Infographic Tuesday

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today is medical day so when Ron Rutherford offered an infographic on Flea and Tick Prevention from Havahart Wireless, I was more than happy to accept- especially after our flea fiasco last summer.

Flea and Tick prevention on dogs

Spooky is much better, thank you all for your prayers and purrs. He gave us another scare over the weekend when he didn’t want to eat. He perked up when I fed him chicken baby food with a syringe and is eating normal food now. He does need to have a dental and the broken tooth removed which I hope I can get schedule for this week.

A few of the other kitties were vomiting so I changed their dry food. I know dry food is not ideal, but some of them refuse canned. I was using Purina Pro Plan Savor ( chicken and rice) from a pet store, I contacted them and they will give me a refund, but they haven’t had any other problems. I wonder now if it was some kind of a kitty flu.Very confusing, but thankfully everyone has improved.

Thank you Havahart Wireless for the infographic.

  1. That is a great info-graphic!

We all need to be reminded these things have not gone away…and won’t either…a constant source of misery and a plague of sorts. Our grandmeowmy had Lyme disease and we know some others, too.

    1. Thank you, fleas and ticks are awful creatures. Mty hubby has had lyme 3 times.

  2. Thank you so much for posting this infographic! I read it very carefully and found it very useful!

I’m so glad to hear that your kitties are feeling better! I hope it’ll continue this way.

    1. Thank you, I am glad you found it useful. I hope your kitties are feeling better too.

  3. Good infographic – it’s that time of the year for sure! Happy to hear Spooky is better AND the others are recovering from the “mystery flu” or whatever was wrong…..sometimes food goes “off” even when well packaged by the manufacturer. Kind of a scary thought though isn’t it? Being a pet parents means being ever-vigilant….it’s a full time job and with your crew it’s a “more than full time job” !!!!! My Mom says keeping up with me is a “pawful”……with 15 would be several paws full…

    Hugs, Sammy

    1. Yes, 15 pawfuls is hard to deal with. I was almost to the point of tears with so many vomiting and not knowing the cause. Glad you liked the infographic too. XO

  4. Thank goodness everyone is improved. Not a lot worse for a cat parent than when they get sick like this. If ONLY they could speak and tell us how they feel and what’s going on.

The inför graphic is the best I have ever seen. Thanks to you and Havaheart.

    1. I know what you mean, I wish they could tell us what is wrong. Glad you liked the infographic and here’s to a flea free summer. I hope you feel better.

  5. Great report about the horrible fleas who do cause lots of problems and are very hard to get rid of.

    1. Thank you for letting me know about the B-12 shot, he is doing well now, but I bet that would have helped him recover quicker.

  7. Annabelle has an allergy to flea bites. So I keep a close eye on her and of course keep flea meds on her too. We are glad Spooky is doing better and we hope that continues and that there is no more throw ups for the other kitties.

    1. Thank you 🙂 A lot of my kitties are allergic to flea bites too.

    1. Wow, I didn’t know Nylalbue had food poisoning from Purina, that is awful. I don’t like that they won’t consider their food could be a problem.
Thank you for your happy dance sweet purrince- I wish I could see you doing it cutie XO

  9. I have to have a shot every six months as I react badly to the gunk on the neck. Happily I have been flea free so far!! Let’s hope Spooky and all the others are better soon. Sending purrs xx

    1. I am sorry you have to have a shot every 6 months, but it is better than fleas. Thanks for the purrs. XO

  10. Yikes! We didn’t know we were in a high state for fleas! We don’t ever get out but we still need to be careful!

    1. Thank you and I will email your Mom with my number. I would love help. Sammy’s Mom tried to help me, but I just can’t figure it out. I know you are leaving for Blog Paws so when she gets back and rests up she can call or I can call her. Thank you XO.

  12. Wow, that is some fascinating stuff. Thank you for sharing this infographic!

    Here’s wishing you a flea-free and tick-free summer!

