PetSafe Ultra ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box

Hi everyone! We have another review for you today. As most of you know, I am not a fan of covered litter boxes because they remind me of porta potties. I decided to accept PetSafe’s generous offer of the Ultra ScoopFree Self Cleaning Litter Box because it cleans after each use.

*Disclaimer notice: We were given this product in exchange for a fair review. All opinions are our own.

DSCF0768 It is a BIG box, the litter tray is 22″ by 14.5″ by 2.5″

https://15andmeowing.comDSCF0770Sammy was eager to test it, but I told him he had to wait for the litter to be added.

DSCF0769The entire bottom box is disposable cardboard with a cover on one end where all the waste gets pushed into. There is a metal rake that you set to run after the cat gets out of the box, it can be set for 5, 10 or 20 minutes.

It also has a great feature that keeps track of how often the box gets used. Polar Bear and his 2 wives really need a self-cleaning box because I don’t scoop their box every time they use it like I do for the cats in the main part of the house.

Before that I let Millie and Penny try it. They used it once and got very scared of how it came to life after 20 minutes and scooped. DSCF0771

scoopfree Polar Bear, Noel and Tallulah used it 6 times for a total of 7 counting Millie ( sorry for the blurry photo). After 7 times, the litter looked fresh:

I am very impressed with this litter box, it is quiet and clean. It is expensive, but well worth it for those that really hate to scoop. It is good for up to a month for one cat, 10-15 days for 2 cats and 7-10 days for 3 or more cats. I priced the replacement box/litter and that is about $15 which is also pricey.

I also like that it keeps track of how often it is used, very useful for detecting UTIs. This is one covered litter box that I highly recommend.

Phoebe is getting her dental day, I am sure she will tell you all about it tomorrow. And Brody is getting his stitches out.

Don’t forget to comment to enter the Easter giveaway- Phoebe will announce the winner tomorrow:DSCF0763

  1. Oh, no thanks. I saw so many bad experiences as a pet sitter, when I had my own business. My cats would literally kill me, after they went on strike. I am sure it works just fine for some, however. But, me? I know too much.
You do great reviews, though! I always enjoy them. Hugs, my friend.

    1. I guess I am lucky that polar Bear and his wives like it. They feel rich 🙂 Glad you liked the review though. Hugs to you too. XO

  2. Binga, Boodie and Sparkle had a older, hoodless model of this automatic litter box for a while. Or at least Binga and Boodie did – Sparkle never liked the way the rocky crystal litter felt on her feet. But that was okay, since she always had her own litter box anyway. Eventually my human stopped using it because she felt the rocky litter probably wasn’t Binga or Boodie’s preferred type of litter either. That was the only complaint she had – otherwise, she thought it was pretty great.

    1. They have another litter box too so if they don’t like the litter, they can use the other.

  3. I liked your review – mom would love to try one of those automatic boxes – but they are a little pricey so maybe one day. Looking forward to seeing how Brody looks after his stitches are removed and to know Phoebe had a good dental. Love and kisses to Penny, Millie and Joanie!!!! Love, Toby, BobbieSue and Simon

    1. I would never have been able to afford the litter box -especially with all my recent vet bills. Maybe they will let you review one if you contact them. Brody has to model the Easter Bunny ears tomorrow or Friday. Phoebe did well, but can’t have crunchy food or treats for at least a week, she is not happy. XO and love to all of you.

  4. Interesting litter box! If you all like it, that’s all that matters – I prefer the old fashioned box and have my Mom trained to clean it 87 times a day (hahahaha). Good luck Phoebe with the dental today AND I hope Brody’s wound is all healed up really well!

    Hugs, Sammy

    1. I am pretty well trained on the first floor, but they live on the second floor so I don’t get to scoop as often as I should. Phoebe and Brody both thank you.

  5. We use Wilco’s clumping litter which is great – all Mum needs to do is scoop out the used clumping litter and dispose of it in the kitchen bin which she changes every day. She tops up the litter if it drops below 2 and 1/2 inches and there is no need to clean the tray for about a week – Mum just scoops and runs. Any other waste is flushed in the toilet.

  6. That litter box sure does sound very handy! And it sounds like a number of your kitties were impressed with it, which is always a good sign.

We’re still purring and praying for you, Phoebe! Here’s to a quick and easy dental and recovery!

