Friendly Fill-Ins Week 155

Hi everyone! Before we get started, we want to give our condolences to Ann of Zoolatry who lost her beautiful cat, Maggy. To visit her, click here.

Time for the Friendly Fill-Ins. Please leave your link (at bottom of post) here or at my co-host’s Four-Legged Furballs. You can also answer in the comment section. Thank you to all who participate. Don’t forget to add your link to the hop so everyone can visit you.

1. 13 years ago, I __________________.

2. By this time next year, I hope to ________________________.
3. One word that describes me is _________.
4. If my life were a book or movie, it would be in the _________ genre.
My answers:
1. 13 years ago, I was still working as a tutor for the high school and my niece was still living with us ( she did until 2011).  I knew nothing about cat blogs back then, I sure missed out on a lot.
2. By this time next year, I hope to still have all my loved ones ( 2-legged and 4-legged). I know this is not likely being that KaTwo has mammary cancer and Millie is shrinking away despite his big appetite and his thyroid meds.
3. One word that describes me is quirky I asked my mom what she thought and she said “weird”. I asked my hubby and he answered, compassionate. I like his answer.
4. If my life were a book or movie, it would be in the comedy genre.

We are also joining Create With Joy’s Friendship Friday and Feline Friday currently hosted by Comedy Plus. We are also joining FiveSibes Flashback Friday.
For our flashbacks, I have some photos of Angel Phoebe on Cinco de Mayo. It was her favorite holiday. As many of you know, she had a cup on her pole and used to collect tips. On Cinco de Mayo her Grammie and her Dad each gave her $5.
And now to tell you about the logs with red spots that I showed you yesterday. My hubby and I are attempting to grow mushrooms, I purchased plugs that have the spores in them. You need to cute logs and let them sit for 2 weeks, then drill 20 holes in each log. You hammer the plugs into the holes and use cheese wax ( or beeswax) to coat them so no other organisms get in. You also have to coat the ends of the logs. In 6 months we should have Hen of the woods mushrooms. This is new to us, we have only grown the button mushroom kits indoors.
Be sure to come by tomorrow for our Star Wars giveaway for May the 4th.

  1. I am very glad that you learned about cat blogging and that we learned about you. 🙂

    I hope and pray that all of your loved ones are still with you, too. We will continue to pray for KaTwo and Millie. I am sorry that they are sick. {{{Hugs}}}

Your mom’s “weird” response made me smile. Back when I was in high school, my nickname was “The Weird Chic”. 🙂 Weird is good; it means we’re unique. I believe your husband is absolutely right with his description of “compassionate”. You are a very compassionate, sweet-spirited person.

Angel Phoebe was such a beautiful kitty. Thanks for sharing these photos of her.

That is very cool about the mushrooms. I hope that you have a bumper crop. What an interesting way to grow them!

    Have a blessed weekend.

    1. Thank you. I pray all your loved ones are still with you too. I agree that weird is good- more fun. I miss my Phoebe, she was so pretty and a lot of fun. I hope you have a blessed weekend too. XO

  2. That is a sweet flashback of Angel Phoebe. I continue to send good thoughts for KaTwo and Millie.
I would never in a million years have guessed the logs were for growing mushrooms. I hope you get a good crop.

  3. Your comment about being quirky made me smile. When my ex-husband’s family met me – they told him I was an odd duck. Hopefully endearingly, at least!

ps – I love Emmy’s book. Every time I see it, I think of Penelope Cat and Pepe Le Pew!

    1. Thank you. I am glad you like the book 🙂 And being quirky and an odd duck is better than being “normal”- more fun 🙂

  4. Oh I think your husband’s description of you is RIGHT ON TARGET! Very few people would take on all the work of keeping so many kitties healthy and happy and loved. I think the mushroom logs are fabulous – I remember many years ago finding out about that kind of project but never had the proper “place” to grow them as I as living in apartments at the time. WHAT FUN – I hope it works! Love seeing Phoebe’s photos again…..pretty girl…….and you know we keep Millie and KaTwo in our prayers all the time.

    Hugs, Pam (and Teddy too)

    1. Thank you. You are very sweet. I appreciate the prayers for KaTwo and Millie. XO

    1. Sorry, I forgot to add it. It is there now. I hope you have a blessed weekend too. XO

  5. I love quirky and a sense of funny! We missed our mushroom hunting for morels this year in Missouri. CH missed his morels so much he went to the store and bought mushrooms to fry up! Hope you have some mushrooms pop up!
Phoebe ♥ Always thinking positive thoughts for KaTwo and Millie, too.
Fill-ins provoked a lot of thought this week…
    1. Thirteen year ago, I was miserable.
    2. By this time next year, I hope to still be happy and healthy and I wish that for my friends and family.
    3. One word that describes me is contemplative.
    4. If my life were a book or a move, it would be in the picture book genre.

    1. Thank you. I have never had morels, I need to try them. Thank you for these great fill-in answers. I am sorry you were miserable 13 years ago though. I hope your #2 comes true. I like picture books 🙂 great answer. have a nice weekend! XO

  6. Great answers for the fill-ins. That is very interesting about the mushroom logs. Hope they turn out well. Phoebe, always good to see you. Have a marvelous day.

