Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop

I am thankful for all these free magazines I got from the local library. Every January, they give away the previous year’s magazines. Once I look through them, I will pass them along to others.

Here is our poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day based on this photo prompt. :

This suit makes me hot and clammy,
kind of like August in Miami.
I can barely breathe when wearing the head,
putting it on in the morning is something I dread.
Right now jobs are hard to find,
I am in a bit of a financial bind.
I can’t believe I went to college for this
I guess it is better than performing a bris.

Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. Mom came up with the first two and our co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.

1. Better to be ____________ than ___________________-.

2. Don’t _______________ just because ________________.
3. You couldn’t pay me to _________.
4. _________ is my comfort food.

  1. Awww, that poem makes me feel kind of sad and sorry for that young man. I hope dogs don’t take him for a real varmint…

I like looking through magazines too, to glean recipes and health info…and sometimes there are good jokes and stories, too. I never buy magazines, I just peruse old ones, MOL!
My sister saves all of hers and gives huge piles of them to me when I go there, or when she comes here to visit…

  2. Hilarious poem even though I had similar thoughts when I saw the photo at first……poor guy does NOT look happy but it could be for a variety of reasons – it was kind of a perfect photo for using our imaginations though when writing a poem! Well done……….

    Hugs, Pam

  3. Mom will answer today.

    1. Better to be up and at ’em than not.

    2. Don’t make unkind remarks because the opportunity is there.

    3. You couldn’t pay me to learn to swim.

    4. Soup is my comfort food.

  4. Ellen,

I stagged your fill-ins. Thanks! I often feel bad for guys/gals who have to don one of these silly costumes to make a few bucks. It has to be miserable in the summer months. Great job on the poem!

  5. Way to go on the magazines. We do that too.

I love that poem. Reminds me of my son being the Chucky Cheese mouse.

I’m all ready for Friendly Fill-ins. Great questions.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday, Ellen. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥

  6. That is a perfect poem for that photo! Absolutely perfect! That’s a great idea for magazines. Much more economical than having multiple subscriptions….and allows you to try out many different kinds. Well done!

    1. Thank you 🙂 The trick is to get to the library before the good ones get taken 🙂

  7. My mother likes to give my brother stacks of old magazines, then he passes them to me! Sometimes, while at the library, I sit down and go through Nat Geo or Smithsonian. That guy is very pensive!

  8. How nice the library gives away old magazines.
The guy in the photo doesn’t look so happy, but I think it can be fun experience when he looks back later in his life 🙂

  9. That was a fun poem! Very cool about the magazines. I should check and see if our local library does stuff like that.

  10. ka two, we bee thanx ful ta see yur gorgeouz self two day N we hope ta cod
ya shredz everee one oh thoz mag a zeenz bee coz ya feel like it N ya can !! ☺☺♥♥

  11. That is a nice thing for your library to do. And they are often many great articles in them that are not time-sensitive. Happy reading.

The young man in the photo does look a bit sad – must be tough to be in that position:(

Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  12. I love magazines, but whenever I get them I never seem to have time to read them. I like that you get yours free and then pass them on. That’s the way to do it!

  13. Those costumes are difficult to wear, but it’s a living for some, i guess.

How nice that you library gives away magazines, and that you pass them on as well!

  14. Your poem and our mom’s were very much alike. Any cat mags among those? Does KaTwo have a favorite? XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

  15. That is nice that the library is able to give away their old magazines. When I worked at the high school library, I was over the library magazine archives. We had to keep them five years so we recycled ours. LOL!

  16. Your poem had all my thoughts about that suit! Fun poem. Our nephew when he was in his twenties put one of those suits on for a baseball team. He was overwhelmed by heat BUT he loved doing it. Not a paying job. Great picture.
