Hi everyone! Today we are joining 2 hops, Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays and Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? This week I was busy with other things so my reading got set aside. I did finish Surviving Cancer, Healing People: One Cat’s Story by Sula, Parish Cat at Old Mission.*
*Disclaimer: I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVED this book and highly recommend it. Sula the cat lives at Old Mission in California, a Franciscan mission which needs many repairs from past earthquakes and to secure it for another one. The book is part of a fundraiser for those efforts.
Sula takes her job very seriously at the mission. She visits a statue of St. Francis every day where she learns of what her duties are that day and who needs her the most. She then enters the church and sits with those people during mass. As a Catholic ( somewhat lapsed) I enjoyed reading about the mass, but you don’t have to be any particular religion to read this.
Sula is mainly white and the California sun has not been good to her. She has had to have surgery for cancer on her ears twice so she doesn’t have ears anymore, but that doesn’t stop her from loving everyone and everyone loving her.
You can read more about her in this article :
She also has a Facebook page
or you can purchase her book on Amazon
We are catching up on old newspapers. TBT reads us the comics. We do unnerstand SOME of them…
Comics are fun 🙂
My human seriously needs to get that book, since we are Californians and she grew up learning about the missions.
She should get it. In the book it says all 4th graders in California learn about the missions.
Pawsum review. Glad you enjoyed da book. Prancie is bootyful as always, and your selfies were great too. Hope you all have a pawsum day. Big hugs.
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
Thank you 🙂 And Prancie thanks you too.XO
My Momma’s been slacking on the reading. She’s been on the same book (Amy Tan’s Valley of Amazement) for months. She says she just doesn’t have time … or she’s too tired and falls asleep. Hmph. One word … catnaps! ~Bear Cat
ps – we love the picture of Prancie 🙂
Prancie thanks you. Your Momma should read to you 🙂
What an interesting book! We went to Sula’s Facebook page and saw how pretty she is – even with no ears. Thanks for the great review, Prancie!!!
Sula is pretty and so sweet.
This book sounds so inspiring. I am also Catholic, and I love St. Francis, so I will definitely have to check this out. Thank you for sharing yet another wonderful review with us!
I know you will love this book 🙂
Oh thanks so much fur sharing, it sounds so interesting – this is another one to add to the list!!!

Sounds like a good book. The mom is reading a book written by another blogger.
That sounds like a fascinating story!
I am reading Armageddon, political non-fiction, by Dick Morris because I want to make an intelligent choice in November. I am also reading Genesis, a sci-fi, by David Tucker – I received this book in return for an honest review.
Until I began this comment, I was too dense to notice the titles were the beginning and end of the Bible….. wonder if there is some sort of subliminal message…
BTW, not a single cat in either book – yet.
That is a strange coincidence about the titles of what you are reading.
Sounds like a good book! Our mom has a HUGE list of books to read now that she is done her master’s and can read something other than academic literature again. She’s always been a huge reader, but has been limited to listening to non-academic stuff through audiobooks during her grad studies.
I am sure she can’t wait to read what she wants.
Sula sounds like such a special sweetie!
She is 🙂
We went right over and “liked” Sula’s FB page. Being Catholic and living in CA within driving distance of the mission we decided we have to have this book. Mommy put it on her Amazon list for next month. We spent too many green papers in August but it was fun.

Thank you for supporting Sula and her cause. That is so cool that you are so close , your Mom can go meet her.
Awww on Prancie. Great model for the book.
The Lost Girls by Heather Young
A stunning debut novel that examines the price of loyalty, the burden of regret, the meaning of salvation, and the sacrifices we make for those we love, told in the voices of two unforgettable women linked by a decades-old family mystery at a picturesque lake house.
In 1935, six-year-old Emily Evans vanishes from her family’s vacation home on a remote Minnesota lake. Her disappearance destroys the family—her father commits suicide, and her mother and two older sisters spend the rest of their lives at the lake house, keeping a decades-long vigil for the lost child.
Have a purrfect Awww Monday. ☺
Prancie thanks you. That sounds like an interesting book, I bet it would make a good movie.

That is cool that she is interviewing Sula 🙂
That sounds like a book mom would like. She loves Califonia history.
She will enjoy this 🙂
Parece ser um bom livro.
sim 🙂
This sounds like an Awesome book. I think it is great for this kitty’s story to be told. Have a great week.
It is a great book. Hope you have a nice week too.
That sounds like a great book. (What book about a cat isn’t a great book?) Mommy is STILL reading Drums of Autumn, one of the Outlander books. She did read To Catch A Cat in between, though. We’ll be reviewing that soon.
Exactly, cat books are great. And To Catch a Cat is no exception 🙂
That book sounds very interesting! We’re not Catholic but we’re cats and our mommy loves the look of Missions so sounds like a great book!
Great review. In this age of ear-tipping, lots of cats have part of their ears missing.
Thank you. Good point about the missing ears, Prancie’s were frost bitten when we found her.
Very good review! I will have to be careful with Sophie’s ears in this California sun.
Thank you. Yes, be very careful.
We haven’t been reading much lately but really should get back to it. We have a magazine and an art picture book sitting on the desk collecting dust.
I hope you can get back to reading 🙂
Oh God bless Sula for always. Sounds like He has.
Sula sounds very sweet.
Reading is un-fur-tuna-tely not a priority here anymore with all the confuser time…maybe when the petcretary and pawppy are retired!
I hope your Mom has more time to read soon.
