Hi everyone! Time for Friendly Fill-Ins Week 45. Please be sure to add your link at McGuffy’s Reader. You can also answer in the comments.
1. The oldest item in my home is __________________________.2. The oldest item in my refrigerator is _____________________.
3. My family heritage is .
4. My favourite family tradition is .
My answers:
- The oldest item in my home is this platter that belonged to my paternal grandmother. I am guessing it is from the 1930’s.
- The oldest item in my refrigerator is mustard, it expired in March 2015-oops! I actually replaced it Thursday along with the ketchup that also expired in 2015.
- My family heritage is Polish on my Mom’s side and French Canadian on my Dad’s side.
- My favourite family tradition is the Christmas Eve meal that we put on every year. My maternal grandfather’s family always celebrated with a Polish Wigilia with a several course meatless dinner. I continued that tradition, but it was a lot of work making the foods and no one was thrilled with them so now we do a buffet, but the important part is being together.
I love family items like that platter. There are memories attached. Oops on the condiments! It happens, though! I love the Polish traditions. Bill’s music friend is Polish. All of his celebrations centre around food. It is all great food, too. Phoebe looks so cute! Hugs. ❤
Oops…I meant Sammy! ?❤
Good job, it is Sammy 🙂
I had no idea condiments expire so quickly, the new ones are only good until December. Polish food is tasty. XO
Mes LOVES your Leprechaun hat!!
Happy St Patrick’s Day!
1. The oldest item in my home is Mommy!!! (Actually it is a print by a Canadian Artist and its was pulled in 1915).

4. My favourite family tradition is mes sleeping on Mommy’s chest.
mes hopes yous has the bestest St Patricks Day EVER!!!
Kisses
Nellie .
Thank you both for your great answers. I knew your Mommy wasn’t the oldest in your home. 🙂 I think that is a great tradition to sleep on your Mom;s chest. Sammy sleeps on my hair some nights, but some nights we have no cats in bed. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! XO
You have some French Canadian in you…I knew we were related…hehe I’m not French Canadian just Canadian. On our trip we will br changing planes in Montreal…I would love to see more of Quebec. The Polish tradition is so amazing to me. Friends have cabbage rolls, perogies and various polish foods for Christmas Eve dinner.
Jean
That would be neat if we were related. I love pierogis and cabbage rolls and kielbasa.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Our oldest item is probably my momma’s bed – it’s an antique from colonial times!
That sounds like an incredible bed. Happy St. Patty’s Day!
Wishing you all a happy St. Patrick’s Day! And we love your fill-ins. What a beautiful platter that is. And you reminded me that I need to do a check of my condiments shelf, as I tend to let that one go by the wayside. I also quite enjoy your answer to #4. Some of my family family traditions also involve Christmas!
Thank you. I never realized that condiments don’t last long, the new ones I bought expire in December. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
A very nice looking platter! You are right about the most important thing being that everyone is together. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Thank you. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Oh what a nice family treasure….the platter is pretty! I’ve heard a rumor that my Mom is going to put the cute St. Pat’s hat on me that you made for me Miss Ellen…..what do you think the chances are that I’ll WEAR IT?????? Happy St. Patty’s Day!! Love your fill-ins.
Hugs, Teddy O’Kimmell
I hope you will wear the hat, that would be so cute. XO
Great fill-ins. The oldest thing in our house is our Mom. Happy St. Patrick’s day to all of you.
Your poor Mom, I bet there is something older. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Haha, we have lot of things that expired many, many years ago in our refrigerator. We need to do cleanup more often!
Your platter is beautiful! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Thank you. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! That Christmas Eve tradition sounds really special. I’m sure I have stuff in my fridge that expired in 2015 too!

1. The oldest item in my home is _Dad has a book that he got from his grandmother that is a 1917 edition of Der Struwwelpeter. It has illustrations and moral tales such as not playing with fire, sucking your thumb. Interestingly it has one about casting aspersions on those of other color and race. It is wonderful and Dad says he learned from this at 4 years old.
2. The oldest item in my refrigerator is _Diet Italian Dressing. I bought it so long ago I cannot remember but the salad is still no where in sight LOL
3. My family heritage is __German, Irish, Jewish. I love all and will wear green but pass on the foamy green beer
4. My favorite family tradition is _A tie between having a nice thanksgiving dinner with family and Christmas eve with family. As there are no others left but me I continue these with friends and my wonderful furs.
Thanks for some very good questions
Dad Pete and Timmy Tomcat
Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, I enjoyed your answers. That sounds like an interesting book. I am glad you still continue holiday meals with your friends, I am sorry that your family is no longer with you though.
That is such a pretty platter. How wonderful that you still have it in your family!
Thank you.
That’s really nice that you have a family heirloom. I agree on your #4. I think it’s good you do a buffet. The most important part is being together.
Phoebe is adorable! I just love that hat you made! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Thank you. That is Sammy -MOL! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Those were great. Seems like lots of humans have old mustard! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

