It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

Hi everyone! Now that the holidays are over and I am trapped in the house due to the cold weather, I have had time to read. We are joining The Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? , McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks and Comedy Plus’ Awww…Mondays.

My Spark is a quote from the author of the book I am recommending. Not sure how I have never heard of Joy Mangano, but until I read her book, I had no idea who she was. I like memoirs and reading how people become successful so I got Inventing Joy by Joy Mangano from the library. If you are not familiar with her, she has invented many products and her first was the wonder mop.

Actually, she started inventing things when she was a kid, but didn’t follow through until she was a single mom with three kids. She now has a huge empire and is a permanent feature on HSN. Her story was very interesting and a reminder that no one is an overnight success, years of hard work go into any successful endeavor.

There is a movie about her too with Jennifer Lawrence playing Joy. I haven’t seen it yet, but I ordered it up from the library and hope to pick it up tomorrow. If you are looking for some motivation this year, I highly recommend her book. It is part memoir and part self-help, with several pages of quotes at the end.

My spark for today is on of Joy’s quotes, ” No matter who you are or where you’re from, you have the power to change the world. ”

Sammy wants to know if he looks fat in his sweater?

If you donated to our friend Toby’s dental, we want to thank you for your generosity. And I want to let you know I am mailing all the packages out today( except for one I am waiting for an address on) of the mats and toys. Sorry for the delay, but it took me a while to make everything and then the weather turned bitterly cold. Also thanks to all who shared and are praying it goes well.

One more thing, please purr and pray for McGuffy’s Reader’s Kenzie, The Cat on My Head’s Cooper Murphy ,Timmy Tomcat’s Mr. Buttons and FurEverywhere’s Milita as they are all not feeling well at this time.

  1. Happy Monday! Thanks for sharing about Joy Mangano- that’s a fascinating story.

Cute cat pic! He looks cozy… 🙂

  2. First, let me say that Sammy does not look fat in the sweater.

Second, Inventing Joy does sound like an inspiring book! I don’t often read memoirs, but that sounds like one worth reading. I hope the movie does it justice. You’ll have to let me know.

    Have a great week, Ellen!

  3. If the title is an actual question, I would like to answer:
I am reading 3 books, at present.
    1. Victor Klemperer.. I Will Bear Witness.. A Diary Of The Nazi Years..1942-1945
2.Dr. David Jeremiah.. A Life Beyond Amazing
    3. Erma Bombeck..When You Look Like Your Passport Photo,, It’s Time To Go Home.

  4. That sounds like an important book to read. I usually like to escape into fantasy adventure type books because we get enough reality. But I also like to balance my life out with a few real life inspirational books also during the the year. Both types of books make me feel a little braver during the year. Thanks for the suggestion!
And that is a very handsome sweater. It’s my favorite color combo and I would wear it!

  5. I love that quote, and I think it is true for kitties, as much as it is for humans.

Sammy, I do think that sweater cuts at just the wrong place.

  6. No Sammy you do NOT look fat in that sweater you look very handsome and I’m jealous and I think I’ll get my Mom to get me a sweater……! We like your Mom’s SPARK idea too……it’s a little like the one my Mom posted today. Here’s to a Happy and SPARKY week!

    Love, Teddy

  7. Ellen,

Nice quote. I do believe we all have it within us to change the world a little, so when we all come together that little turns into a lot. Tell Sammy to not worry about looking fat in the sweater. It’s just an illusion. I know I always feel fat wearing my sweats but they keep me warm. 🙂 Have a good week, my friend!!

    1. Thank you 🙂 And Sammy thanks you too. I hope you have a great week too! XO

  8. That is a great Spark. Sammy, you don’t look fat at all. You look very handsome. You all have a great Monday.

  9. What a wonderful quote, and so inspiring. I have heard of the movie about Joy, but I somehow had no idea she wrote a book. I really should check out both the book and the movie. And Sammy, you look purrfect in your sweater! We are sending our purrs and prayers to all of the furbabies who are ill. We hope they all get well very soon!

  10. Sammy, Sammy, you DO NOT look fat!!! Love your little sweater. We bet Mom made it. Very stylish.
We are reading “Fire and Fury” on our Ipad.

  11. Love your Spark. I’m enjoying this Monday meme very much.

Sammy doesn’t look fat, but he looks warm. That’s a good thing.

I’m reading Palse by Felix Francis.

Have a purrfect Awww Monday. My best to your mom. ♥

  12. Yes, you work hard and work hard and work hard and suddenly you are an overnight success to everyone who didn’t see you working hard all of those years.

A great Spark from a lady who knows of what she speaks, apparently.

Praying for healing for all of our pets that are not feeling well.

  13. Awesome quote! Our Mom and Dad have watched Joy’s movie a few times and love every time. Mom just finished reading Tom Hanks’ “Uncommon Type, Some Stories” and found it mostly delightful. A definite reread now sitting in a great spot in our book library. Have a good week and stay toasty!

    1. I didn’t know Tom Hanks had written anything, I will have to check that out. Have a great week too!

  14. I haven’t heard of Joy Mangano either. I don’t usually watch the Home Shopping Network because I have more than enough stuff and don’t want to be tempted to buy more. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  15. Sammy looks handsome! Nice quote. I forgot to set up a spark today. My minds blank on the matter, so I think I’ll just get into fiction writing. Be well!

  16. I had not heard of the book or the author but it does sound inspiring. – Such a good quote. – Sammy looks pretty snazzy in that sweater.

  17. No, you do not look fat, Sammy, you look cute!
Before I started blogging, I was an avid reader and always looking for new books to read. Now I’m lucky if I read one or two a year, and it’s usually something by another blogger! I’m currently reading “Stray Magic” by Jackie Bouchard. It’s a fun and relaxing book, and hard to put down!

  18. Just getting back to reading. I’ve been frantically working on a new born baby afghan. Now that it is finished and wrapped I can take a deep breath.
The sweet baby is due early February.
    Hugs Madi and mom

  19. I love that spark – it’s so true and one I fully believe in. No Sammy, you don’t look fat in your sweater, you look adorable.

Sammy, we think that sweater is a tad small on you but you otherwise look purrfect 🙂

the critters in the cottage xo

  23. Sammy, we bet you’re glad you have that cute sweater right about now!

Our mom’s reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. Actually, she listened to it via our library’s online audio book feature first, and then we gave it to her for Catmas.

    1. Sammy thanks you. I read that book too and I found it helpful, but in some areas she is too extreme.

  24. That sounds like a good book. Do you think it would be a good book for a book club? I’m supposed to make a suggestion tomorrow night and really don’t have a good idea of a book that might appeal to a big group.

  25. Sammy looks cozy not fat. Joy is a Joy. I didn’t know she had a book out. Went on online and she very smartly is selling books straight from her website and not giving Amazon their huge chunk. I need to do that.

  26. I completely agree! Changing the world doesn’t require any specific resume or skill set. One person with a passion can be very powerful. And we all are passionate about something. 🙂

  27. Loved the Spark! That’s the spirit to make this world a better place <3
We purray for all your furriends, miss Ellen and hope they feel better soon <3
That sweater looks great on you, Sammy, you're not fat at all..honest 😀 Extra Pawkisses to all of you 🙂 <3
