Snowball’s Gotcha Day and Tooth Resorption

Today is Snowball’s Gotcha Day! One year ago my mom drove me to CT ( I am a baby about driving on highway) to meet the lady from Snowball’s shelter in NJ. The whole story was in Sunday’s post in case you missed it.

Today is medical day and when I got Snowball she had some issues. I noticed that she didn’t have many teeth which was odd for such a young cat. My hubby and I assumed she had been kicked and lost teeth because she runs when you walk directly toward her. When I took her to the vet, it was discovered that she suffers from tooth resorption which is actually fairly common. I am not a vet so here is a better desription:http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2012/01/17/teeth-resorption.aspx. I was shocked to see it is common being that none of my other cats ever had that problem. It is more common in Persians and I have only had one other one before.

She ended up having to have a couple more removed so she has about 2 left. The good part of this is that she will never need her teeth cleaned 🙂 She seems to have no trouble eating, I give her mostly canned food, but she does like a few croutons ( crunchy food) on top.

  1. Congratulations to Snowball, and to you, her lucky humans. I have a foster-cat who was – and is – fearful of most people. It took her about six months with me before she started purring. But now she jumps on my lap for pets and purrs all the time. It’s wonderful when they learn how to trust, isn’t it?

    1. It is very rewarding when a cat finally trusts someone. I always wonder what made them distrustful to begin with, but it is probably better not to know.

  2. Happy Gotcha Day, Snowball. You look quite fetching in your tiara. Hope you get some extra treats to celebrate. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

    1. Thank you Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giuletta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calisto Jo- my mom got it at Claire’s – the clerk thought she was a little crazy when she said she was looking for a tiny tiara for her kitty.

  3. Happy Gotcha Day Snowball ! Don’t worry about your bad teeth : our Angel Isis was a Persian lady ; at the age of 4, she only had her fangs left. The vet told us that it was better she had no teeth and healthy gums than bad teeth that might cause an infection. She loved to eat crunchy nibbles and lived happy like this until 14 ! Purrs

    1. Thank you for telling me about your Angel Isis, Snowball still likes crunchies too.

    1. Kitties are lucky, they look beautiful even when they don’t have teeth- I would have never known you only had one fang Nissy.

  4. Happy Gotcha Day Snowball! I had a white fluffy cat name Snowball when I was a little girl! She was an awesome cat! She looked a lot like you!