  7. I, too, am glad you learned about blogging.
I am VERY thankful for YOU!
    I am also QUIRKY .. 🙂
    Your answers made me smile.
PS My Hallie cat is still hanging in there also ..
she is shrinking but still eating

    1. Thank you. I am thankful for you too. Quirky people are the most fun 🙂
I am glad Hallie is still hanging in there. XO

  8. Meowser Ms. Ellen. I was very pleased to see my dear furiend, Ms. Phoebe. I liked your answers, but think you had a major advantage on #1…. that was the most difficult for me to answer. In the future, please remember that some of us are a bit younger… OR put the question in cat years.
Have a great day & wonderful weekend,
    Purrseidon

    1. Good point about question #1 -sorry about that. Have a nice weekend! XO

  9. Great answers! I didn’t know you were a tutor and now I do. 13 years ago TW was still working at her day job too.
Why would you want to grow mushrooms? You can just buy mulch cos all the mulch we used to buy came with a bunch of wild mushrooms which we couldn’t get rid off since their spores walked all over the yard. I notice some other yards around here also are a mushroom breeding ground.

    1. Thank you. I was a tutor for about 15 years. I don’t think we can eat those mushrooms 🙂 The weather has been great for growing mushrooms. XO

  10. You and I both went for comedy genres. I’m not surprised. I’m also happy you have a kitty blog too. I so enjoy my visits here. Yes compassionate works for me too. You’re husband is right.

Thank you for co-hosting the Friendly Fill-ins.

Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.

Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. ♥

    1. I enjoy your blog too. And thank you for the compliment. Have a great weekend! XO

  11. Oh, no! Another loss? And I’m sorry for the health issues. I’ve been praying for KaTwo and will add Millie to the list. Good luck with the mushrooms. That would be fun. I wonder if there are morel kits. Those are so tasty and I’m not good at hunting the expensive fungi like my maternal grandfather was. Thank you so much for the well wishes! Take care, my dear.

  12. So sad about Angel Maggy.
    Weirdly compassionate seems apt…no?!?
The Hubby bought a mushroom growing kit, but he ripped the bag open and ruined the whole thing, and he was so mad at himself that he hasn’t tried it again. I LURV mushrooms!
I hope KaTwo and Miller surprise you!

  13. I’ ll be curious to see how your mushrooms grow! Have a great week!

    1. 13 years ago, I was living in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

(It’s always a joy to see photos of Angel Phoebe)

    I’ll participate this week:

    1. 13 years ago, I was living in my hometown and both my daughters were still living at home.

    2. By this time next year, I hope to have taken (at least) a week long vacation somewhere.

    3. One word that describes me is inquisitive.

    4. If my life were a book or movie, it would be in the comedy genre.

    1. Thank you, I am glad you blog too. And thank you for these great fill-in answers. I hope you get that vacation soon. XO

  18. How interesting about the mushrooms! Your husband sounds like a sweetheart. And I pray you still have all your babies this time next year.

  19. Great fill ins! I am getting Mom to do them
    1. 13 years ago, I was reading Eric and Flynn’d blog and started to think about having Queen Penelope start writing one and the Cat From Hell was born. She first started on my art blog as a guest writing once a week.
    2. By this time next year, I hope to have my bills paid off and be only half a year from retiring
    3. One word that describes me is awesome (several of my friends have told me that in the last week)
    4. If my life were a book or movie, it would be in the life is stranger than fiction genre.
Yes! Tomorrow is Star Wars Day and Sunday is Cinco de Mayo. I don’t know if I am going to get a chance to blog as I’ve driven the Dad back to Midway. Alex did do the yard work, but Mom’s get to clean bathrooms and Kitchens.
    Love Barb

    1. Thank you for these great fill-ins. You are awesome! I wish I had started blogging way back then. Thanks for visiting. XO and love to you and the furbabies

  20. Can I have some of your mushrooms please heheh!

I liked the cute photos and the fill-ins my thoughts are with KaTwo and Millie 🙁

I think without a doubt you are very compassionate 😉

    Have a fill-intastic weekend 😉

  21. The mushroom log sounds kind of complicated and labor intensive, so we’ll just continue buying our mushrooms here. Dad was always called weird when he was growing up, and he’s fine with that these days.

    1. THese are the kind you can’t buy, you have to forage the woods for them.

  22. Isn’t your husband sweet! Gosh, it’s hard for me to remember what was going on 13 years ago, but I know at the time we had four dogs and three cats. Life was busy and fun!
By this time next year, I hope to have my act together. 🙂

  23. The Tribe of Five loved the answers and say that we all (the Human as well) would end up in the comedy shelf if our lives were a book or a movie.
    Purrs & Head Bonks,
    Tucker

  24. We’re sure purraying hard for KaTwo and Millie, miss Ellen to be here on our planet around the same time next year <3
That mushroom adventure sounds so cool and so delicious! We have to try that too 🙂 Looking good there sweet Angel Mexicana <3 Extra Pawkisses to all of you🐾😽💞
