Good morning loyal readers. I wonder if any of you have the same problem as cat lovers. Every time someone wants to get rid of a cat, finds a cat or knows someone trying to rehome a cat- I get a call. I have taken many in that way and I always try to make an effort to help any cat I know is in need, but it gets frustrating. The people that do this usually have more room and resources than I do, but I guess they get to feel better by passing the problem along to someone else. I welcome comments about this.
This week someone had me help a cat and luckily, I have friends who lived nearby that were able to rescue it (thank you Sharon and Loretta). I agreed to bring it for medical care at the local shelter. We are truly blessed to have Second Chance in North Brookfield, MA -they offer most medical services at a reduced cost to the public.Dr Restey and the rest of the staff are all truly concerned and just plain wonderful. This poor kitty was young, thin and had what looked liked tumors. I feared we were going to have to do a humane euthanasia.
This is Mia, yes, she has a name now and it turns out she is going to be a Mama Mia. What we thought were tumors are actually mammary development ( in an odd way) and she is due to have kittens within 2 weeks. It is sad that she is still a kitten herself, but now she has a home and Second Chance will help find homes for the kittens after they are weaned. I don’t understand how anyone could have abandoned this cutie or any helpless creature, but it happens a lot.

That happens to Mom all the time…whenever anyone finds kittens or their cat has kittens, or a stray shows up, she gets a call. Luckily she works with a Rescue/TNR group now. We are so happy that little Mia is going to get the care she needs. It is so difficult when kittens have kittens and sometimes the babies don’t survive. We are sending Mia purrs and prayers. Your mom sounds very nice to help so many cats. I will let you know what happens with Mia and her kittens- at least she is safe and flea free now.
Awww! I met her on Father’s day. Mia is sooo tiny!! I couldn’t believe she was pregnant!
Learned something new today I didn’t know cats could have kittens so young. Hope she does well.
They sure can Darlene- that is why it is important to spay/neuter when they are young. Doing that also protects them from certain cancers.
