Big Book Sale

Happy Monday everyone! Today is fun and games day–for me 🙂 I am off to the biggest book sale of the year ( driving distance from me). My Mom and I are going to Newtown, CT where they have an annual book sale with 120,000 books. It started Saturday so there won’t be quite that many books, but today is half price day. I will be searching for cat books to use in our giveaways.

Do you like book sales? If you do, you can check out : http://booksalefinder.com/   for book sales in your area. I usually find one or 2 books to sell on Half.com or Amazon that end up paying for all my other purchases.

Be sure to comment today for a chance ( or another chance) to win a shark hat and some catnip toys ( 2 fishies and a chicken leg).

Tomorrow is Phoebe’s 12th Gotcha Day so please stop by. She will be sharing the poem that her purrince wrote for her.

  1. TBT has been avoiding book sales for some years. He has too many unread ones and has to catch up before we allow him to buy more.

    1. I don’t buy too many, I actually bring paper and a pen and write a lot down to get from the library. I do that at Barnes and Noble too 🙂

      1. What a great idea! my mom loves the library! She says it’s like shopping – but better. Because: a. no money spent and b. she orders the books on line, sending them to her branch to pick them up and they are waiting on the shelf for her! easy peasy!!! Oh, and, c. my auntie is a librarian!!!

        1. I do the same thing 🙂 We can have 20 on hold at our library so I do that and then use my hubby’s card too 🙂

  2. Book sales are a great way to recycle! I love them. Well, I love books…and cats…and cat books. I keep a “Wish List” of books that I want to read. It is actually a book, too. Enjoy!

  3. My human used to get books from library sales to sell on Half.com, but she wasn’t very successful at selling them! Sadly, they weren’t books she was interested in either – she just thought they might sell.

    1. I find books that I have never heard of and sell those- they seem to be worth more than really popular ones. It took me years to figure that out.

  4. Twice a year we have one, mom always end up with stacks of books.
I like books but I don’t like it that they take to much place in my house.
So have fun and let us know what you caught!

    1. I thought kitties liked to sleep on books- and chew on them 🙂

  5. An extra comment here to make sure I am entered for the Shark Hat!!! Even though mom loves the library she is still going to check out that website about books sales {sigh}.

  6. Have fun at the book sale! My Mom and Dad go to a HUGE (and I mean HUGE) used book store in Manassas every month or two to get another big load of books – they are both BIG readers….they can get used books for very cheap then “recycle” them BACK to the store and get more…….they get “credit” for bringing the books back. It’s kinda cool – last week they went and brought home two big bags of books and they only had to spend TWELVE CENTS because of the recycling/bringing back of the previous batch of books! WOO HOO!

    Hugs, Sammy

    1. That bookstore sounds great and I love that you can get credit for the ones you return 🙂 I am glad people still like to read real books instead of nook ones.

  7. We love book sales. Every year the SPCA in our town has a huge book sale to raise money. We always participate. Mom likes to buy cook books and has found some real jewels. She doesn’t read books as often because she needs large print so the kindle is purrfect for her. Wherever we get them we love books.
Have a great time in CT.

    1. That is great that the SPCA does a book sale- I wish I could donate some books to them. I like to buy cookbooks when I am hungry :)Thanks for visiting us.

  8. YAY YAY YAY!! Your blog came!! Woooo hooo! But…the last thing I need is a place to buy books. If I see one more book I am gonna scream lol. Now….I need to find a place where I can SELL some!

    1. YAY! I am glad you got the post in your email and I hope it continues. You can sell books on half.com and Amazon- I sell on both of those with no problems.

  9. Oh no….you just gave the mom a bad link, MOL! The Mom LOVES books, and now hers is going to go off and find book sales with your link and get into trouble. Hers bought about a dozen books at the library sale last month – they have thousands of books there every year for $1-3 each! She found a ton of cat books and narrowed it down to just the ones she got. She was surprised they had so many because they usually only have one or two!

We would not have guessed Phoebe is that old! How old is she? We will be back tomorrow to wish her a happy day 🙂

    1. Book sales are great. I found a lot of cat books today too and had to narrow it down as well. I hope Milita feels better. Phoebe looks forward to seeing you tomorrow.

  10. Woohoo, I love book sales! I too, Pilch, write down titles at the book store, then find ’em at the library…but I’ve got a pretty good-sized cat book library anyhow. I re-read them often enough, so I’ve purchased those special ones…but I get them used instead of new! Enjoy!

    1. I actually wrote some down at the booksale to get at the library just so I wouldn’t buy too many. I do have a lot of cat books too 🙂

    1. Yes, my kitties like to do that and smell all the different scents on them. I don’t mind as long as no one decides to pee on them.

  14. Book sales are awesome! You live within driving distance of Newtown? We had no idea. We’re in Norwalk, CT … about 30 minutes from Newtown. 🙂

Good luck finding some great cat books!

    1. I am a little less than 2 hours from there, but I can’t resist a big book sale. I hope to go to the one next weekend in Southport. I did score a lot of great cat books.

  15. Our Mama loves books but she has a pile by the bedside that she hasn’t even begun to read so no more books or book sales for now, says she! 🙂 Hope your Mama found a few good ones at the sale!

the critters in the cottage xo

    1. I did find some good ones. I have a big stack to read someday, but it doesn’t stop me from getting lots from the library and going to book sales. XO

  16. That shark hat is so adorable! I love your crochet work. It really amazes me. Every time I’ve ever crocheted, it just turned into a circle. MOL I do love books and book fairs. I am trying to minimize the number of books I have right now though because I am out of room for them and I find little time to read lately. I’m kind of weird, I like mystery/suspense/horror kinds of books. Classic horror novels like Dracula and Frankenstein are among my favorites.

    1. Thank you 🙂 My Mom made the shark hat, my skills are not that great. You can never have too many books- or cats 🙂

  17. When TW worked at McGraw-Hill half a century ago, they would have a yearly inventory sale of their books. They charged something like $1/lb or something. She’d come home with tons of books to gather dust.

  18. Mew mew mew mee iss ‘crazypantss’ an yur ‘Beekeeni Gurl’…no wunder wee get along so good!!!!!
