It’s Monday What Are You Reading?

Hi everyone! This week we are joining the It’s Monday What Are You Reading? blog hop for children’s books hosted by Unleashing Readers and Teach Mentor Texts.

I recently read , Ketzel, the Cat Who Composed by Leslea Newman. It is a sweet picture book for K-grade 3, but I enjoyed it too. It is based on the true story of a cat that lived with a composer named Morris Moshe Cotel. She ran across the keyboard and he

took notes on what she played. Her piano piece became famous and even won an award. You can purchase the book at Amazon .IMWAYR 2015 logo

I decided to see if my cats could compose too. With the hubby’s help, we tried 4 of the girls and they jumped right down, but Millie and Spooky were cooperative. What do you think of their music?

  1. Haha! Good job!

We’re a bit weird about music over here. Mom normally doesn’t listen to music, and we don’t really care. We’re however with Phoebe on this one: it’s really horrible when Mom is singing. We’ll normally go upstairs when that happens.

  2. Millie and Spooky are on their way to being excellent pianists. I like Millie’s use of the high C and Spooky’s dissonant chords are fitting for his name.

  3. both piano compositions were really good, but BobbieSue thinks Millie’s was the best, though.
I’m reading a young Sherlock Homes mystery, Death Cloud, Jack is reading The Confessions of St. Augustine and BobbieSue is reading another inspirational book, Praying at Burger King. We got to keep those book reviews coming!!! We love you, especially Penny and Mille. Simon is thinking about Joanie; he’s kind of shy but we’ll let you know what he decides!!

    1. Millie has named his composition “BobbieSue”. You have a lot of books going on like we do 🙂 Love to all of you XO

  4. Well, let’s just say that a recording contract may NOT be in your future!! HAHAHAHA The book sounds like fun though – didn’t know that story about the kitty-music-composer. Very cool!

    Hugs, Sammy

  5. I love the cats and pianos! I’ll have to look for Ketzel’s book. Our cats weren’t too fond of the piano, but every once in a while they would strike a few keys.

    1. Mine usually don’t have access to it, but I let them for the videos. It is a cute book. Thank you for visiting.

  6. My goodness, what musical prodigies you all are! And the book you read sounds like such a cute and fun read.

I’m reading a book of sci-fi/fantasy short stories by a new author I’ve discovered, Mike Resnick. It’s in my favorite genre, and I’m really enjoying it.

    Purrs!

    1. You are too sweet to say they are musical prodigies 🙂 Have you read Jeanne Foguth’s books, she has a lot of great sci-fi/fantasy too.

  7. Well, to be honest, they could use some lessons from Nora the Cat.
We are reading “Cat Shout for Joy” Joe Grey’s newest mystery. We love that series.
Angel Normie, Mika, Sasha & Grady Lewis

  8. Our Mom just finished reading us The Night Circus. We weren’t sure if we liked it or not but we did sort of like Millie and Spooky’s music. So eclectic and inspiring. Needs a big bang at the end though. Maybe someone could jump on and off the keys right there.

    1. Spooky did much better after I shut the camera off. I missed half of his composition.

  9. The book sounds good – I’ll have to look into getting that for my nephews.

I saw your videos on Google+. You have a couple of kitty composers there!

  13. Wow ! I like ’em both ‘way more than anything I’ve ever heard by Charles Ives ! But Spooky’s has that “phantom of the Opera”/dead Soviet premier vibe !

    1. Spooky and Millie both thank you. I turned off the camera too soon for Spooky, I missed his best work.

  14. Mommy gotted a big giggle out of the cats on the keys! her before cat Tiki who lived with her when she was growing up was a composer! He LOVED the sound when he walked on the keys.
