Penny’s Tips Volume 47

Hi everyone! Did you miss me last week?

My tip today is more of a superstition. Did you know that if you give someone a gift of a purse or wallet that you are supposed to put money in it for good luck? I recommend you put a penny in because you already spent money on a gift so no need to give a larger amount.

Mom bought The Great One a unicorn purse last week when they went (pre)school clothes shopping, Mom put a penny in it and boy did The Great One get mad at her- she didn’t want a penny in her new purse, she had other things to put in it. She ended up giving the penny to her mom for doing a good workout 🙂

  1. We didn’t know about putting pennies in purses.
Mummy says you are welcome to jump into HER (furry large) purse any time, Penny (lol).

  2. My brother’s always been a bit … liberal with money. When my nephew was born, I decided to encourage him to do the opposite. I got him a piggy bank that’s actually a stuffed pig – and it oinks when you drop in a coin. Of course, I couldn’t give it to him empty. He loved that thing for YEARS.

    1. That was a cool gift. My great- niece has a huge piggy bank and it is full with coin and paper money- she has a lot of grandparents 🙂

  3. Gosh a penny is BIG MONEY (or used to be) to little ones but then times certainly have changed. She would have been impressed with a five dollar bill I bet! HAHA

  4. My Mom did the money thing for a gift of a purse. I remember clearly having a penny, maybe a dime in the Villager purse I wanted so badly. It had my monogram and boy did I think I was something… Hahaha. I wouldn’t mind a purse like that again. My Grandma did the money thing, too. Gotta kind of laugh at The Great One… she knows what she wants! You were missed Penny!

  5. Of course you put in a penny! Only a shiny pretty one though, round and small …
not the fluffy furry sweet one like you!

  6. I didn’t know about putting money in a purse or wallet. I’ve learned something new today.

    Love those laser eyes.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday, Ellen. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥

  7. Those are some super duper laser eyes Penny.
Dad told us about getting a penny in his wallets when he was a boy. I think today kids would want a bit of spendable plastic MOL

  8. Ya know what, Penny? I DO remember that you’re supposed to put money inside of a gift purse, but I’d forgotten until now. And I think a penny is purrfect, ’cause a penny saved is a penny earned. The Great One is too small to understand that now, but she will learn.

  9. I did know that. Maybe it comes from 18 years working in Retail but I always considered a purse or handbag well a personal purchase. What I mean is each person has different tastes and preferences and always suggested jewelry or clothing. That’s just my opinion. Keep the good tips coming.

  10. Mom has always abided by that superstition. Tell the Great One to save that penny, 100 of them will get her a green paper.

  11. Littles get some fun and funny ideas, don’t they. Great tip, i will remember to put a cent in if i ever give someone a purse or wallet, and i will tell them it is the start of their fortune if they save it and bunches more!

    1. I thought it was bad luck to give a knife or scissors as a gift because it means the relationship will break so maybe the penny stops that. I know I am nuts 🙂 XO

  12. Oh my goodness, this story about The Great One just made my day. I thought you were going to say she was hoping for more than a penny, but apparently a penny was too much for her purse! Penny, I bet The Great One would have been happy to find fluffy you in her purse. Especially with laser eyes as stunning as yours!

  13. Chaplin: “Hmm sounds like that old saying, ‘A penny saved is a penny spurned.'”
Charlee: “I don’t think that’s how the saying goes, but it seems appropriate this time.”
