It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

Hi everyone! We are joining Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? blog hop and Comedy Plus’ Awww…..Mondays. This is a slow reading week, due to the snow, the library hasn’t gotten any shipments in from other libraries so I didn’t get anything in this week.
I am reading 2 pretty good books even though they aren’t about cats. In the Great Green Room: The Brilliant and Bold Life of Margaret Wise Brown by Amy Gary. Margaret Wise Brown authored the children’s book, Goodnight Moon and many others in her short life. I am not that far into the book, but so far it is enjoyable. I was surprised to read that in 1928 there were electric cars- I thought the Prius was the first of those.

I am also reading Breaking the Pattern: The 5 Principles You Need to Remodel Your Life by Charles Stuart Platkin. He runs a successful wight loss company and claims these tips can help anyone to improve their life. I haven’t gotten far in this one either, but I do like it so far.

For my Aww…Mondays entry, I have a photo of the cookie my niece gave me for Valentine’s Day.

Β  It is too cute to eat though.

I made some cookies this weekend too. It was my first time making them, I followed the recipe, but used crunchy peanut butter instead. They came out good, but the recipe says it make 48 and I ended up with 19 ( I didn’t eat any cookie dough either). Does anyone else not end up with the amount you should?

  1. That is very sweet of your niece to get you such a cute cookie! It’s really too cute to eat πŸ™‚ Your cookies look very yummy. But 19 instead 48…maybe the recipe is for bite-sized cookies πŸ™‚

  2. You sure did get a lot of snow up there! Hope those yummy cookies hold out and the kitties have plenty of Party Mix to pass around. My Mom makes cookies and NEVER does she get the amount they say it makes but then my Mom makes “generous sized” cookies – those recipes are for mini-cookies I think! My Mom says the bigger the better!

    Love, Angel Sammy

  3. The books you’re reading sound very enjoyable and enlightening. And my goodness, that cookie from your niece is adorable! I rarely, if ever, get the same number of cookies a recipe says. I’m pretty sure I always make mine far larger than they do theirs, and so I usually end up with less, too. Regardless, your cookies look delicious!

  4. That’s the problem with beautiful desserts, you don’t want to eat them, they are too pretty. Happy Monday!

  5. The cookies look very good. Double batch if you want what they say you’ll get. This happens to me too. I think I make the cookies too big.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

  6. guyz….de cookee yur neece gived yur mom iz total lee awesum !!! we say due knot eat it either….we noe thiz soundz crazed but may bee her can spray it with
sum shelax kinda stuff ta make it last for ever ???~~~ πŸ™‚ β™₯β™₯β™₯

  7. Our Mom never gets the amount the recipe says unless she makes them incredibly small and then, the cookies go FAST because each one is just a mini bite! She adds a note to the recipe saying double the batch and everyone’s happy.

Our Mom is still reading her boring Beginning French book and will be for a while. We’re so over her calling us chats.

  8. You’re right … that cookie is too gorgeous to eat! I never get the yield specified … I think I always make the cookies larger than they are supposed to be. 1 tablespoon or even one teaspoon of dough per cookie is a lot less than we think!

  9. Ellen, your cookies look yummy! I’m gonna have to try making some of these but I might get a little resistance from DH. He’s not much of candy Kisses guy, so we’ll see. lol Every time I make cookies my baking never yields what the recipe claims. I suspect has to do with the size. I use a cookie scoop and that helps to make consistently shaped cookies but still fall short according to the recipe. That’s okay. I usually have plenty for the two of us…unless they are super duper good and then they vanish! However, that’s not any fault of the recipe or inaccuracy it’s just we liked them too much. πŸ™‚ BTW, the cat cookie your niece gave you is adorable. You know I need to buy a cat cookie cutter. That would be lots of fun! Thanks for visiting today. Have a good week!

    1. Thank you. We are enjoying these cookies and I already broke into the cat one, but I feel guilty. I hope you have a good week too.

  10. I love to read, but recently I don’t get to it. I like to read historical novels, especially if the novel play’s out in the Middle Ages. I also like all kinds of other novels. Really want to look for a new book to get into.

The kitty cookie is so adorable!? I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to eat it either though… Way too cute!??

It’s never the exact amount from the recipe I end up with. Ever. Usually it’s less, but sometimes I end up with more!?

Love cookies and yours look delicious!? Sweet stuff is so good!

  11. Fiquei com Γ‘gua na boca sΓ³ de ver esses biscoitos, eles
parecem deliciosos! Talvez da prΓ³xima vez vocΓͺ consiga
a quantidade que a receita indicou.

  12. What a cute cookie! Well, Mommy is finally reading a good book. She’s reading “Rosemary, the Forgotten Kennedy.” It’s very interesting. Mommy knew the Kennedy’s started Special Olympics (she’s a S.O. coach), but their involvement in other things is good to read about. Although, she’s sad about Rosemary’s treatment.

  14. Such a cute cookie! The peanut butter cookies look good too! Our mommy is still reading a Debbie Macomber book but she’s disappointed in it so far.

  15. I am reading A Mew to A Kill by Leighann Dobbs, which is book 3 of 5 in the Mystic Notch Cozy Mystery series…. I like this series’ magical elements and the way the author intertwines them with solving murders/crimes.

  16. Petcretary saw those cookies and started drooling…MOL!!! Sometimes she misses things like that …but she sometimes will cheat…Oops we were not supposed to tell you that…

We have a whole shelf full of books by Margaret Wise Brown. Our boys *loved* them all! Sometimes even now pawppy and petcretary will recite some phrase from something she wrote, mostly from that most furmouse Goodnight Moon book! Unfurbro the younger really liked the book about the traffic signals…and um so did Pawppy…and they are both civil engineers, OMC!

    1. Your folks are so good to follow paleo, I have no self control with food. Goodnight Moon is a wonderful book. I was just looking at the photos in the middle of the biography and one shows the actual fireplace that the one ion the book is based on.