  7. Good luck with the dental Phoebe.
The litter box is intriguing. Don’t know how my kids would react to a self-cleaning box but it would sure be helpful.

    1. Phoebe thanks you. I didn’t know how my cats would be either but they seem to like it.

  8. HAH! It’s the Great American $h!! Tosser! Sorry! TW read a very funny story about someone who’s rake on the automatic box started to misfire and throw turds all over the room. I’d love watching one of those at work. Great review.

      1. I knew you weren’t knocking the review or the box . Thank you for the link, I just read it and it is funny. That was from 2002 so I think they have improved 🙂

    1. I hope this one doesn’t break down, but if it does, I can scoop more litter 🙂

  9. That does look like a cool box, but after my problems with constipation and UTIs, mom is very obsessive not just about cleaning but also about recording who is doing what, and when. That is actually easier than it sounds like, since I’m a big male and Leia is a tiny girl. We each use the facilities in our own unique ways. – Toby

    1. That is a good point, with this I won’t know if they are constipated. Have you seen the litter that changes to pink when you have a UTI?

  10. Great review! As weird as it sounds, I like scooping litterboxes…it’s a way for me to stay in touch with the ‘deposits’ that I find…or don’t, plus I make cool patterns in the freshly scooped litter, kind of like a sand garden! Um, have I ever mentioned that I was a crazy lady BEFORE we adopted cats?! That explains a lot…

    1. I understand- I joke with my hubby that it is like panning for gold 🙂

  11. We just got one of those to try out! I wonder if Lita will be too scared to use it because it’s covered. I guess we’ll find out.

I hope Phoebe’s dental goes well. Lita has hers tomorrow.

    1. I will be praying for Lita. I think you can take the cover off and it still works so if she is scared, you could try that.

  12. OH Cats if I had one of those my mom would be lazy….but they sure do look very nice and efficient.
    Hugs madi your bfff

  13. brody….total lee awesum ya getted yur stitches out….& sew long two em…

phoebe…we haz 984 pawz crossed for ewe that yur dental goes sooper well; we hope bye de time ewe reed thiz… yur home, chillaxin on de sofa & eatin sum trout soop & washin it down with toona waterz ♥♥♥♣♣♣

    1. Phoebe is mad because she can’t have treats or dry food for at least a week. Brody is pretty content.

  14. You did a very thorough review. I wouldn’t use an automatic scooping box because I think it’s important to monitor the litter box daily to keep tabs on kitty’s habits and any changes. And I can only imagine what those rakes would look like if kitty has diarrhea. That would be more cleaning! Seems like it could be useful for kitties who are extremely sensitive and prefer using a clean box every time.

    1. Thank you, I had not thought of diarrhea- ick. I also had not thought about how important it is to see what is happening in the box. I will have to inspect before I dispose.

  15. Great review ! We use a great clumping litter : no smell, quick clumping. all Mum needs to do is scoop out and put in the trash (our poos are flushed in the toilet). She’s well trained and check our litter boxes several times a day. She can check at the same time if everything is normal. Purrs

    1. Thank you. I wish I could flush, but we have a septic and with 14 cats it would fill up fast.

  16. Mom and I were looking at those the last time I went to the pet store with her. They are a little pricey but sounds like they might be worth it. Very helpful review.

    1. Spooky got to go outside again so he is a happy boy. He sends you a smooch too.

    1. Millie was scared, but Polar Bear and his wives were not. Phoebe did well, but had to have one tooth removed.

  17. We have a funny story about one of those automatic litter boxes…

Our now Angel Suki was so fascinated by that rake, she would sit there and wait for it to ‘work’, then she would stay there and watch it do its thing…this progressed so that she would come running to watch even when another of the kitties was in there (there were three of them at that time.) And then it got even better…she started to try and catch the rake…to the point that she ruined the whole thing by sitting on the rake to ‘go for a joy ride’, MOL!
Needless to say meowmy quickly went bck to the regular litter box, MOL!! What a crazy diva kitty that Suki was. Too bad there was not a video made of her, it would have won big time on ‘AFC’!!

And no we do not have one of those now either…..

    1. That sounds pretty funny, I wish you had a video of that too 🙂 It sounds like Suki was a lot of fun.

  18. That’s a great review. I don’t think Flynn would use it though. He prefers to go outdoors. When he uses the litter box indoors, he yowls to let me know it needs cleaning.
