The A-Z Challenge-A

HI everyone! I am participating in the A-Z Blogging Challenge for the sixth year in a row. My theme is books about cats. I used that theme in 2016 so I won’t repeat those, but I will tell you what I used back then. I may repeat some books I have reviewed in the past though. I hope to promote a lot of books by fellow bloggers and my own too 🙂

For A, I have an oldie from 1970. Amber A Very Personal Cat by Gladys Taber. Amber is a cute little Abyssinian that steals the heart of the author. I was happy to read that Amber was kept inside and only went out on a harness- this was very rare back then.

The author writes of letting Amber eat what she wanted including things with onion and garlic which we know is a no-no now. This is a sweet book about the love between a cat and her owner. Anyone who has loved a cat will enjoy it, but you may get irritated like I did with mistakes made back then. I recently purchased Conversations with Amber , written in 1978 but haven’t read it yet.

And in 2016, I reviewed Cleveland Amory’s collection of three books about his cat, Polar Bear ( I named my cat after him). To see that post, click here.

Sorry this is a long post, but I also wanted to join In Pursuit of Flavors hosted by Easy and Canadian Cats.

Here is a recipe for a cheeseball, it makes a great appetizer. This is a photo from 2016, I made a Minnie mouse themed one for The Great One’s 1st birthday party. You can shape it into anything like an Easter Egg. Then you can decorate it with pepper and carrot slices.

Ingredients: 1 tub whipped cream cheese, 1 tub whipped cream cheese with chives, 1/2 package Lipton onion soup mix, small container of spreadable cheddar spread ( I use Kaukauna brand), chopped pecans.

Directions: Let the cheeses sit out for an hour to soften then mix together with the onion soup mix. Shape into a ball and roll in chopped pecans. Serve with crackers. Refrigerate leftovers.

  1. OMC. A homemade cheeseball? That is awesome (and delicious). 🙂

Good luck in the A-Z Challenge. You’re certainly off to a great start!

  2. YUMMY !!

    Easy recipe, love that!

    Amber sounds interesting to read.

  3. My human has never seen that book – she wants to check it out. She loved Abyssinians before she knew about Somalis.

  4. SSNS bought me those books by Cleveland Amory way back. As soon as our library opens up again I will look for the books by Gladys Taber. Cheese balls are a favorite here, we just mix them up now though and skip the ball! Minnie Mouse is cute!

    1. I am waiting on a bunch of her books that she wrote about living in the country , but the library is closed here too.

  5. Yummy sounding cheeseball! Those books sound interesting.

  6. Yes, the old books often get me upset by the things done back then that we don’t cotton to today! There are some good ones, though, which is why I still search when at used book stores and garage sales. Actually, library book sales are where I’ve scored some of my best stuff!

    1. I get most of my good ones at book sales too. A lot do bother me though with the mistakes made especially not getting them altered. XO

  7. What a great theme. There are so many wonderful cat books out there.

    Love the cheese ball. Cute.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, Ellen. Big hug to you and scritches to all the kitties. ♥

  8. That looks like an easy and tasty recipe. Unfortunately, my wife has been suffering foot pain for more than a week and I suggested a grain-free diet to see if that helps. Me and my big mouth.

    1. Maybe for Thanksgiving or Christmas. I hope her foot is better soon.

  9. I treasure the Amory books especially the Cat Who Came for Christmas. You inspired me to read it now again. Will there be another Christmas? Ellen I am i.am impressed by those like you who continue blogging everyday in spite of it all. I find it diffjcult. I look forward to reading you even though I don’t comment on many posts so I say it today while I can. Thanks 🐈🐈🐈

    1. Thank you for your kind words. Praying you and Christine stay healthy. This is a scary time. XO

  10. WE love cheese balls here…in fact…my husband might have some mousy dnas he loves all cheese products
    Hugs Cecilia

  11. What a great idea to share some cat books! I have a feeling I’ll have a long reading list by the time you are done!
Did Cleveland Amory write “That’s Our Cleo”? I know the name and was trying to remember from what.

  12. I like that theme:) I also like the cheeseball…so tasty! Thanks for the recipe.

  13. Oh boy…you had us at cheese! Love the Minnie Mouse decor. Too cute.

  14. Great theme I think also and I now want some cheesebals LOL

    Have a safetastic week 😷😷😷

  15. The A-Z challenge sounds like a lot of fun. We bet you have lots of great books to review. We are having fun with all the recipes we are finding on the blogs today. Mom always likes to try new things; now if only she could get to the stores without worrying about this darn virus:(

  16. The Minnie Mouse cheese ball is cute and easy to make.

  17. I hope this comes through. Books are always a fun theme. All those old books had bad advice for cats.

  18. It can be frustrating to read about mistakes people made with their pets in the past, although it sounds like Amber’s owners were above average.

Your cheese ball recipe is going to be filed away for the next party, and i hope that is soon.

  19. I have a feeling my reading list is growing to grow this month, starting with this one!

  20. From Toffee the cat: Ooo, my old woman gasped a bit at letting Amber eat onion and garlic – but I’m presuming it didn’t do her any harm! She says she is going to give the cheese ball recipe a go. I’d rather it was a prawn ball recipe myself. Prawnsssss, droooooool.

  21. Ellen,

Nice new layout! Great blog header with the kitty wearing a mask. Even animals need to be careful these days. Great A2Z start, my friend. Y’all stay safe and sound. Sending love, hugs, and prayers your way!

  22. Awe we bet dat is a pawtastic read!! Mama are gonna has to get those ingredients fur dat cheeseball (if she can find them cause da peeps in FL has losted their mind again cause of da Governor’s orders which are the identical orders him asked nicely fur peeps to do weeks ago…anyhow long story longer we has heard people are hoarding groceries again….eye roll)!

    xoxo,
    Matt & Matilda

    1. Same here, there are certain things you can’t find like meat and toilet paper. XO

  23. Heaven knows we made mistakes after Luna moved in, letting her and then Tilly and Jezebel outside every day. ~cringe~ Thank heaven nothing awful ever happened during that time. That cheeseball is awesome! Happy A-Z blogging, my dear.

    1. My hubby had a cat when we met that used to go out , but when I saw her almost get run over, I decided she would be indoor only as well as any other kitty. Stay healthy! XO

  24. Another lovely book, sweet angel and it seems that I’m just in time for dinner😸More Clean Pawkisses to all of you🙏🐾😽💞

  25. We are looking forward to hearing about all the books. Maybe we can find some good ones for Cat Scout book club. The cheese ball like Minnie Mouse is so cute, and the recipe sounds yummy.
