It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

Hi everyone! We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays Blog Hop and Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? Blog Hop.

I haven’t gotten any new books in at the library this week so I had to resort to my emergency pile. I have about 40 books set aside from book sales that I tap into in these situations.

P.J. My Friend by Noel B. Gerson was written in 1969. The author tells of how he bought his daughter a tabby kitten to keep her company when she was 5 years old. They truly bonded and were together until he passed while she was in college. The only parts that made me cringe were when she gave him milk and people food. We know now that most cats are lactose intolerance, but back then no one thought of those things. Amazon has some copies for a penny plus shipping.

Joanie is here to wish you a Happy President’s Day!

  1. Yes we didn’t know about milk and cats back then, I guess many of us gave our pets milk. Poor things as I am lactose intolerant now I feel sorry for them.

  2. I have a pile of books for emergency cases as well. Though I usually deem these as ones that I doubt will be favorites of mine, sometimes they surprise me. This one you share here sounds very special, as it reminds me of my bond with my angel Rosie. She was with me from the time I was 4 until I was 26, so I think I would enjoy reading about P.J. and his little girl. I know what you mean about giving kitties milk and other human foods. When I was a child I didn’t know of some of the dangers, such as milk and even grapes and garlic and the like. Luckily, nothing bad ever came of it, but it makes me cringe to think of some of the foods I used to give my furbabies before I knew better. Thank you for sharing this read with us!

    1. You would definitely enjoy this book. You were blessed to grow up with Rosie, I didn’t have a cat until I was married, but I am making up for lost time.

  3. For the moment I read no book I started to read my own blog from 2007 on, that’s also a book, lol ! so many things I had forgotten. It’s interesting !

  4. Good thing having emergency books for when you can’t get out to the library! That’s why my Mom has read her own book a bazillion times (haha). Love Joanie in her Lincoln outfit – she doesn’t look too thrilled but then again what GIRL would like wearing a beard?!?!?!?! HAHAHA

    Love, Angel Sammy

    1. I could reread her books too 🙂 Joanie thanks you. XO and love to you, your Mom and Teddy.

  5. We had one cat that knew he was lactose intolerant. Shadow would turn his nose up to all milk products, he knew they didn’t make him feel good. It sounds like a great story!

  6. I have a stack of books waiting to be read too, but I seem to nab more and more from the library (or libraries, I hit three separate ones!) and every time someone recommends a book, I go right out and check it out!

    1. Same here, but with the recent snow storms, the library hasn’t been getting shipments in.

  8. I woke up this morning and thought it was Sunday again! Must have had something to do with the groundhog earlier this month. Looks like Joannie has an Abe Lincoln hat on, I think. Happy Holiday!

  9. I have not heard of that book. I can’t blame the author for feeding the cat people food–commercial cat food wasn’t as popular then. I too have “emergency” books to read. LOL I am reading an Ann Rule true crime book (a guilty pleasure).

  10. Mom hasn’t been reading as steadily as she was…due to the lovely weather she is taking more walks.
    Hugs madi your bfff

  11. Ya’ll look gawjus. 40 books on da side? OMC Mommy is so amazed dat you can find da time fur all dat. anyways, there’s still peeps givin’ kitties milk and table scraps. Oh well. Big hugs fur all.

    Luv ya’

  12. For a second we thought that WAS Abe Lincoln! 🙂 Our mommy is reading The Circle by Dave Eggers. She’s not sure if she’s going to like it but she’s only about 100 pages in.

  13. That sounds like a good book…maybe something Cat Scouts Book Club would enjoy. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

    1. I bet they would enjoy it if =everyone could get a copy, I don’t know how many libraries still have it.XO

  14. Ellen, Cats are lactose intolerant? I remember someone telling me years ago that milk isn’t good for cats but I didn’t know why. That’s interesting because this Cathy is also lactose intolerant. 🙂
