Penny’s Tips Volume 137

Hi everyone. Thank you for all the purrs and prayers for Emmy. She had blood work done, but we are awaiting the results.

I have an easy Christmas craft for you today. Mom is going to show the Cat Scouts how to make them today so I thought I would beat her to it and show all of you how to make a Christmas tree from a magazine.

Sorry about the glowing eyes My photographer stinks.

Remove the cover then fold the first page like this
then another fold like this
then turn the page and fold this triangle up

You just do that to every page then you will have a tree like this.

You can add ribbon, paint it, use spray adhesive to put glitter on it or be lazy like mom and just add stickers.

And now for my giveaway: Mom said it can be open to everyone being that it is Christmastime and all.

The prizes are this Christmas gnome catnip mat, a red crocheted Christmas ball and a hex bug reindeer- they are fun to play with. To enter, tell me in the comments how you would decorate the magazine tree. You have until Thursday 9PM (Eastern time) to enter.

  1. OH Penny we love your glowing laser eyes and how you show us the craft it’s purrfect.
    Love your giveaway and prizes.
Daisy Mae & I hope we win
    Merry Christmas

  2. More purrs for Emmy’s blood work numbers to be in a good range! Cute tree! Hmmm, I might add a little glitter to the tree, then put a few pine twigs and maybe some small pine cones around the base. Nice pictures of Penny! XO

  3. Penny it was wonderful to hear from you again! Thank you for teaching us a new Christmas craft! P.S. – be kind to your photographer! 🙂 <3

  4. That’s a cute photo Penny of you and the tree. I would use cat print washi tape for garland and cat stickers for ornaments. Purrs for sweet Emmy,

  5. That is a great craft and I bet some of the peeps where I work would enjoy making those!

I think I would add some glittery paint, and then throw some sparkly sequins on it for even more sparkle. Then maybe some tiny baubles and a tree topper, mini sized. I have some here already.

We pray that the blood work won’t be bad….and we’ll keep our prayers going for her as well…and for you, Ellen as you care for her…you are doing a good job, and we know Emmy feels the love you have for her.

I like how you’ve decorated your blog, too! I had to look twice to make sure I was at the right place, LOL!

    1. I bet they would. Those are great ideas. Thank you for the prayers. I am still waiting for the results- they always make me wait so long. XO

  6. OMC, your mama is just TOO creative and wonderful. WE LOVE THAT TREE…now to buy a magazine! Good thing it’s not Playboy, haha. Just kidding, but this is what we would do: put our little tree on a big piece of paper or plastic or a big tray so that we can clean it up easily, then spray the tree with spray glue (or homemade spray paste, whatever that is) and have great fun throwing multi-colored glitter or sequins at it, while singing Tannenbaum.

    1. Great ideas. You could use a catalog if you have one. We still get a lot of seed catalogs. XO

  7. That is a lovely tree. Sending more good thoughts for Emmy’s blood results.

  8. WOW – first of all it’s magical what you did with the blog site for the holidays! I love the snow!!! As for the tree – I hope to be at Cat Scouts today to learn this craft BUT I think I will decorate my tree with stick on gold stars all over it and maybe a little bit of “spray snow” !!! We have our paws and fingers crossed that Emmy’s blood work will be OK…………

    Hugs, Teddy

    1. Thank you. 🙂 My friend who made the blog header added the details. I like the idea of spray snow on the tree. XO

  9. For me, I would spray on something that would make things adhere…and put a few of the tiniest glass balls I could find, and I like Teddy’s idea of gold stars, and a little snow.

  10. First of all …. EVERY craft needs some glitter …. in this case I think glitter spray paint would be easiest …. now me … I like pink so I would get mine pink glitter paint …. so maybe a pink glitter Christmas tree isn’t traditional …. but …. that’s just me LOL
    Thank you for your tip!
Razzles needs some of your special made toys!!

  11. that is too clever. My daughter made folding thingies wrote messages in them. She put them on her fingers to reveal messsages. Mom probably remembers them. I like your background and snow

  12. Hi Penny! What a cool idea with the Christmas tree! I would make a garland out of cat stickers and use spray snow to give it a wintry look. Also, add some red glitter so it will sparkle! Then set it on a Christmas doily under a light for all to see.

Prayers and purrs for sweet Emmy. 😺🙏

I love your Christmasy site! 😻

  13. Oh, those laser eyes on Penny! How cute. What a fun and easy craft. I’d add mini garland around the tree and hang miniature ornaments on it. I hope all goes well with Emmy. Sending positive thoughts your way. xo

    1. That is a good way to decorate it. Thanks for the positive thoughts for Emmy. XO

  14. What fun, I remember making one of those a while back, thanks for the reminder. We’re sending purrs and prayers for Emmy.

  15. What a wonderful craft and giveaway. Your mom rocks.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday, Ellen. Scritches to all the kitties. xo ♥

  16. This is such a fun and festive craft, Penny! I think I’d decorate it like I do my trees at home, by putting red ribbons on it, maybe using a hole punch and actually tying the ribbons on. Oh, and course there has to be a star on top, just like yours has. Now I need to find myself a magazine and make one. Purrs!

P.S. We think your laser eyes are gorgeous, Penny!

  17. I did one similar to that back in high school and i spray painted it green and glued felt multi-colored circles to it for ornaments. I’m not sure how i made the star, i forget. It’s quite a project, i like the way your mom did it.

    Lots of prayers for Emmy.

  18. Penny your mom makes the best catnip mats. We love the ones we have received as gifts and use them all the time.

  20. Java Bean: “Does grabbing the magazine tree and shaking it and then shredding it count as decorating?”
    Charlee: “No.”
Java Bean: “Hmm then I’m out of ideas.”
Chaplin: “Typical dog. Meanwhile, we Hipsters send lots of purrs for a good report on Emmy’s blood!”
Lulu: “And we dogs send tail wags!”
Java Bean: “Are you SURE shredding doesn’t count as decorating? It spreads cheer all over the house.”
Charlee: “Scraps of paper aren’t cheer, and yes, we’re sure.”
