The A-Z Blogging Challenge Begins

Hi everyone! today is the start of The A-Z Blogging Challenge. In case you missed my theme reveal, my theme is decluttering. I am always attempting to declutter only to be stymied by my hubby so I thought this challenge would motivate me  to bug him more and hopefully motivate any of you who are in need of doing this too. I know I will never be a minimalist. I love my “stuff” and most of it has meaning as it has come from people I love. I just want a happy medium of owning only things I love and not having a lot to dust and deal with. I started this process last month, but things slowed down when I got my cold and now hubby has it.

A is for art supplies and art work. I recently went through my art/craft supplies and most are contained in the diningroom.

I have some stuff that doesn’t fit in the cubes though. The Great One and Typhoid Mary each have a bin with their art stuff and I have one filled with yarn. I don’t think I can declutter beyond this. Do any of you have your own craft room?

I also went through all the art on our walls. Everything is special to me. I have this display in my hall. My hubby needs to hang them better though because I used 3M hooks and they are crooked plus The Beasty Boys knocked some down.  My hubby has also given input and is happy with what we have on our walls.

We are joining Athena’s Caturday Art Blog Hop.  I used Lunapic’s Composition Effect for my art of Angel KaTwo with her bunny ears. The puzzle is below.

And we are also joining The Pet Photo Fails Blog hop hosted by Melissa and Mudpie. I had many fails to choose from with The Catburry Bunny Auditions. Rosie was posing perfectly, but I didn’t aim correctly.

Be sure to stop by for the rest of The Catburry Bunny Auditions tomorrow.

  1. That’s a nice art display on your wall, Ellen! I used to do all my visual art in our living area due to limited space. I worked small, partly so it could be stored at home. The materials I used are all still there. I like that I still have them. XO

  2. My Aunt had a huge room, all full of her weaving, knitting and other art projects. The loom took up most of the room.
I do not have a special area for that, though I used to keep my meager supplies in an old hamper, LOL!
Good luck on decluttering. I need to get at it, too.

  3. Well, good luck on your clean-up. Mama’s atelier has turned into a cat food storage/Amazon delivery depot/recycling plastic and paper center/gift-wrapping/kitty litter storage/PAINTING studio (finally) and oh, forgot to mention the small treadmill but it’s out of the way….
Mama loves to get rid of chipped, broken, damaged, out of use things and has a box for the Goodwill who likes to have it always. Not much wasted around here, especially the leftovers from cooking, haha. Those ALWAYS find a home.

    1. Glad she finds a home for everything. I used to have a treadmill , but gave that away because I never used it then I bought another used one and did the same thing. XO

  4. Good for you taking on the decluttering project – Mom has a closet that needs decluttering but the rest of the house has no clutter – that doesn’t count the basement which is where “old stuff” goes to die – like the old couch and chair, etc. Eventually that stuff will go though. Craft room? No – although Mom’s office (now) used to be her Painting Studio before she quit painting….I suppose the office is where Mom does my Scouts crafts though so maybe it’s also our Craft Room????? We love the Photo Fail of Rosie’s ears and hat!

    Hugs, Teddy

  5. Good luck with the decluttering! Last year Ivor built a walk in wardrobe so we gave a lot of clothes to charity. I have more that should go that I probably won’t wear again.

    1. You are so lucky that Ivor built you a walk-in. I would love that. XO

  6. I prefer to have minimalist items also. But I will say that I think my husband accumulates way more than me. My art craft collection for working is three plastic bins stuck in the clothes closet. No extra spare room for this. I try to clean up the best I can about once a year when my husband’s on a trip somewhere, LOL.

  7. I think my mom and dad consider themselves minimalists, though I believe it took mom some hard work to teach dad that he didn’t need so much stuff some years ago. Now as for the craft room question- my mom’s craft room is the dining room table. And the credenza in the back bedroom. And the coffee table. And so on and so on…

  8. I applaud you for your ongoing efforts to declutter. I, too, am thwarted by my hubby. He clutters every empty surface. When I asked him why he couldn’t put things away, he said he wanted them to be ready at hand when he needs them. Sigh!
Just keep up the good fight despite all of those pesky kitties and the man who get in your way. I’m glad you have your own craft room where you can do your own thing.

    1. Thank you. The kitties are fine, but the hubby- ugh! I don’t have a craft room, but the dining room is fine because we rarely use it to eat in. XO

  9. Ah, the great art of decluttering, we had to do that years ago. Now in our teeny tiny life we can’t clutter to begin with, so the need to declutter no longer exists! We’re starting the A-Z
Challenge, tho not at all sure we’re doing it right! Have a super weekend friends.

