Friendly Fill-Ins Week 90

Hi everyone! Time for the Friendly Fill-Ins.Be sure to add your link at McGuffy’s Reader, you can also answer in the comment section. Thank you to all who participate.

We are also joining Feline Friday , currently hosted by Comedy Plus and our friend Bacon’s Shopping Around the World ( this month is sandwiches).

1. The flu shot ______________________.

2. I think everyone should take ____________________ daily.

3. I (almost) always                     , because                        .

4. I (almost) never                         because
My answers:
1. The flu shot is a good thing to get, my hubby and I got ours in October.
2. I think everyone should take a turmeric supplement daily. It is a great anti-inflammatory and some research has shown it to help prevent certain cancers.
3. I (almost) always eat too much junk food, because I have NO will power.
4. I (almost) never drink alcohol because I don’t like it. I will taste one sip of the wine my hubby makes , but to me they just taste like alcohol and not the fruit they are made from.
Emmy is here with the ingredients for our sandwich.
I wanted to do something  different for Bacon’s Shopping Around the World so here is a recipe for a ‘mock” tuna sandwich. Back in 2010 when I attempted to be a vegetarian ( no fish either), I found this recipe and it tastes just like tuna salad.
Ingredients-
1 can of chickpeas  $1.00
2 T of mayonaise $2.50/jar
1 T of pickle juice ( not sure of the cost)
1 celery stalk, finely chopped ( $1.99/package)
bread ( I use bad for you white bread, $1/loaf
Recipe-
Rinse and drain chickpeas, then mash them up.
add mayo, pickle juice and celery then spread on bread of your choice
Looks just like tuna salad, doesn’t it?
Trust me, it tastes like it too.

  1. I am glad the flu shot works for you and David. My doctors do not think I should have it, because my system overreacts. We have been reading on Turmeric. Interesting! Hugs!

      1. Autoimmune issues like RA & Sarcoidosis tend to over-react, often attacking the body instead of the illness. Autoimmune deficiencies do not react as they should to fight the illnesses and infections.

    1. Okay. That’s funny. ~grin~ I tried to be vegetarian as a child because I read that Michael Jackson was. Doesn’t that just shout out my age? Anyway, my good-natured mother didn’t judge my decision, nor the fact it lasted less than half a day. Ha… Be well!

  2. “Bad for you white bread” is my favorite kind of bread. 🙂 I don’t like wheat bread at all. I have eaten it when there is no other choice, but I don’t like it. That sounds like an interesting recipe. We’ll have to give it a try.

    Have a blessed weekend. 🙂

  3. That sandwich sounds delicious! I’m sure I have chickpeas and everything but celery…. I must make this when my hubby isn’t watching to see if he can tell the difference1

BTW, if I’d answered the questions, my responses would nearly have mirrored yours. Unbelievable that all four of us got our flu shots about the same time. Not only do I take turmeric every day, I also take cinnamon, apple cider, garlic and grape seed. AND, I not only dislike the taste of alcohol, I’m allergic to hops, so I avoid beer like the plague, but I did have a sip of champaign (yuck) at 2010’s new years.

  4. WOW on the mock tuna sammmmmich! We just might have to try that one. Love your answers on the fill-ins too…..the best part of your post today was the photo of Emmy shopping (!!!).

    Hugs, Teddy

  5. That recipe sounds great, i will try it soon.

Tumeric is a good supplement for many people, i’m glad it helps you!

  6. I totally agree with your responses. I include turmeric in something every day after reading about how good it is for you. Must admit I probably drink more alcohol than you but never these days to excess. My sister comes round every Sunday and we open up a bottle of red wine – she’s a bad influence on me! Even so, there’s often enough left over for cooking with.

