Friendly Fill-Ins Week 60 and Shopping

Hi everyone! Time for The Friendly Fill-Ins. Thank you to all who participate. Be sure to add your link at McGuffy’s Reader, you cal also answer in the comment section.

1. My next ___________________ will be ________________________________.

2. Fireworks__________________________.

3. Freedom                               .

4. This week, I am thankful                                         .
My answers:
1. My next washing machine will be a top loader. I have had a front loader for about 12 years and I don’t think it cleans a well because there is no agitator.
2. Fireworks should be outlawed everywhere. I know I sound like a party pooper, but they are dangerous and scare animals. I never hear anyone complain about them ruining the environment, but they can’t be good.
3. Freedom is taken for granted by so many. We should all be thankful to those that gave their lives so we could be free.
4. This week, I am thankful that whatever it was that was making several of my cats sick seems to be finally going away. Some had this stomach issue more than others, but Brody was the only one with no symptoms.

We also want to join Bacon’s Shopping Around the World, this month is anything you cooked recently that you went bonkers over.I make a banana bread almost every week that my hubby and I both enjoy ( my Mom likes it too).
Last time we sent Sammy and Joanie for groceries which didn’t work out. It doesn’t look like Millie did any better- not the kind of eggs I wanted, oh well.
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread with Pecans
Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 t baking soda, 1t baking powder, 1/2/ cup chocolate chips, 1/2 cup chopped pecans, 1/2 cup butter, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 eggs, 2 mashed very ripe bananas, 1t vanilla.
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350degrees F, Grease a loaf pan ( I use PAM Olive Oil)
2.Whisk first 3 ingredients together then add in pecans and chocolate chips-set bowl aside.
3. Beat butter slowly adding sugar then eggs
4. Beat in bananas and vanilla
5. Beat in bowl from step 2
6. Pour into loaf pan and cook for 1 hour and 5 minutes.
I know I am supposed to put prices, but I am too lazy- sorry.

  1. Fireworks are actually outlawed where we live… but that doesn’t stop some people from setting them off! They go over to a city where they are legal and buy them and bring them back. Fortunately, them being illegal does make for less of them, plus we live in a fire danger area, so it’s not as noisy here as some other parts of the country.

  2. That sounds like a really yummy banana bread.

    1. My next project will be to pour some concrete around my bird feeder pole to stabilize it…it fell over the other day in a strong wind gust.
    2. Fireworks annoy me when they are not in the place where they belong…such as in a ‘show’. Our neighbour buys large amounts of them and lets them off for nights on end. Drives the dog-guy nuts. Pipo doesn’t seem to mind too much….So…we always hope for rain unless we are going to a show ourselves, MOL!
    3. Freedom is a precious thing to be guarded and never taken for granted. .
    4. This week, I am thankful that I have these days off, and have some vacation time to get some R & R from my work. And also that Canada, my homeland will be 150 years old on July first. Happy Canada Day! .

    1. Thank you for these great answers. We have concrete holding our pole in too. We have a lot of neighbors that set them off too and it is very annoying and scares the cats. Poor MJF, have you ever tried a thunder shirt on him? I hear they are good to calm dogs during loud noises. I agree with you on freedom. Happy Canada Day ! Enjoy your days off.XO

      1. MJF is almost deaf now so he didn’t even hear the ones in our neighborhood this evening…after the rain stopped…Boom. Sheesh. MJF did not hide from it, he went out and barked at them to go away, like he was angry. He used to do that for thunder too, MOL!
        And hot air balloons, OMC.
They did not fly here today cause it was too unstable in the atmosphere. And other things at the airfield’s celebrations (The annual balloon festival and air show.), were cancelled too, and no baseball game either. Sheesh.

        1. That is cute that MJF used to bark at the fireworks and thunder. There are benefits to being deaf, Phoebe is now too and no longer is afraid when it rains. XO

  3. Aww…Millie you did a great job on that shopping…so cute 🙂 I think I come by to eat some of those banana breads with you, they sound… heavenly. You are right, it looks like there’s something in the air with the tummies..it all spread to here *points at her tummy* Healing Pawkisses for a Happy Day 🙂 <3

    1. We would love to have you over for some banana bread 🙂 XO and pawkisses too!

  4. Glad to hear everyone’s tummy is better there!! We wish fireworks were banned too – they are dangerous and humans and animals get hurt every year because of them – not to mention they are NOISY and keep Mom and Dad from going to bed when they want to! HAHAHAHA Love the recipe for the banana/choc chip bread…..Mom’s gonna make that!

    Love, Teddy

    1. I am glad your Mom is going to make the bread. I can’t stand the noise of fireworks either. Xo and love to you Teddy

  5. Never thought to add chocolate chips to banana bread! That’s one i will have to try.

Top loader washers are better, i believe, and i use all kinds when i am working at people’s homes (many people ask me to wash the sheets while i work and then remake the beds).

Hope everyone is over the tummy trouble and have a beautiful weekend!

