Penny’s Tips Volume 66

Hi everyone!

Time for more tips from me. Many states are starting to open and end stay at home orders. Ours is closed until next week, but my folks will continue to stay home. And when they do go out, they will continue to wear gloves and masks.

Mom has made some masks by sewing and crocheting. If you don’t know how to do those things, there are some easy ways to make them.

Matt McConaughey has a great video on making a no-sew mask with a bandana:

You can also make one with a sock ( make sure it is a clean one):

I have one more tip for you. I would avoid going out to eat for now even if restaurants near you are open. If you want to help support them, you can get takeout and be sure to microwave it for 2 minutes just in case.  To read more about that, click here.

Stay healthy!

  1. Great tips and videos!!
I would not really want to wear a sock mask, because they do not filter particles very well due to the open structure of the knit fabric. Maybe a doubled sock, and then insert a cone coffee filter, or a hepa vacuum bag cut to size, would work too.

  2. We are closed up here, and I don’t think things like restaurants will be open except for takeout for a very long time.

  3. We are having some measures eased on Wednesday with letting some people go back to work as long as social distancing is strictly observed.
The measure I think is wrong is letting people travel as far as they want and for as long as they want to exercise. That is encouraging people to travel out on day trips.
It was originally for an hour of exercise and stay close to home.
We are in a rural area, and the Westcountry has a low population until the summer when all the visitors arrive.
We have a lower infection and death rate here, but I think it will soon rise with lifting that restriction.

  4. Thanks for all the great tips Penny! Nothing is open here yet – just curbside/takeout for foodables but Mom cooks at home – she and Dad did ONE curbside pickup and that was for Mom’s Day! Even after things are open my Mom and Dad will continue to stay safe. Love the sock mask and easy bandana mask. Simple and safe and THAT’s what everyone should concentrate on – not going back to crowded stores and restaurants but being SAFE!

    Hugs, Teddy

  5. I have to agree. We should all stay home if possible and wear masks when going out. It is a very scary time. Have a great day.

  6. Those are very good tips. Our province is very slowly reducing restrictions and we like that.

  7. Florida is pretty much open… we are not happy about that. We are still staying home and social distancing. We did walk the beach last night but hardly anybody was there. I like the ideas for the masks, especially with the sock! Hellloooooooo, Penny! It is so nice to see you. I love you in your red bandana!

  8. We move to phase 1 on Friday, lots of places will be allowed to open to 25% capacity and keep people properly distanced. You are right about continuing to mask and glove up.

Thanks for keeping the tips coming, Penny!

  9. Since I wear glasses, masks that go over my ears are irritating, so I quadruple a bandanna and tie it behind my noggin. I haven’t been out in weeks now, other than walking around our neighborhood, and I wear a mask every time. We’ve only eaten home-cooked meals since mid-March, and have ordered cat food online. Our state isn’t going to open for a little while yet, since Michigan has been hit very hard; the percentage of deaths was the 3rd highest in the nation. Let’s go slow, people!

    1. That is a good idea. I think everything should remain closed for now.

  10. You’re most crafty to make your own. I can’t make anything, but I do have a very good mask to wear while doing my weekly grocery shopping. Great videos. Thank you.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. My best to your siblings and a big hug to your smart mom. ♥

  11. Wow, I’ve never seen a mask made of socks. So clever!
Businesses are opening up here but like you, I won’t go either and If I do, I wear masks and gloves. Stay safe xo

  12. Very good tips Penny. We are slowly opening up here….hardware stores and garden centers. Retail stores are open, but only for curbside pickup. I still don’t feel safe enough to venture out too much, but when I do I always have a mask and gloves. It’s good to know a variety of ways to make masks. Take care.

  13. Oh I do love how quick and easy Bobby B makes his mask..and I always love Matthew’s signature wink
    Hugs Cecilia

  14. Had no idea you could use a sock to make a mask–that is a smart idea! We have been doing takeout from local restaurants (they need our support more than chains right now)a few times per week.

  15. Make sure the sock is clean… Heh… You look cute in your bandana, Penny. Be well!

  16. penny; theeze bee grate tipz; we R gonna hafta watch de sox moovee cuz de gurl canna sew a THING !!!!! thanx for sharin 🙂 ♥♥

  17. Good tips sweet Penny! Our peeps are staying in too except for the grocery store run, although the Dad did have to go to the Dentist yesterday and Mom had to go to the Eye Doctor today.

  18. Pawsome tips, Penny. Now we only have to find ourselves some socks…MOL😺Clean Pawkisses for a Happy Tuesday. Stay Safe Healthy and Yourselfie🙏🐾😽💞

  19. Good tips. Mom will continue to do curbside pickup and/or delivery. They opened up hair and nail salons yesterday but she’s not going anywhere yet.

  20. Awesome tips today, Penny. Our folks are being extra cautious too.

    Woos, Lightning and Timber

  21. I know of at least one person who made one from an old brassiere.

  22. Great idea! Love anything you don’t have to sew!

  23. Matt McConaughey’s video…hahaha! That one was so much fun to watch. Makes me want to make a mask now 🙂

  24. Great tips, Penny. Our mom won’t be joining the crowds either should our state lift the stay-at-home orders. Much better to be safe than sorry.

  25. Great tips, Penny! We have the 3rd lowest growth rate in the country here in VT, but the states around us are all still really bad. Things are opening up slowly here, but I wish we could close our state borders!

  26. That sock idea is so cool. Mom says she doesn’t care what opens, she isn’t going, especially to any restaurants. She and Dad have ordered a couple of times from favorite restaurants and will continue with that occasionally. Stay safe and healthy. 27. Charlee: “Those sound like prudent tips to us, Penny!”
Chaplin: “Our county is starting to open up too but our Mama and Dada are planning to sit tight for a while longer.”
Lulu: “Yeah, our Dada says he doesn’t need to invite any more trips to ICU just yet!”
