Another Hopping Saturday

Hi everyone! It is Saturday so we are hopping. For Athena’ s Caturday Art Bog Hop, Millie decided to get an early start to Talk Like a Pirate Day ( 9/19). We found this background on picjoke.net after several attempts on other editing sites failed. None would recognize his face to make him into a pirate.

For P.S. Annie’s 19-Somethin Challenge the question is: What fashion did you like the most and the least from your younger years? I was a kid in the 1970’s so I didn’t think about fashion so I will go with the 1980’s. Shoulder pads, acid washed jeans and parachute pants- yuck!!!! I liked the Flashdance ripped sweatshirts and leg warmers.

  1. Oh boy!! BobbieSue is drooling over that beautiful photo of Millie! She’s imagining boarding that ship and sailing off with him!!! Shoulder pads were my mom’s best friend!!

  2. I remember the Flashdance craze and leg warmers. I don’t think I ever had those. I had two pairs of parachute pants, a black one and a red one. Some of my clothes had shoulder pads, too. I don’t know if I liked that or not, it is just how it was. I never was into the acid washed or ripped jeans look. I was a young adult already when the parachute pants and padded-everything came into vogue.

Bell bottoms and granny dresses were the rage when I was a kid and I loved my granny dress. I don’t remember what I thought about bell bottoms. Mostly, pants were always too long for me and had to be rolled up because I was not and am not a tall person.

Izod shirts, Members Only jackets, those little curvy combs in the back pocket, and blue jeans tucked into the boot tops, all those were the rage when I was a teen. Izod and Members Only were out of my budget and I didn’t wear boots. But, I did have the comb in my back pocket. πŸ™‚

Do you remember the really long sweatshirts worn with leggings…or without, if one was brave?

Thanks for participating in the challenge. Have a blessed weekend. πŸ™‚

    1. I do remember the long shirts with leggings. Nothing was long on me, I am 5ft. 10 inches so I definitely had to wear the leggings πŸ™‚

      1. Everything was long on me…I was only 4’10.75″. Even things meant for petite people had to be hemmed or rolled up for me. I did wear mine with leggings, though. I wasn’t as brave or daring as most of my friends. πŸ™‚

  3. Millie, good idea starting Talk like a Pirate day a little early. We need to do the same.We like that picture. You all have a great day.

  4. Nice pirate ship! We are trying to think of something fun for Meow Like a Pirate Day too. As for fashion, I loved acid-wash jeans “back in the day.” Now they look kind of stupid, as do shoulder pads and parachute pants!

    1. Milliw thanks you πŸ™‚ I had acid washed jeans back then too , but the thought of them repulses me now.

  5. I love your art for today! I had forgotten about Talk Like a Pirate Day coming up, so thank you for reminding us with this pawesome picture.

We love reading your answers to P.S. Annie’s challenge. I’ve never been a fashionable sort. I hate shopping, most especially for clothes, and I loathe dressing up. I’ve pretty much always just stuck with the boring yet comfy jeans and a T-shirt kind of deal, unless I have no choice but to make an attempt to look nice. And even then, my favorite “dress up” shirts were $1 each at Wal-Mart, because then I wouldn’t feel bad for having bought them if they didn’t fit when I got them (for whatever reason, I really despise trying on clothes at stores).

Purrs and Happy Caturday to all of you!

    1. I hate trying on clothes in stores- they have cameras and watch you and I am certain they are laughing at me. I buy stuff then return it if I need to. Millie is glad you like his photo.

  6. Great art!

Mum says she was a kid in the 70s too and hates the flared trousers from that time. From the 80s she hated the puffball skirts, big hair, shoulder pads – in fact most of it she says! She loved the early 80s New Romantic style though, which was so popular in Britain because of bands like Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet. Yes, she was a big fan of those bands!

    Purrs xx

  7. Nice pirate-y picture, Millie! Thanks for the reminder about Meow Like a Pirate Day. We would have forgotten, for sure.

Mom and Dad were kids in the 80s, too … we remember those fashions well. MOL!

  8. What a *nice* pirate!! He will do great. Yargh!

I did not like mini skirts…and now I don’t care for those short at the knee or higher dresses.
    Hats…ugh. to this day…ugh!

To be truthful, I really don’t know what I really liked, MOL! Maybe anything in which the colors were bold and bright like hot pink and bright aqua! Some of those colors have returned:)

    1. I wish they would make a normal length dress or skirt that goes just below the knee instead of too short or ridiculously long.

  9. You’re a lovely pirate, Millie, I would love to sail along with you πŸ˜€ Granny remembers the shoulder pads and while she was making her own clothes in those years, she also filled a few coats with them…the bigger the better she said…MOL.. Thank Cat her outfit changed when she got into the New Wave style πŸ˜€ Pawkisses for a Happy Day πŸ™‚ <3
