Phoebe’s Traveling Shades Are Home

When Phoebe sent out her traveling shades in 2016, I had no idea she would no longer be with me when they returned. It was a bittersweet day when they arrived in the mail this week. I want to thank all 19 families that participated. Sadly, several of these families have also lost kitties during this time. I hope they are all playing with Phoebe while waiting for us.

Phoebe’s shades traveled with an autograph book. Reading all the sweet messages to her made me feel like she was still with me. Thank you all for participating and being great models. The shades and the book are safely tucked away in her memory box now.

  5. I’m happy that Phoebe’s sunglasses are home along with all those sweet messages that were collected along the way. They sure had quite a journey! I know Phoebe is smiling down knowing how happy those sunglasses made everyone who wore them.

  13. Oh, wow. I didn’t understand just how that tour worked. What a great idea to include a book! However did you come up with such a cool idea? I can only imagine how bittersweet receiving this must feel. ~hugs~ My heart goes out to all those who lost loved ones, including my friend in Las Vegas who lost her sweet girl Sammi, a beautiful black cat, to kidney failure.

    1. I am sorry about Sammi, kidney failure is awful. Phoebe got the idea from the book/film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. One year, her bikini traveled and the following year, she sent out the shades, but there were so many that it took a longer time to travel .

  26. Miss Ellen, what a grr-eat thing Phoebe did by sharing her shades. I would have luved to have purr-ticipated – sorry my human didn’t know about it or get with the purr-ogram. What a wonderful thing you’re doing by adding the kitty autographs book to Phoebe’s memory box. I can imagine her and all the kitties that have gone before us playing in the beautiful white fluffy clouds. Kisses.

    1. Thank you, I am glad they are safe at home and in her memory box. I wish we could have seen you in them too, I know you would look very cool. I cried when they arrived, but when I started reading the autograph book it felt like Phoebe was with me. XO and love to you and your mum too.

  30. How wonderful for you Ellen that Phoebe’s shades came home to you safe and intact after all that time and travel! We are happy that you have the autograph book as well to add to Phoebe’s memory box. I’m glad that we were able to participate in the traveling shades because I am left with a sweet memory of Phoebe, Mitalee and Esme that I would not have otherwise had. I hope these three angels are laughing, dancing , singing together somewhere where the sun is always shining and where they each have a pair of their very own, cool, Phoebe shades. XO

  37. So bittersweet. Lily Olivia was one of those at our house who donned the sunglasses. We forgot all about the autograph book. Bet that was really nice to read. Mom is really hoping that Phoebe, Lily and Ellie have started a Crotchety Cougars Club at the bridge. Thanks for sharing these great memories on the selfie hop.   38. We were honored to be able to pawticipate in the Traveling Shades. Ernie had a blast wearing them. And we loved seeing all the other kitties that wore them too. 🙂

  40. Once we relate to our pets/animal companions, whatever term you prefer as members of our families, they become so much more than merely dogs, cats or whatever.
    Not everyone is fortunate enough to have that kind of relationship.

  44. I was with great anxiety that we tried on those shades, but then we relaxed and had some fun with them!
    Now all the posts and the shades themselves have become a memorial to your Dear Phoebe and her love of fun things.

    How cool to get that autograph book with all those loving messages for Phoebe.
    Its kind of bittersweet there, too, because Minko also had to go and join with Phoebe and so many others…

    Now petcretary has to go and get some tissues…sniff….

  45. Oh your post moved us so much. I remember Phoebe’s passing with sadness but her sunglasses (or sunnies as they are called here!) brought such fun, and joy to people that you will treasure the memories.

  48. We were so thrilled to be able to participate. Said that our Ellie is now an angel too. We hope all of our angels and our daddy are together and happy and watching over us.