  7. Ellen,

We take a Turmeric every day. DH shared an article with me not long ago about a woman taking the supplement which cured her aggressive cancer. I wish I had this link to share with you. It’s supposed to be good for headaches, too. I could never be a vegan. I love meat too much! 🙂 The mock tuna salad does look like it has tuna in it. Do you like whole wheat bread? We buy Arnold’s Country Kitchen Whole Wheat bread. We really like it. White bread is good but we like whole wheat better and it’s better for ya. 😉 Thanks for hosting the Friday fun. Have a good weekend. Oh, yeah Emmy looks cute shopping.

    1. I have heard stories like that about turmeric. I like whole wheat, but the hubby doesn’t so instead of buying two kinds, I just eat the white. I like cheeseburgers a lot which is why I gave up the vegetarian thing, but I don’t eat meat every day. Emmy thanks you. XO

  8. CH would be very happy with this sandwich without the tuna!
I am going to check on the tumeric. An anti-inflammatory would be good for me and CH. I got a flu shot and I think it saved me when we were on vacation! Emmy, you are a good Mom’s helper!

  9. I got my flu shot in October too. We get flu shots every year. I also don’t like alcohol.

Emmy is the cutest shopper. I’m sure kitties don’t like when their parents make mock tuna, but I’d like to try it.

  10. emmy; you look FABulous today; next stop, the shopping mall, bank and jewelers; maybe not in that order though ~~~~~~~ hugs from dai$y =^..*=
    ♥♥

  11. That sandwich sounds great to Mom. We think we would prefer to have real tuna:) We love all fish.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by our blog so often.

Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  12. Emmy, what a helpful shopper you are! I never considered using chickpeas instead of tuna, but it’s a great idea!

  13. We get our flu shots every September. If we don’t we get the flu. Our doctor says to get the shot as soon as possible and we always listen to our doctor.

I love you and your shopping cart. That’s adorable.

Have a purrfect Feline Friday. My best to your peeps. ♥

    1. We go in October because it is only good for so long so we want it to last for peak flu season. We love you too ! XO

  14. I love adding herbs and spices to my food when I cook, and I have heard of people using turmeric, yet I’ve never tried it. I will definitely have to do so. And, like you, I don’t like the taste of alcohol. I don’t drink it, this being one of the reasons. As for the mock tuna salad, I am definitely going to have to give that a try. I keep hearing about all the ways chickpeas can be used, and this sounds like one I’d really enjoy. Yum!

    1. I hope you like the mock tuna. I take a turmeric supplement, but I am sure the spice is good in food too 🙂

  15. The Hubby adds tumeric to several dishes, but I couldn’t tell you which one’s because I sit at the table, and he puts a plate/bowl in front of me and I eat! I love to eat, and eat, and eat. Winter is especially tough, because sometimes there is nothing else to do!

  16. Fantastic fill-ins guys and very sensible to get a flu shot, we’re going to insist that the P.A. gets one this year!

That sammich filling looks mightily tasty, thanks fur sharing and I’ll be sending the P.A. to get the ingredients later!

    Big hugs

    Basil & Co xox

    1. Thank you. I hope you like the recipe-if you use vegan mayo, it will be good for your daughter too 🙂

  17. That is amazing. I cannot imagine chickpeas taste like tuna. Weird. Mom has read lots about tumeric but never tried it. How do you think it helps you, Ellen? Just had another session with Misty May going after Astrid. I just wish Astrid would beat the cr@p out of her and put an end to this! Have a great weekend. Hugs, Janet XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

    1. Turmeric does help me, I used to get back pain once in a while and now I never do. I highly recommend it 🙂 Sammy terrorizes Prancie and Brody every day.

  18. Tumeric does all that and more? I must look into it. Sounds fascinating.

Now, your veggy sandwich does look like tuna salad and it’s quite interesting. Thanks Ellen.

    Jean

  19. Whoa! Fake tuna? Our Mom will definitely give this recipe a go (ever since eating part of a bad can of tuna last year and, well, she sure did go. A LOT!).
Great fill-ins today! Mom also likes your turmeric suggestion and just saw on the news this morning, turmeric is good for memory, too. She’s adding it to her shopping list!