    1. Thank you and the same for you- a flea free and tick free summer 🙂

  13. That was a terrific infographic. Mom learned some good stuff. We are happy that we live in a low flea area and none of us (except Mom) has ever gotten a tick attached. Happy Spooky is doing better and everyone else as well. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

    1. Thank you 🙂 I am glad you never had ticks. Spooky used to be covered in them before we adopted him and brought him in.

    1. Fleas are definitely a nightmare- glad you liked the graphic 🙂

  14. Oh yes Ellen it was Summer of 2011 if memory serves me…I thought the Grilled Tuna Feast was a bit ‘off’. I made her lunch & she ate it…she was so finicky & usually if anything was a bit ‘off’ she would walk away. So I figured maybe my nose was out of whack!!! And then a an hour later she was vomiting & almost having seizures…I rushed her to the Vet’s & Doc Dave was totally not impressed. I contacted Purina & they had a DHL driver pick up all remaining cans I had for testing. Doc Dave had to say Nylablue had pre-existing conditions (Cystitis & Bowel Disease) And the Purina people were waffling on paying up til I said LAWSUIT! I had ALL the Grilled Tuna pulled from stores in town…the cheques arrived very quickly after that move on my part 😉
I never gave Nylablue that kind of tuna again. If she wanted tuna it was Low Sodium Tuna by Cloverleaf! I never got poisoned from it! 😉
The littul Purrince says he is very happy the *happy dance* worked too!!
{{{HUGS}}} an ****paw kissess**** Sherri-Ellen & Siddhartha Henry xxxxxxx

    1. I am glad they at least wanted to test the food that time, also glad Nylablue survived it being that she had health problems. I usually get chicken, turkey and sometimes beef for the kitties plus Prancie gets her venison. It is hard finding something good that everyone likes.
Phoebe sends her love and kisses to her sweet purrince. Love, Ellen and Phoebes

  15. I have always found Purina to be fair with me Ellen. I know am going to see how fair the Zodiac Company is as I am asking for a refund for the Flea/Egg collar I bought for Siddhartha Henry…more will be revealed….
It must be very challenging to feed all 15 & keep them happy 😉
Nylablue used to challenge me almost daily….how she managed to keep as much weight on was a miracle to me!
Siddhartha Henry is not fussy on gravy with his wet food; he is a ‘Pate boy’!!
He loves his chicken & liver pate; chicken pate; turkey & giblet pate. Those are all Fancy Feast.
He also likes Performatrim beef pate & whitefish pate.
He certainly has variety if nothing else!!!!
Prancie eats venison! Wow that is different. Is there a special reason?
    ((hugs)) S-E.

    1. The only places that have Perfomatrim are in the next state CT. I will have to see if Chewy sells it online. Prancie has a food allergy to what we think is chicken ( I couldn’t afford the testing). So she gets rabbit prescption dry food from the vet and the venison cans. The Purrince has a right to variety-he is a purrince. :)XO

      1. I wonderred if Performatrim was available in the USA.
I have used it b4 & find it excellent. I DO like Royal Canin but it is higher priced so the Vet agreed to Performatrim 😉
I can not afford their canned food on top so I have to use some Fancy Feast.
MMM rabbit & venison; sounds like a tasty diet….poor Prancie having an allergy. Testing is expensive here also.
Alot of Vet costs seem OTT (over the top) the past few years!!!
One of the reasons I was not going to adopt til this Spring was the cost of shots & fixing. As a member of the Feral Cat group I was able to send Siddhartha Henry under the umbrella & it only cost me $85 for him to be neutered & for Rabies vaccine. Had the littul Purrince not been under care of the group I have no diea how I would have afforded the cost going thru my regular Vet. I am truly lucky!
        Sherri-Ellen

        1. I am glad you were able to get your sweet purrince fixed for $85, even that sounds pricey. Most of my state is really, really good at offering free and very low cost $50 or less sppay/neuter. The shelters get a lot of grants, I wish every place was that good then there would be no homeless pets.

  16. I really love this graphic! Best I’ve seen in a long time. So much good information. Thanks for sharing Ellen.
