Tummy Tuesday

Happy Tuesday everyone! Joanie has promised us another tummy shot, but first a medical update.

Spooky had his blood test for lyme disease as well as his blood pressure checked. He has a prescription for blood pressure meds now because the vet felt it was high. Apparently, 160 is average for cats and they figure it can be 180 when stressed at the vets. His was 194, I am still not convinced he has high blood pressure, but it is a low dose of medicine (Enalapril) so I will have him try it. He gets more upset than any of the other cats when he has to go to the vet so I think his bp would have been extra high from stress.

He also tested positive for lyme disease, but apparently the test can’t tell if it is active or not ( information that would have been useful prior to testing). So I basically paid $100 for nothing, the vet should have just given him the antibiotic as a precaution. He hasn’t started either medicine yet because one drawback of the Wal-Mart pharmacy is that some meds are not on site. I will still go there because of the cost, but if this was an urgent matter, I would have bought the meds directly from the vet and paid more. In Spooky’s case, he has gone this long without, I figured a couple extra days would be OK.

And now for Joanie’s tummy:005and the added bonus of a stink eye from Snowball.

  1. Mixed messages from your vet. Maggie has hbp and cardiomyopathy. Better to treat the hbp now, before heart damage. I hope Spooky feels better and responds to the rx. ❀

  2. OMC They chawged you fur a test dat did no good? Dat’s not wight, just not wight at all. Weez sowry ’bout hims blood purressure and we wuld guess it wuld be higher cuz of da stwess, but since it’s even higher than da high end, it may be a little off, so is good dat yous gunna get meds. Weez’ll be purrayin’ fur him.

    Luv ya’

    Dezi and Lexi

  3. We can understand how a trip to the v-e-t would cause higher bp so we hope that was the reason. Sending purrs!

    Joanie, your tummy is snorgable!

  4. Joanie, you are one long kitty! Don’t pay any attention to Snowball!

I hope the meds, when you get them, help Spooky.

  5. Hope when Spooky gets on his medications that they will prove to be helpful. Joanie’s belly is exquisite. She so reminds us of Lily Olivia in that position. She loves stretching out like that as well. XOCK Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  6. What a great belly!! Lots of snuggles coming your way, Joanie!!
Funny Snowball; he wanted in the picture too…we think…or he was jealous, his eyes are glowing with envy, OMC!! MOL!

When Minko was at the new vet, they made him ‘chill’ (relax in his carrier, covered with a towel…in a quiet room), for an hour or so, before they checked his BP…on account of the stress that raises it most of the time…while that inconvenienced meowmy it gave a truer reading.

    Hope those meds help:)

    1. That was a good idea of the vet to do, but I can see it would be a pain for your Mom to wait so long. I waited almost that long for our apt. and we were in a room because he pooped in his carrier so they took it out back to clean and I cleaned him. This happens every time.
Joanie thanks you for the snuggles- she loves a belly rub.

  7. Hmmm well hope the blood pressure thing isn’t serious, but doesn’t sound so bad I guess. And Joanie’s tummy shot is adorable! I catch Callie doing that ALL the time. I think it’s so cute and funny πŸ™‚

  8. Hoping Spooky is alright…….vets sometimes do things BACKWARDS don’t they! As for that tummy shot of Joanie’s – it’s EPIC!

    Hugs, Sammy

    1. Joanie says thank you, she is all proud of herself, Phoebe is a little jealous. I don’t mind if the vet did things backwards if it wasn’t so expensive.

  9. Thanks for Spooky’s update. We’re sending purrs in the hope they help. And whew! We thought we were going to miss Joanie’s belly! And a stinkeye from Snowbell too? Our day is complete!

    1. You’re welcome. I am glad you enjoyed the belly shot and the stinkeye πŸ™‚

  11. Hi there, so sorry it has taken forever from me to visit you, my assistant Lady with Purple Hair was busy with those rats. But now, she is busy with us, as Misse and I are visiting her. It is very nice to be outside home sometimes, even I was very scared and stressed at first. I’m sorry to hear about those health problems, they sound serious. Wishing you all the best, with purrs and luv.

  12. Adorable photo Joanie!!

Sounds like Spooky has what my mom’s dr. calls white coat BP…caused by being at the doctor’s office. I tell mom all the time to chill
    Hugs madi your bfff

  13. Ok, I learnt a lesson. Connie’s strategy is good – always ask how the tests can help the diagnosis.

Poor you, what a waste of money! And poor Spookey. Is there any way of measuring blood pressure at home? This would be useful. We keep our fingers crossed.

    And indeed, nice belly!!!

    1. I am definitely going to follow Connie’s strategy too. It will not only save money, but it will save extra stress for the cats. Cat bp is much harder to take than for a person. I was not in the room when they did it, but they had to shave a spot on his tail to do it. I know it take a while and they get several readings and average it.
Joanie says thank you, she is glad you like her belly. πŸ™‚

  14. Oh Joanie, that is one *amazing* tummy!!!

Isn’t it amazing that they can take a cat’s BP? I’ve only had it done once with Angel Sashi, and it was something to see. (Tara was on Enalapril for her CHF.)

    1. I didn’t stay in the room for it because they were going to do the blood and I knew he would be trouble. Joanie is glad you like her tummy- she likes to show it off.

  15. That picture of Joanie and Snowball gave us a big smile πŸ™‚ We’ll keep Spooky in our purrs. Enalapril is one of our Wriggley’s medicines.

  16. Mew mew mew Joanie yur so fluffy an sweet…..maybe Snowball iss jeluss of yur fluffiness πŸ˜‰
Wee iss sorry Lady Ellen ’bout Spooky’ss test an thee fact it mite have been a waste of green pappurrss!!! LadyMum was lookin into a Anitbody Miter Test fu mee an it iss $160. Shee spoke with Lady Sharon an it has been decided thee test iss way too xpensive an LadyMum will get mee thee FRVCP innjeckshun next month. Thee exam an innjeckshun will onlee bee $80. πŸ˜‰
Pleeze watch Spooky’ss BP ok?? 140 iss normal fur kitties but anyfing over 165 iss a problem…LadyMum says Doc Dave told her that last year.
    **paw kissess** an ~~head rubzs~~ Siddhartha Henry~~

    1. I guess Spooky’s bp is really high. he is on the meds so it should improve. Do you need to have the FVRCP injection? I only do rabies- because it is the law, but I try to avoid any vaccines if I can. Phoebe sends her paw and nose kisses to her sweet little purrince. XO

      1. Yes Spooky’s BP is not normal Ellen. Even when stressed @ Vet’s their BP should only go as high as 160.
As for the FRVCP vaccine; if Siddhartha Henry does not have it either the Panleukopenia virus or the Rhinotracheitis virus could come back in senior years & make him seriously ill & with Panleukopenia it would KILL him within 48 hours. I have done hours of research & spoken with both Maryellen (his previous owner) & Sharon (head of Feral Cat Group) who also took care of him as a kitten & has his medical history. Plus Tyerrone, the brother WAS given the FRVCP shot he was not nearly as sick as Siddhartha Henry who almost died at 6 weeks of age. I have thought greatly about what to do & this is of utmost importance.
So he will get that shot July 7th. Rabies in December. Then he does mot need Rabies for 3 years. According to some in depth articles he might need FRVCP shot yearly which I am willing to do…..
        Thank you for your concern.
Please give Phoebe ((hugs)) from me & ***paw kissess*** from her ‘littul Purrince’
        ((hugs)) to you also, Sherri-Ellen
