Lucy and I are both recommending an older book: A Snowflake in My Hand by Samantha Mooney. Thank you to Conscious Cat blog : http://consciouscat.net/2015/02/08/conscious-cat-sunday-books-that-change-your-life/ for recently writing about it or I would have never heard of it.

. Written in 1983, it was written by a woman that worked at an Animal Medical Center in NYC. She worked on the cancer ward where many pets stayed for treatments or were surrendered because their owners couldn’t afford treatments.  Samantha had several of her own cats, but always took these patients on vacations to give them time out of the clinic. Just like a snowflake, each one was unique and was only with her a short while.

I usually don’t go for sad books, but this was different. These cats were not abused, they were loved and spoiled until the end of their lives. It was sad that they had cancer, but at least they had love. 005I tried to find some information on the author, but this seems to be her only book and there is no other information. I was curious to know if she continued to work in this heart breaking field.

Please stop by tomorrow when we will be doing all are hopping. And Sunday Phoebe will announce a Dr. Seuss themed giveaway.

  1. I’m definitely going to be participating in the Shopping Around the World hop next month. I wish I had known about it sooner! I have A Snowflake in My Hand in my cat book collection and think it looks like just the loveliest little book. I have to admit that I’ve never read it as I feared it would tear my heart out.

    1. Those kinds of books break my heart, but for some reason, this didn’t make me cry. It was nice to know these cats were loved and cared for their entire lives. I never knew about the shopping around the world either, but this time Sammy of One Spoiled Cat listed it a day ahead for people.

  2. That book sounds very sweet…………blessings to people who do that kind of work….for humans AND animals….ensuring that their last days are wrapped in love. It’s the BEST gift to give anyone but certainly at the end it makes things “right”. Glad you did the shopping thing – isn’t it a blast????

    Hugs, Sammy and Mom