  20. We love that picture of Emmy with the shopping cart.
I got my last flu shot 12 years ago – when I got the flu pretty bad for a few days afterward. And up until this year, I never got it again. I heard this season, it’s only been 10% effective – the strain we had wasn’t covered by the vaccine. I might reconsider next season.

    1. Emmy thanks you 🙂 SOrry you got sick from getting the flu shot, maybe you had a strain that wasn’t covered.

  21. OMC You can buy bread fur a dollar? MeOW Altho’ nopawdy here eats tuna. And, we’ve never seen chickpeas, but mommy says ifin they make you know what stink like regular ones, we won’t ever see ’em. MOL Big hugs

    Luv ya’

    Dezi and Raena

  22. I’ve never had a flu shot (don’t want one either). – I rarely ever have the flu (knock on wood). – Cute kitty. Not sure about the mock tuna, I’ve had mock egg salad made with tofu and it wasn’t too bad.

  23. Good fill in responses. The mom hasn’t gotten a flu shot. She says she may regret it. Hard to believe chick peas could taste like tuna, but we believe you.

  24. Can you believe TW is drooling over that recipe. She never thought of using mashed chickpeas like that. She always things hummus. She bought a bottle of tumeric, not the supplement, but doesn’t know what to do with it. MOL!

  25. Thank you for Friendly Fill-In’s, Ellen, it’s great fun! 🙂 Flu shots can be lifesavers, especially for elders and people with medical issues. I am glad you both got yours! Turmeric is a supplement I haven’t heard about before. I will have to check that out!

My will power is about the same as yours. I don’t keep a lot of junk food in the house, but I love sweets and especially chocolate. So does Papa Bear. We are our own worst enemies.

I drink very little alcohol anymore. I do enjoy cold beer, or wine, or Wild Turkey American Honey, but if I drink even one drink it usually makes me very achy the next day, and who needs that?!

Josie Two Shoes ~ Friendly Fill-Ins

    Have a blessed weekend! XO

    1. Thank you. I am glad you are joining in the fill-ins now. Turmeric is good for so many things. I hope you have a blessed weekend too!

  26. Love your answers Ellen and it’s reminded me that I must get some more turmeric to take, as I know it’s good for me and keep forgetting. I’m with you on the answer to #3 as well – I have no will power.
That recipe sound really interesting and I’m definitely going to try it.
    Have a really lovely week.

    1. I hope you like the recipe as much as I do. Turmeric is wonderful. I hope you have a nice week too.

    1. I hope you will like this recipe. I was able to read your fill-ins, the other day. 🙂

  27. 1. The flu shot: Wow! So many differing opinions on the flu shot.I have not taken one in may years…because among other reasons, it sends me into a horrible outbreak of Mono…which stays dormant unless triggered by such things as vaccines. I too have one of these crazy systems that do not follow the norm, MOL! And I have not had flu for many years, way over 30!
    2. I think everyone should take vitamins and supplements daily, because most of the food available in supermarkets has lost most of them in storage and transport. Its best to eat fresh local, but even in winter that is a challenge. I have also used Turmeric for many years. Started it for a joint problem…but yes it sure does have lots of other uses and is a great thing. In its powder form you can use it where the recipe calls for curry.

    3. I (almost) always shun junk foods, because I see the unfortunate result on the scale the next day…sigh…but my will power is weak sometimes nonthe less…and some make my skin break out, too. .
    4. I (almost) never drink wine because then after a few moments I get dizzy and feel woozy. One glass does that. Hard liquor hardly ever passes my lips for the same reason, though I do like wine with special meals, but I just have to hold it at one. I don’t care for the taste of beer at all, though my sons try hard to find one that I might like…they do like the artisan beers that are locally brewed.

    1. Thank you for your answers, I enjoyed them. I am glad you take turmeric too. Do you have to wear a mask near patients? I know around here, healthcare workers that don’t get a flu shot have to wear a mask when working with patients. You have more willpower than I do. I always eat junk food.
