Purrball Meets Burrball in Brazil

Hi everyone! I have an adorable children’s book to tell you about today. Purrball Meets Burrball in Brazil by Anne Zoet is the sweetest children’s picture book I have seen in a long time. The illustrations are adorable and I love that Purrball is blue. dscf2581-2

Purrball’s family ( a Mom, Dad and little boy named Darryl) are moving to Brazil for a year. When they arrive at the airport, there is an earthquake and Purrball runs away. He ends up in the jungle and befriends a sloth he names Burrball.

I like how modern the story is which includes a cell phone. I also like how they keep Purrball in the plane with them instead of in cargo. I look forward to more books about the adventures of Purrball and Burrball. You can even go to their website purrballandburrball.com and download puzzles and mazes for children. This book is for ages 3-9, but I am going to start reading it to “The Great One” now even though she is only 10 months old. I guess I will have to wait a while for her to do the puzzles though 🙂

You can order your own copy from Amazon.

*Disclaimer: I was given a copy of Purrball Meets Burrball for free in exchange for a fair review. All opinions are my own.

Samurai A Feral Kitten’s Journey to Find a Home

Happy Friday everyone! I have a book to review today that I won on Goodreads. I enjoyed it so much that I want to spread the word. This would be an excellent Christmas gift for kids aged 4-8, but any age will enjoy it.

001

Samurai A Feral Kitten’s Journey to Find a Home by Rosemary Wood is a true story. The author and her husband found a feral kitten and started feeding it. Their pet cat gets very jealous and tries to scare it away. This book explains the plight of feral cats. Here is one line:

” They have no one to feed them and must sleep outdoors at night.”

It is also beautifully illustrated with oil paintings so adults will enjoy this too. Here is the link to the website for the book, from there, you will find out where to purchase if you are interested. This book  has won a book festival award. Animals, Animals, Animals named it 2015 Best Children’s Book.

Purrfectly Purrfect Life at the Acatemy

Happy Friday everyone! Today I am going to review one of the last books that I read with my Lucy. 001

It is a children’s book that I got at a book sale called Purrfectly Purrfect Life at the Acatemy bu Patricia Lauber. Being that my Cat Scout Sammy starts school at Cat Scout University today it seemed fitting.

This book is for ages 8-12 , but I enjoyed it too and would file it under humor in the book store. There are several chapters where the cats write essays about summer vacation and what they want to be. Those were very amusing, similar to the book Cats Letters to Santa .

You can get it on Amazon for 1 cent plus shipping or your library may have it.

See you for Halloween hopping and all the kitty costumes tomorrow.

Beverlee Beaz The Brown Burmese

Happy Friday ! Lucy and I are thrilled to have been given a copy of Beverly Beaz The Brown Burmese by Regan W.H. Macaulay, a picture storybook for young children, illustrated by Alex Zgud, and published by Cricket Cottage Publishing.  Now available on Amazon.com! http://www.amazon.com/Beverlee-Brown-Burmese-Regan-Macaulay/dp/0692470484/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1438907532&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=beverly+beaz+the+brown+burmese

003

This was a very well written and beautifully illustrated children’s book. Beverlee Beaz, The Brown Burmese has a very vivid imagination and is able to amuse herself all day long. For example, she chases a rabbit , but in her mind it is a kangaroo. I think this book is great for teaching children about many different animals as well as how to use their imagination.

I am not a big fan of cats being outdoors unattended, but I know there are many that are. This book made me fall in love immediately with Beverly and I hope it will become a series. This is a book I am going to save to read to my niece’s daughter.

Have a great weekend. We will be hopping tomorrow and Phoebe has a special selfie giveaway on Sunday.

Sammy Sparrow’s First Flight

Happy Friday everyone! It looks like I am on my own today – Lucy is taking another Friday off per order of NUCAT. For those that are not familiar, it is the National Union  of Cats which all my cats seemed to have joined.

I have a great children’s book to recommend today, its about a bird, but a cat does make a brief appearance in it. I was thrilled to be asked to review Sammy Sparrow’s First Flight by Tracy Ahrens. She not only wrote the book, but illustrated it as well.

SSFF8x150

Sammy is a young sparrow who can’t wait to fly on his own. One night he tries to fly when his parents are sleeping and has some problems. I really enjoyed this book and like the lesson it teaches about waiting until one is ready to do something- and parents being there to love and protect.. I also love that $2 of every sale goes to support a shelter. Tracy Ahrens has provided the following information:

Children’s book to assist area humane organizations

Over 20 years ago artwork for a children’s story, “Sammy Sparrow’s First Flight” was born. I was on holiday break from college and sat on the floor in my bedroom using chalks to free images for the story that lived in my mind.

The images have been tucked away in a scrapbook album until now. “Sammy Sparrow’s First Flight” (ages 2-8) was released Dec. 25, 2014 by Guardian Angel Publishing. It is my third children’s book.

In conjunction with the book, I have created the Sammy Shelter Project to help NINE area humane organizations with the book sales. By ordering through the project website, $2 from each book purchase will be donated to the organization chosen and noted on the form. Use this link to visit that page – tracyahrens.weebly.com/sammy-shelter-project.

Current humane organizations set to benefit from this project are: It’s a Pittie Rescue (Peotone, Il.), New Beginnings for Cats (Bourbonnais, Il.), River Valley Animal Rescue (Momence, Il.), Cache Creek Animal Rescue (Anna and Joliet, Il.), Grassroots Animal Rescue (Medinah, Il.), Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County (Beecher, Il.), Iroquois County Animal Rescue (Iroquois, Il.), Kankakee County Humane Foundation (St. Anne, Il.) and Because Animals Really Kount (Kankakee, Il.).

In “Sammy Sparrow’s First Flight,” a young sparrow named Sammy quickly learns why parents set rules. He was told not to fly alone at night. His wings are weak and Sammy falls into a bush below. The world looks scary from the ground. A friendly owl flies Sammy back home to sleep under his parents’ wings.

The story is based on my childhood years of rescuing baby sparrows that fell out of a multi-room birdhouse high up on a pole in a neighbor’s backyard

Initially I went to college to be a veterinarian and changed my major to English. I continue to help creatures with the written word, my art and volunteering for humane organizations. It’s only fitting that I finally let Sammy fly with a mission to help area humane organizations I have grown to know and volunteer with. You can also find information about the project on Facebook under Sammy Shelter Project.

To donate to a participating rescue organization, you must use the form available for download from the Sammy Shelter Project website.

Otherwise, “Sammy Sparrow’s First Flight” can be ordered in eBook form ($5) and print form ($9.95 + $5.95) through Guardian Angel Publishing, www.guardianangelpublishing.com. It can also be ordered in print form through a variety of other book order sites such as www.barnesandnoble.com and Amazon.com.
