Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! We are going to do lots of hops today. First off, we are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. I am thankful that I got to see my Grammie on Wednesday, I love her so very much. Brody is thankful too because Leia said yes to being his Valentine. If you missed her post, click here. thankfulthursdaybadge

And I am thankful for my purrince, he sent me a beautiful Valentine’s card with a lovely poem in it. I am such a lucky girl.

I am also joining Sammy’s Poetry Day, featuring the letter I.

Indoor Only
I am an indoor cat
I am happy about that.
I don’t have to worry about getting hit by a truck
that would really suck.
I won’t get stuck up in a tree
or get stung by a bee.
I wish you all would all stay in the house
even if it means not catching a mouse.

POETRYSAMBADGE

One of our blogging friends, Curious as a Cathy, let us know about a fun hop on Wandering Through the Shelves. Each week you name 3 movies that go with the theme. Mom used to watch a lot of movies, not as many lately though, but she thought this would be fun. The theme this week is genius/prodigy.Here are our choices:

  1. A Beautiful Mind (2001) : Russell Crowe as brilliant mathematician John Nash who also suffers from severe mental illness.
  2. The Theory of Everything ( 2014): Movie about the life of the famous physicist Stephen Hawking.
  3. Snowden (2016): Movie about Edward Snowden and how he revealed NSA’s illegal surveillance techniques. Not sure if he is considered a genius, but after seeing the film and knowing how well he could program computers, he is a genius in my book.

And now what you have been waiting to know- the winner of the first water activated fish is: Friends Forever! Congratulations to Allie, Ellie and Raz. I will have another giveaway soon for the other one and I am begging my Mom to order more being that they are so popular.

One more thing…the Friendly Fill-Ins for Friday. Mom came up with the 1st two and Annie of McGuffy’s Reader came up with the 2nd two.

1. My favorite kind of cookie is _______________________.
2. ___________________________ would play me in a movie about my life.

3. Love is                            .

4. For Valentine’s Day, I                                .

  1. Oh what a fabulous poem for “I” ! Indoor is safest it’s true……we can’t get in as much trouble IN as we can OUT….besides, IN is where all the treats are! Thanks for pawticipating in my poetry day. You guys always do a great job with it.

    Love, Angel Sammy

  2. What a fun post! We love your poem, Phoebe. The kitties here are indoor only as well, and we’re so glad you are, too. There are no trucks to hit you inside, that’s for sure! Now, we’re off to go work on those fill-ins. They look fun already!

  3. Ellen, Miss Phoebe is a lucky kitty to have her own prince and how thoughtful he is to send her a sweet Valentine’s Day card. I got a chuckle out of Sammy’s poem. You know some really talented cats. 😀 How cool, you decided to play along with TMP meme this week. I’d like to see “A Beautiful Mind”. I can’t remember exactly but Nash for the story is about is either from Bluefield WV or later lived there. It seems he may have taught at Bluefield State college, but I might be making that up. They do have a highway named after him. Why is this important to me? One reason is this is my home state, second DH attended college at Bluefield State, and third my folks now live just outside Bluefield. The other two flicks I’m not familiar with but I’ll check them out. Thanks for the mew-out in today’s post. I’ll see ya around tomorrow. Have a purrfect day!

    1. That is interesting that there is a highway named after Nash near you and all the connections you have to Bluefield State.

      1. Ellen, as you might remember I no longer live in WV but every time we’re in Bluefield on Nash Highway I always think of “A Beautiful Mind” and how I’d like to see it. Thankfully I found it on YouTube which I added to my watcher later list. 🙂

  4. I know some cats love to go outside, but I worry about them when they are outside too. It would be great if all the kitties would stay indoors.

Have a purrfect Thankful Thursday. My best to your peeps. ☺

  5. BOL Totally LOVED your poem, You truly are a master poet. With your beauty and your obvious wit of course you’d have a price as that’s what a princess totally deserves.
Wishing you a wonderful rest of the week and weekend.

Love, Molly and my Mom @The Fast and The Furriest

  7. Mom didn’t see movie #3. She would add, The Imitation Game and Good Will Hunting to your first two. That sounds like a fun hop, and we may have to try it. Your poem was perfect Phoebe, and a good reminder for everyone. Mom says we may have to do our fill-ins on Saturday as she has a litter review she has been putting off. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

    1. We are glad you will still do the fill-ins on Saturday and you might start doing the movies, they are fun. I loved Good Will Hunting , but I need to see the other one, that was on a lot of people’s lists today. XO

  8. Can’t thank you enough for stopping by our blog and we truly do appreciate your prayers. Molly’s appt is Feb. 13 We’re praying our Valentines gift will be the ophthalmologist saying there’s nothing seriously wrong with her eyesight.
Again thanks for stopping by our blog.

