It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

Hi everyone! We are joining Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? and Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays blog hops today.

Joanie feels she has been working too hard so she isn’t doing a review this week, but she did agree to pose with one of the books. But Did You Die? : Setting the Parenting Bar Low.

Eli of Coach Daddy has a story in this collection of funny parenting advice from several parent bloggers. I am not a parent to human children, but I still found it enjoyable and even hilarious. Eli’s story brought back memories of when my niece played soccer. I agree, nothing quite smells like sweaty soccer gear in your car after practice or a game.

Another story that cracked me up was about one woman and how she doesn’t like to read directions and usually skips part of them leading to some funny things. I highly recommend this collection. Here is the Barnes and Noble link ( I am not affiliated with them, but I like the store). This is the fifth book in the collection, I somehow missed the first four.

The Inner Life of Cats: The Science and Secrets of Our Mysterious Feline Companions by Thomas McNamee was surprisingly good. I feared it would be filled with the history of cats and facts, but it was so much more. There were some disturbing parts that brought tears to my eyes like the statistics for feral cats. It is in there though to help spread the word of TNR and getting people to fix their pet cats.

Throughout the book, he tells of his own cats. My only problem was that he lets them go outside unattended which I would never do.  Other than that, I agreed with his ideas and enjoyed the book. Here is the Barnes and Noble link

  1. Howdy! I’m putting your suggestions on my list for the future. Just started crocheting a baby blanket for a great-granddaughter due in August. No time to read until them. I do have three mysteries lined up to read. The books aren’t nearby and I can’t remember the titles. But my fingers will be busy.
    Enjoy your week.

    1. Congratulations on your future great-granddaughter. Maybe you should get audiobooks to listen to while crocheting.

  2. My human checked The Inner Life of Cats out of the library on her Kindle reader… and then forgot to read it! Grrr.

  3. “skip to read instructions” … what?? Is our Mom featured in a book without knowing it? Oh well, she probably didn’t read the instructions of some Important Notes she got, so know somebody is streaming her life to a big audience.

  4. Have been reading several review of this book around the blogosphere this morning and for the most part, it sounds like it’s got some “good stuff” in it! Glad you enjoyed it………….

    Hugs, Pam

  5. It is amazing what children can survive, isn’t it? These both sound like great reads.

  6. Awww, I love your kitties. So cute.

I’m reading UNSUB by Meg Gardiner.

A riveting psychological thriller inspired by the never-caught Zodiac Killer, about a young detective determined to apprehend the serial murderer who destroyed her family and terrorized a city twenty years earlier.

Have a purrfect Awww Monday. My best to your peeps. ☺

  7. Your books sound a lot more fun than what I’ve got my nose in… M and I are trying to figure out how to make book trailers, and we’re going through Easy Book Trailers 2.0 … it is simultaneously easier and more difficult than one would think, but we’re having a lot of fun and M is convinced we’re getting better.
Hope you have a wonderful week!

    1. I think you are doing a great job with the trailers. I hope you have a great week too!

  8. Joanie, good for you for taking a break! We kitties work way too hard! 🙂 We hadn’t heard of either of those books but they do sound good. Our mommy is reading magazines lately and not any books at the moment.

  9. Those are good-sounding books and we’ll make sure our Mom adds them to her ever-growing reading list. Right now, she’s reading “The Sociopath Next Door,” a nonfiction book that has her better understanding the bully woman who picked on her last year (for running a cat blog of all things). Next on her list is “The Time Traveler’s Wife” but she’s already tried to start it and is having a hard time getting into it.

    1. We own a copy of The Sociopath Next Door, my husband was friends with one for years and didn’t realize it until he got burned. We are sorry your mom had to deal with one, it is amazing how many there are in this world.
I think she would enjoy the movie for The Time Traveler’s Wife, it will be easier to follow.

  10. I listened to a podcast interview with the author of the cat book, and it was interesting. Glad the book was good. I am reading Hidden Figures right now–very good so far.

    1. I don’t bring them outside, I don’t want them to get interested in the great outdoors and try to sneak out.

  11. Well, Mommy is finally reading a book again and it’s called The Bone Witch. OK, it’s young adult, but for some reason she likes those books. For a while there she was addicted to YouTube videos, so this is an improvement!

  12. We have to say that we are allowed outside unattended. Now, we DO have a huge high dog-proof fence, too mant trees fer mean birds to fly in, we get checked thoroughly fer ticks, and we get all our shots about outside things and other cats. And we are mostly around shelter and we have the pond to drink from and TBT calls us in every hour when he isnt out there with us and we stay inside between outside times more than we are outside.

    1. I am glad you have a dog-proof fence. I have a lot of anxiety so that would not satisfy me. I would be too nervous even if I were right outside with my cats.
