Hi everyone! I wanted to model my new sweater that Santa brought me, but apparently Santa thinks I am a big fatty like him because it is too big.

No worries Rosie, I have a feeling you will grow into it.  Now shoo! I need to tell everyone about some things they can do to make next year a better one. I can’t believe how many superstitions there are for New Year’s Eve and Day. I know my folks are planning on eating these black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day. They are also going to have corn bread and collard greens-yuck! I hope they are having something else with that stuff.

I read that in Switzerland, they throw scoops of ice cream on the floor at midnight for abundance. I sure hope my folks do that- I would get some licks in before they clean it up.

I also read you should wear white on New Year’s Day. have cash in your wallet and open your doors a crack at midnight. To learn more about these, click here and here.

  2. My human loves corn bread. She is not so sure about the collard greens, but anything to get 2021 off to a good start!

  3. Don’t forget to open the doors and windows at Midnight to let the old year out and the New Year in. Make sure the cats are safely out of the way though! Also no laundry on New Years Day or you risk washing someone out of your life. Yes I am superstitious, but not obsessively so.

  4. Maybe your Mom can modify that sweater a little Rosie so it will fit you! As for black eyed peas and cornbread – my Mom ALWAYS has that for New Years Day. Her Mom always had that for breakfast that day and Mom carries on the tradition! We are very happy to say BUBBYE to 2020 – believe me!

  6. Rosie,even though your sweater is too big, it looks warm and cozy for snuggling. Those are very interesting superstitions for New Years. I hadn’t heard of them before.

  8. MOL MOL MOL yes there will be black eyed peas, collards, corn bread and Picante Pork Chops here.
    I will admit collards are an acquired taste if one was not raised eating them.

  9. Thanks for the tips, Penny! I’ve heard of eating black-eyed peas. cornbread and collard greens but not the other superstitions. Yep, I agree about 2020 and don’t let the door hit you on the way out- I plan to slam it too!

  10. Some of these traditions I didn’t know about, but I did know about the black-eyed peas and cornbread. I’ll take the greens. I love a good pot of greens.

  14. Penny and Rosie and Joanie all look so adorable! It is interesting about black-eyed peas with greens, or with rice, or with cornbread; three different combinations but the black-eyed peas are always there. Happy New Year Y’all! XO

  19. We never heard about Black Eyed Peas! Around here (in our teeny tiny village) is to stand on the front steps and bang pots! Our neighbors on the other side of the border shoot off shot guns as well as banging pots. This gets all the dogs barking! Us cats think the noise is as bad as fireworks. So I guess our New Years tradition is to hide under the bed.

  20. Our tradition inherited from my Mom and Dad is to eat creamed herring at midnight… blech! Ever had creamed herring? But we have been doing it for 46 married years…47, Jan 5… and I had to do it before I met Jerry. It seems to have worked for happiness, health. We will stay with it! Black eyed peas sound gourmet compared to creamed herring in a jar! Rosie, dang, it would have been fun to see you in your new sweater. Thanks for the tips, Penny. Happy New Year!… Maybe you would like the creamed herring… Ha!

  22. Penny, we like that idea about ice cream on the floor very much. We know for sure that our germaphobic Dad wouldn’t eat it at all, so we could really have a grand celebration:)

  31. Our family hasn’t had any New Year’s traditions.
    The Hubby and I usually stay up to watch the midnight fireworks set off by the city; some years, we’ve driven closer and sat in a warm car.
    Nowadays, we simply watch from our front windows, because we can see through the naked limbs of the trees.

  35. I’ve only ever heard the one (just this year) about leaving the door open. Luke would be positively gleeful if we threw ice cream on the floor! LOL

    What fun to read about these New Year’s traditions! I, especially like the way the Sweds do things with the ice cream. I’ll be sure to have my bowl ready if I ever spend New Year’s Eve in Switzerland so to catch some of those scoops of ice cream. lol I thought about fixing black eyed peas for January 1st but I’m not a huge fan of BEP. Look at that, if there was another ‘e’ in that acronym I would beep! 😀 Alrighty, I’m outta here. I hope all of you have a happy, wonderful new year dear furriend! You might want to whisper in your mom’s ear to put a little bacon in those black eyed peas. I’m sure that’ll make tastier for you. 😉

  38. Never heard of those traditions. They sound like southern traditions. I think TW would kill Pop if he threw ice cream on the floor. MOL! She gets mad enough when he drops a Cheerio. Guess no good luck for us again this year.
