Hi everyone! I have a great tip today just in time for your holiday baking.
You can use pennies as pie weights. My mom just learned what that is….every time she makes a crust for the chocolate cream pie, it has bubbles on the bottom. I hope she tries this.
Sorry, I insist she give me my treats in advance.
You just put the pie crust in the bottom ( use your imagination, I didn’t have a crust for the photo).
Then you put parchment paper or aluminum foil over it and line it with pennies, then bake as usual. They will hold it down so it won’t bubble. I recommend washing the pennies first even though there is a layer protecting the crust.

Wow! I’d have never thought of that tip. Great idea.
Thank you 🙂
Another great tip! Thank you.
Thank you 🙂
Wow! We would neffur have thought of that.
Thank you 🙂
My human at one point (back when she was cooking) had pie weights. Pennies are way more cost effective.
Thank you 🙂
A good tip and yes, you should be rewarded first 😉

Thank you 🙂
Great tip, Penny.
Thank you 🙂
I’ve always used pie weights for my crusts and it really does the trick. I’m sure pennies do too – it’s all about the weight and not the thing that weighs it down!
Hugs, Pam
Thank you 🙂 XO
I used to have baking beans but they disappeared somewhere along the way. That is a good idea as an alternative.
Thank you 🙂 XO
That is such a creative way to use pennies! Great tip, Penny!
Thank you 🙂
Penny, thanks for that great tip. We sure will have to try that. You all have a great day.
Thank you 🙂 XO
I don’t bake pies but if I did, I would try your tip. We ordered pies for Thanksgiving from our local pie shop.
Thank you 🙂 That is a good idea too.
Mom has heard of pennyweight but didn’t know what that meant. Cool.
Thank you 🙂
That sounds much easier than buying the pie weights which i never get around to doing anyway!
Thank you 🙂
Penny, as long as YOU’RE not used as a pie weight! The finished pie is what you should get. 🙂
Good point, I would not like that 🙂
Penny that is a great tip!!
I would never have thought of that use for pennies
Hugs Cecilia
Thank you 🙂 XO
Penny, what a purrfect tip for this time of year! I’ll be baking at last 3 pies next week, so this tip will come in very handy. Purrs!
Thank you 🙂 Glad to help. XO
You are ever so smart. Yes wash the pennies first. What a brilliant idea.
Have a purrfect Happy Tuesday. My best to your mom. ♥
Thank you 🙂 Mom sends her best too.
I’m no baker, but that’s clever. And I definitely would suggest washing the pennies. Money is so filthy. I’ve heard there are traces of cocaine on just about every bill, not to mention all the germs on coins. Ugh… Be well!
Thank you 🙂 You be well too!
I make gluten-free bread for myself every week and I prefer flatbread. I roll out my dough with a Teflon rolling pin, but it always stuck to the dough, even though I coated the dough and the rolling pin with buckwheat flour. I came up with a great alternative. Instead of coating everything with flour, I used an additional sheet of parchment paper, not only under the dough, but also between the dough and my rolling pin. No sticking, no cleanup of rolling pin. The parchment paper on the cookie sheet can’t be used again because it’s subjected to 425° on a metal baking sheet. The parchment paper between the dough and the rolling pin can be reused.
That is a great idea. 🙂
Brilliant, Penny! Glad to see you got to do your tip today… 🙂 Very nice she gave you treats first, too. You are loved… ♥
Thank you 🙂 XO
Penny, did you talk to your mom about writing a Penny’s Tips book yet?
No, she has been too busy promoting Prancie’s book 🙂
What a great tip!! We agree with Eastside Cats. You should definitely write a tips book!
Thank you 🙂 I like that idea 🙂
Now there’s another great penny/Penny idea Mom did not know. You are so very helpful, Penny.

Thank you 🙂
Great idea! I bet that chocolate cream pie is yummy 🙂
Thank you 🙂 I know the cream is 🙂
Another great tip, Penny! And very smart to demand the treats in advance!
Thank you 🙂 Yes, I have to or she forgets.
That is a very cool baking tip sweet Penny!
Thank you 🙂
What an interesting tip, Penny. The mom doesn’t bake pies much, but if she did, she would try this.
Thank you 🙂 My mom uses frozen ones, but she still has to bake them 🙂
That’s a great tip, Penny! You’re such a wise Tortie!
PeeS: We can’t see any other comments on your blog and haven’t been able to in awhile. Not sure what’s going on because we know you have other comments!
Thank you 🙂 I am not sure why you can’t see the other comments, but thanks for letting me know. XO
What an interesting and clever idea! I never would have thought of that. 🙂
Thank you 🙂
I would have never thought to use pennies as pie weights.
Now you know 🙂
Another great tip, Penny! I like that you point out to wash the pennies, too. You never know where those pennies have been!
Thank you. 🙂
Hmmmmm Well Penny, that’s an innerestin’ tip fur sure. Kittens only know where those pennies have been, we’ll stick with usin’ the fork to make holes in the crust. Big hugs
Luv ya’

MOL! 🙂 XO
Oh I’d forgotten about that one. Thanks for the reminder!

Great idea! Wonder if they are enclosed in a plastic bag, if you could use them to weigh down the cabbage when you make sauerkraut, or other fermented veggies.
That is a good idea 🙂
I have enough pennies to open a pie shop!
MOL! 🙂
Wonder if Mom could make a catnip pie that way? Purrs, Snoops and Kommando Kitty
Let us know if she does 🙂