    Love, Molly and my Mom

  9. That’s so sweet of your boyfriend Purrince to send you a Valentine card! The poem is very good and true. Better to be safe than sorry.

  10. Welcome to TMPS! Good choices though I didn’t care much for The Theory of Everything which is a popular pick today. I found it rather dull considering the subject. I’ve yet to see Snowden but A Beautiful Mind was compelling with brilliant work by Russell Crowe.

I don’t have a blog so I include my picks with my comment. I did a theme within a theme for this week focusing on musical prodigies.

The Legend of 1900 (1998)-In the year 1900 Danny Boodmann, a stoker (Bill Nunn) on an American ship discovers an abandoned baby left on board. Taking him in to raise as his own he gives him a long unwieldy name eventually shortened to 1900 as the pair live their life at sea. As 1900 grows his musical genius becomes apparent and he becomes the ship’s mascot. After a tragedy befalls Danny 1900 remains on board growing to manhood (where he is played by Tim Roth) never touching dry land but continuing to hone his skill (including a fantastic sequence where he plays a waltz during a storm at sea). In time he befriends Max, a trumpeter in the ship orchestra (Taylor Pruitt Vince) and it is through his reverie we learn 1900’s story.

Poor Little Rich Girl (1936)-Starring Shirley Temple, one of Hollywood’s premier musical prodigies (in terms of dollars & cents THE musical prodigy) as the rich girl of the title. Barbara (that would be Shirl) on her way to boarding school is left to her own devices when her nanny is killed in an accident. Barbara unaware of this but not wanting to go to the school wanders the city until she becomes acquainted with and is taken in by a pair of down on their luck performers Jimmy & Jerry Dolan (Jack Oakie & Alice Faye). Thinking she’s an orphan and realizing that she’s a musical prodigy they put Barbara in their act as their daughter. Soon they hit the big time with their own radio show overseen by ad exec Margaret Allen (Gloria Stuart of Titanic fame) where they’re heard by Barbara’s widowed father who has been searching for her frantically. One of the better Temple vehicles with a first rate supporting cast, both Oakie and Alice Faye get several chances to strut their stuff, and no matter how you feel about her Shirley was a bundle of talent.

Amadeus (1984)-Multi Oscar winning story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce) and Antonio Salieri (an Oscar winning F. Murray Abraham) and how Salieri’s jealousy of Mozart’s genius lead to great tragedy for both. Amazing music, performances, set design and direction. An essential film.

    1. Thank you for your choices, I have not seen any of them but they all sound great. I used to always watch Shirley Temple movies when I was a kid but I somehow missed that one.

    1. Congratulations! It is just one of the fishes, sorry for the confusion, we are doing another giveaway soon for the other one. .

  12. Nice poetry, and i agree with the sentiment behind it. Now if only i could get SissyCat to agree!

  13. Phoebe, you are adorable sitting there with your Valentine’s card. I love your poem. I too wish all kitties were indoors.

Congrats to the winner of the fish. That new movie blog hop looks fun, but I’m not very knowledgeable about movies.

  14. Brody we are so happy to hear you have a Valentine!

Phoebe, it sounds as though you are having a great week between seeing your Grammie and receiving a special Valentine’s Day card from your Valentine! 🙂

the critters in the cottage xo

  15. Love the poem! Cats are fun and we have 4 but we also have a doggie and I love Dogs:) glad that you and your mom are doing Thursday Movie Picks. Love A Beautiful Mind and Russel Crowe did such a great job. I was not a fan of The Theory of Everything and thought Eddie Redmayne reminded me too much of a young Austin Powers. I still have to see Snowden but plan on seeing it for sure. My favourite cookie is Chocolate Chip, I would have Jean Arthur play me….hahahaaa who am I kidding, I’d probably have Joanne Whorley. Love is a wagging tail and purring. And Valentine’s Day, I think of my mom.

  16. Welcome to Thursday Movie Picks! Great to see more blogs participating around. Anyway, this is my first visit to your blog, it’s so cute af! Anyway, I’ve watched movies from your picks and apparently we have one movie in common, A Beautiful Mind! Glad you liked them, too!

    1. Thank you for visiting, I wish I had known about the movie hop years ago. I will head on over to your blog now.