    1. I hope you try the banana bread. Thank you, I am glad they are better too. Have a great weekend!

  6. Ellen,

I’ve always owed a top load washing machine. I’ve never wanted a front load machine, mostly because of the configuration (bending over too long hurts my back) and concerns it might leak. I didn’t think about the “no agitator” design not cleaning thoroughly, though. I noticed while looking at machines recently that some top load machines do not have agitators. It really makes for a spacious drum and it should be easier to get large things in the machine. I wonder how the top load, no agitator machines work, do you know? Thanks for hosting and have a safe, fun weekend!

    1. Mine has never leaked, but it is a pain to bend over. I don’t know about top loaders without agitators. I need an agitator because my hubby gets dirtier than a little boy when he gardens. Have a great weekend too!

  7. We had a couple of the same answers this week. I so hate fireworks. I find nothing good about the ones set off in residential areas. I just find them too loud and I can’t squeeze under the bed like my kitties do. Organized ones like at Macys in NYC can be pretty, but honestly, I’m just not into it. I don’t even watch on TV.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. I wish I could get under the bed too 🙂 I don’t watch them on tv either, but my hubby loves to watch them.I hope you have a nice weekend too!

  8. Fantastic answers, as always! I always used a top-loading washing machine until I moved to my new house, where the previous owner left behind a giant front-loading one that I now use. I’m honestly not sure which one I prefer, though I think I am leaning toward the top-loading. It’s sad that people have to be so careless with fireworks, and I get nervous each year that some of the daredevils in my neighborhood are going to set something on fire. I agree that freedom is something for which to be thankful. And, I am thankful that your kitties are feeling better! It is so tough when they have a sickness going around. And Brody must have a tough immune system! Purrs!

    1. Fireworks that are not done by professionals are very scary. Thank you, I am glad they are feeling better too, it was a tough few days.

  9. We have energy efficient front loaders and I love them. I don’t notice any difference in the cleanliness of our clothes. I know they don’t use very much water. You could be onto something.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches to all the babies. ☺

    1. When my hubby works outside, he gets dirtier than a kid so I need a heavy duty machine.:) Have a great weekend too!

  10. Living in the extremely dry and fire-prone west, you’d think fireworks would be banned outright, but no. Our city does ban some, but the illegal ones are abundant a short drive away, brought back, and the police and fire can’t keep up. Don’t even start us.

We think Millie made a great choice of eggs!

    1. Same here with fireworks, but luckily we are not fire-prone. Millie thanks you 🙂

  11. My next book to read will be about a cat and it will be a book you suggested as soon as I can find the right Monday… I need to write Monday’s book suggestions down!
    Fireworks should be banned.
Freedom… so thankful for freedom. And thankful for the people that have fought for it, left their families for long lengths of time, and those who tragically lost their lives so that we can live the way we do.
This week I am thankful for all the rain we have had.

You do not sound like a party pooper to me about fireworks. Sorry to hear some of the cats were sick and happy to hear that they are feeling better! Millie with the shopping cart and the “wrong” eggs cracks me up.. I cracked myself up… Okay I am done! CH loves banana bread, and so do I… we will be giving this a try and I bet we love it!

    1. I am glad you agree about the fireworks. I am thankful for freedom too, it amazes me how many don’t have it right now. Glad we cracked you up- good pun 🙂 I hope you enjoy the bread, we sure do. If you let me know what the book was about, I will be able to tell you the name of it.
Have a nice weekend! And 4th!

      1. I think it might be as easy as the Norton the Cat books but I found Lawyer For a Cat by Lee Robinson when I was browsing your book recommendations tag!

  12. I’ve only ever had a top loading washing machine, and sometimes I think I should get a front one–they are supposed to be more energy efficient. I’ll keep what you’ve said in mind about yours when I do need to get a new one.

No one seems to follow the law about no fireworks around here–even with fire risk being so high. I enjoy seeing professional show displays–and we will get to see one this coming Tuesday. I understand the concern for animals though. I know a lot of people who have to sedate their dogs around this time of year. And it’s also not easy for veterans suffering from PTSD.

I am glad your cats are feeling better! It can be so hard when they are sick and you have no idea what’s wrong with them.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. I would stick with a top loader. No one follows the rules around here either. Have a nice weekend and 4th!

  13. We almost bought a front loading washer because it was hard to find a top loader that fits our space constraints. Some of the reviews talked about leaks. My husband has a bad back, which would have made it difficult for him. I agree about fireworks but people still let them off even when illegal. I love to make and eat banana bread. This recipe sounds good! Millie is so cute shopping! Freedom is very precious, bought by a dear and heavy price. I’m glad you’re kitties are feeling better. Annie is having tummy trouble herself. It happens every so often and I can’t figure out why.

    1. Be glad you went with a top loader 🙂 I hope Annie feels better soon too. XO

  14. Oh Millie..I’d take any eggs your brought home, you adorable shopper! I’d loved to have seen Joanie’s and Sammy’s selections.

  15. We hate fireworks and wish they were outlawed too. The big ones aren’t legal here but that doesn’t stop people from getting them somehow. We’re hoping with no kids in the cul-de-sac this year that we’ll finally have a somewhat quiet holiday. Of course Isabella doesn’t notice any fireworks at all. She sleeps through everything!