  10. I have clutter in small furnitures and gee gaws and doo dads. And Katie’s toys, gee WHIZ!

    1. We all have some sort of clutter. We are not allowed to declutter kitty stuff though. 🙂 I only get rid of toys that are safety issues. 🙂 XO

  11. I love your art on the wall. The ribbon in the background …. is that painted on? Very nice! I have bins for craft stuff that is right now shoved in a closet … I haven’t been doing as much as I used to.

    1. Thank you. Yes, I stenciled it about 20 years ago. 🙂 I hope you get crafty again. XO

  12. Great Auntie Ellen you are best aunt….I know TGO and TM know that too and before long baby brother will be joining the fun. My only craft is sewing or crocheting. Thankfully neither require too much extra space. I have two plastic bins with casters and one 3 drawer cabinet that came with my sewing machine. All three contain most of my stuff
    Hugs Cecilia

    1. Thank you, you are too kind. I will have to get the boy a bin for his stuff too. Sounds like you are very organized. XO

  13. One thing I’ve learned when it comes to decluttering (especially in my craft/art studio) is I tend to fill the space, no matter how much I try to get rid of things that I no longer want/use. The castaways invariably get replaced by the lastest art I’m toying with. I have so many bins of scrapbook paper that I can’t even begin to find new homes for. Sigh. Wishing you great success with your challenge.

  14. Yay for decluttering. Most of our stuff is inside closets or in containers that fit under the beds. Hubby has a lot of tools that live in 3 tool boxes. When we moved from Fl to Ga, poor hubby had to sell a lot of his tools. Since we live in an apartment, we are lucky to have an on-premise garage a few feet away, however, we keep our classic car there which takes up a lot of room.

    1. Thank you. I have nothing under the beds except a lot of dust bunnies. 🙂 XO

  15. Awww… You’re so inspiring and have the most beautiful kitties. ~hugs~ I need to clean up every room in this house. I keep leaving my stuff in new spots. ~rolls eyes~ Best wishes, my dear!

  16. The art pics on the wall are lovely!

We don’t have a craft room as we don’t do any crafts. There is spare room that has lots of stuff that needs decluttering though.

  17. I love your theme! I have an art room — it’s my sewing room and where I fix things (like reframing paintings on occasion). I decluttered my bedroom yesterday, donating everything I haven’t used/worn in a decade to charity. I’m hoping do do another room next Friday. I’ll leave the garage for last…

  18. Good start on the A to Z challenge. I wish you luck in the de-cluttering! I’m the worst at this because I like my stuff, too. But I don’t know what to do with it all. 🙂

    1. Thank you. I wish I did too, but I have plenty of room in the dining room. 🙂

  19. Rosie did her part that time, it was mama’s misfire. It happens to all of us.

I am not an artist. I can copy some crafts if i have all the pieces and direct instruction, but that’s not my talent, so no craft room here. If you have only what you need, and you use it all, you have plenty.

  20. Dropping in from the A to Z list! I always think I’m going to declutter, but then, like you, I find I love too much of it and it’s hard to get rid of! And my husband is wayyyyy worse than me. I do have a craft room and I straightened it up this week and realized how many supplies I have that I really won’t ever use. I’m also a cat mom (of Lewis, Finn, and Nora Pearl) and human mom (of Kyle and Emma Kate). Looking forward to reading more of your posts!

  21. You have reminded the mom that she really needs to get rid of a lot of her crafting stuff. She has a whole big box just filled with ribbon!

  22. Great start on the challenge, Ellen😸We keep effurrything in different places behind doors, so when it needs to get decluttered, at least we can”t see it…😹Double Pawkisses for all of you🐾😽💞 Ps we love the paintings💗

  23. Love the art on the wall♥ Good luck to you on your decluttering challenge. You have a great start. It’s very difficult to part with things that have a special place in our hearts. You are lucky to have so many things that give you joy. Family is a maker of joy and love.

  24. Love the art on your walls especially St. Francis and the tuxie on the right. We don’t have too much art hanging. Just some pics that old friends of the peeps painted. We do have tons of clutter though.

    1. Thank you. I love the St. Francis because there are no birds, only cats. XO

  25. Mee-yow yore A two Z soundss like it will bee furry innterestin Aunty Ellen!

  26. I decluttered art supplies last year. I managed to get rid of a lot because I was done with certain kinds of projects. I was really into visual art for about three years, but what it really did for me was get me back to writing. So, I was able to thank my art supplies and let them go to better homes where someone would continue making use of them. Through our local Buy Nothing group, I was able to give a lot to artistic kids and art teachers.

For someone actively doing arts and crafts, I think you have an admirably organized collection of material.
