you have been blest with so much luv. And you have so much luv to give. We are so grateful to have you in our lives. And, so fankful fur all da kitties you have saved and will save. We’re sendin’ big hugs and purrayers your way.

    Luv ya’

    Dezi and Raena

    1. Thank you. I have been very blessed. And I am thankful to know you and your Mom. XO and love to you all.

  14. We purr for all the kitties in shelters.
We purr more people will consider adoption.
Their lives will be forever enriched when they adopt!
    Purrs Georgia,Julie and JJ

  15. VIP—very important post. I pray that every cat will someday have a home. I was born on the street and spent hard time in 2 shelters. My heart goes out to any cat that has to spend their entire life there.

    1. I pray for all kitties to have forever homes too. I am glad you got a great home CK.XO

  16. Thank you for posting about this, Miss Ellen. It’s such an important day for all of us to put our voices together for change. P.S. We received Phoebe’s glasses yesterday. It made us happy and sad at the same time.

  17. We have never adopted a shelter animal. With the exception of the two kitties who wormed they way into Suzanne’s heart at the pet store, all of our animals showed up on our door step or came to us through friends who were seeking homes for animals rather than send them to the shelter.

Most just showed up at roll call. At one point in time, 19 cats owned us. All 19 of them watched a coral snake crawl past them. I took a hoe and killed it. THEN they ate it. So much for the idea that if you have cats you won’t have snakes. Have a blessed week.

    1. Many of ours just showed up too. Wow, you had more than we do at one time. Ick about the snake. I hope you have a blessed week too.

  18. You are an inspiration to all of us, miss Ellen. Bless your good heart <3 Pawkisses for a peaceful Weekend 🙂 <3
PS Granny has send you an e-card, but we received a message that you haven't seen it yet. We hope you will look into it <3 <3 <3

    1. Thank you. Sorry it took me so long to read the card, it was beautiful and so sweet of you. XO

  19. Thank you for posting about the importance of adopting shelter animals. We are so grateful for you, and for your advocacy. Sending purrs and prayers to you during this very sad time. We hope you’re doing okay. Much love and big hugs.