Our mommy loves banana bread but hasn’t had it in years! She should make some so we can try it!

    1. I hope your Mom makes you some bread, just don’t eat the chocolate part. I hope you have a quiet 4th.

  16. Fireworks are too war-like in my book, and the noise and danger aren’t worth it. Just because we shot them off in the past, doesn’t mean we have to continue that tradition.

    1. Thank you 🙂 I need to get them their own because I bought this one for my great niece and I don’t think she will let me borrow it 🙂

  17. I only have a toploader, by choice, for the reason you mention. Let me tell you, as a trucker’s wife…I need a good washer! I should do a post on laundry. Yikes.

You are so very right about fireworks and the environment. They do a lot of damage to foliage that animals nest in and eat, water that we all user, and they are a serious fire hazard where they hit!

I agree with you about freedom. We do think so much alike. You are the little sister that I wish I had. HUGS.

I am glad your kids are better. You are such a good Mom. Chloe Jo is at the vet with an emergency. Prayers, please.

    HUGS.

    1. I just emailed you about Chloe Jo, I hope she is OK.
We sure do think alike. I wish you were my sister too, but I am lucky I get to be your friend. XO

  18. We HATE fireworks here. Some @#$% sets off fireworks in our courtyard for 8 hours or more every 4th of July. Last year, Bear was a nervous wreck and couldn’t sleep until I gave up at 1am and turned on the stereo loud enough to drown the mess out. Millie is so handsome … the two eye-colored mancat of the year!
ps – we’re glad everycats’ feeling better.

    1. Poor Bear. Can you call the police to have them stop, that is ridiculous to do them in a courtyard and so dangerous. Millie thanks you. And I am glad everyone feels better too, it was a rough week. XO

  19. I don’y like fireworks either or maybe it is the idiots in the residential areas who buy them and set them off I dislike. When done professionally they are enjoyable.
    Hugs madi and mom

    1. Exactly, they are illegal here, but people go to the next state and buy them. XO

  20. Fun, food, & fireworks! Happy 4th! But, really I wonder how many who are celebrating really understand why. America is blessed with so many freedoms, yet most are taken for granted that is the way it will always be. Seems more are taken away every time you turn around. …I hate that fireworks are so noisy and dangerous, not to mention how scary for our pets and all creatures it must be. Wishing you a good weekend. 🙂

    1. I agree that many take their freedom for granted, it is sad. I hope you have a nice 4th !:)

  21. guyz….we agreez on de fire werkz lezz they iz done bye a pro….a few yeerz bak a coyote was runnin theu de naybor hood him waz that kinda scared ….we felt soooooper bad for him 🙁

hope ya get ta see grammie over de week oh end…..hope everee ones feelin 100000000000000 purrcent better bye two nite at say,,,8:23 ♥♥♥ heerz sum st francis blessings …just coz ♥♥♥

    1. Thank you for the blessings of St. Francis. We hope you have a nice weekend! XO

  22. Cute kitty going shopping. I was the appliance repair dude for our Western Auto Store and we were told that the front loaders are gentler on the clothes because there was no agitator and that it did a more thorough job of cleaning clothes. Your experience may be different.

    1. Thank you. I can understand being gentler, but I don’t think it is thorough.

  23. We have no choice cos our washer/dryer has to be stacked in a little closet. We could pay a bundle to use the machines on the first floor.
    1. My next condo will be in a better complex that isn’t falling apart.
    2. Fireworks seem to fascinate TW cause she never saw any until we moved here. As long as they’re in NYC, they don’t bother me.
    3. Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose. Freedom is eroding.
    4. This week, I am thankful I am not a human cos soon cats will have better health insurance than humans. I think we already may.

    1. Thank you for these great answers. I hope you do get to move to a better condo. I think you are right about health care CK. Have a nice weekend! XO

  24. You aren’t lazy, Ellen, just busy. 🙂 I bet that banana bread is great. I haven’t made any in a very long time. It looks like Millie has my favorite eggs in her basket.

I’ve had both kinds of washers. I loved my Maytag Neptune washer and dryer, but they died soon after we moved here. We pretty much lost all of our appliances in the first year here. It was a front loader, no agitator, and did a wonderful job of cleaning and not tearing up the clothes. The next one was a different brand and had an agitator and it tore up the clothes. That one didn’t last long at all. Now, we have a front loader, no agitator again. So far, so good on this one. We got it back in October and haven’t had any problems with it. Good luck with your next one.

I think that fireworks can make beautiful displays, but I don’t like all of the noise either, or the potential danger. They can spark fires that can get out of control, which we’ve had around here before. Some of the cities around here have outlawed fireworks within their limits. I think they are allowed here in our town unless there is a burn ban on and I don’t think there is right now. While out tonight, we saw a fireworks stand just down the highway from our house.

    Have a blessed weekend!

    1. Thank you, I am lazy though-sometimes. We are lucky that fireworks are illegal in MAss. or there would be even more around. Many go to NH though and buy them because it isn’t that far away and they are legal there. I hope you had a blessed weekend too. XO

  25. The banana bread sounds delicious. I’ve only made banana bread once, and it was good.
I’m glad to hear your kitties are feeling better.