You should have added the bearded spaghetti sauce to your art gallery. I doubt the plate is worth much, but I like it. XO
The oldest thing in my home is a Roman coin.
Oldest thing in refrigerator is “unknown substance” in plastic container.
Ancestry is mixed European.
Family tradition is excessive Christmas decorating.
The coin must be nice. I think the more decorations, the better.
We have expired stuff in our fridge too. Hubby says it’s fine. Mostly condiments.
Have a fabulous day. ☺
I had used the expired ketchup recently with no problems 🙂
1. The oldest item in my home is the house itself! Lot purchased in 1848, house built prior to 1896.
2. The oldest item in my refrigerator is everything! The Hubby replaced everything after the power came back on, so it’s all exactly the same age…lol!
3. My family heritage is Polish/Austrian/Russian on mom’s side, Italian/Austrian on dad’s side. .
4. My favourite family tradition is taking the day off from work for birthdays!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Love the leprechaun hat!
That is an old house, I love older homes though because they have much more character than cookie cutter ones of now. Sorry you lost everything in the fridge, but how nice to have all new items. Happy St. Patty’s Day!
Sammy, you’re so handsome in your hat! {That smudge of brown on your nose is a giveaway, you handsome devil!} I’m too embarrassed to talk about what’s in my refrigerator … you can look under my bed and in my closets … but the refrigerator is where the “skeletons” are around here 😉
I am impressed you recognized Sammy, he gets confused with Phoebe even though he is more than twice her size. 🙂
Yeah, you could count us out of dat dinner too. we’d much purrfur turkey, ham or beef. MOL Big hugs fur all.
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena

No, I didn’t know I was supposed to. I didn’t wear green either, I had my usual black pants and a tan sweater.:)
Happy Friday! I really like the serving platter. Kitty’s photo is so cute! 🙂
Thank you 🙂
That’s a purrty platter! We don’t know what’s the oldest thing in our house but probably something Mommy has inherited but can’t remember.
Thank you 🙂
Happy St. Paddy’s Day!
1. The oldest item in my home is TW. HAH! Wait, Pop says he’s even older.
2. The oldest item in my refrigerator is TW. No? Some Greece alcohol that TW’s ex brought her before she even moved here and they broke up.
3. My family heritage is black Russian. Heh.
4. My favourite family tradition is right now it’s having corned beef for St. Paddy’s Day. The peeps don’t eat beef so this is a big deal for me.
Thank you for your great answers CK. I am glad you get to have some corned beef. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Our Mama is half French Canadian, a quarter Scottish and a quarter Greek! Her French Canadian and Scottish ancestors have lived in Canada for over three hundred years!
French Canadians also like to have a big family meal on Christmas Eve and open one gift 🙂
the critters in the cottage xo
Does your family eat meat pie on Christmas Eve? I have heard of people doing that after midnight mass. XO
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I usually have things in my refrigerator that expired earlier than 2015. I just happened to recently clean it out (which is unusual for me). Have a great weekend!
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
Thanks for the link. We had never heard of Wigilia. The platter is so beautiful. What a lovely thing to own. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

I love the platter and your tradition for Christmas Eve! Sammy looks very festive in his St. Pat’s Hat! I have problems with expiring condiments and salad dressings… 🙂
Thank you and Sammy thanks you too. Good to know other have expired condiments.:)
Cute kitty. 🙂
I love that platter. Cows are one of my favorite critters. I have a decent-sized collection of black and white cow things such as stuffed ones and kitchenware. There was a beautiful painting of one recently in our closest Hobby Lobby, too.
I think that your Grandpa’s tradition sounds like a cool one.
Have a blessed weekend!
Thank you. I love Hobby Lobby, they have a lot of nice art. I hope you have a blessed week too.
That’s a beautiful plate!! We’ll be answering fill ins Monday or maybe tomorrow!!

I heard that ketchup never really expires, the color just turns. Not sure if that’s true, though!
Mine was 2 years old and I hadn’t gotten sick 🙂
That is an awesome platter! Very cool you still have it! I had some really outdated condiments in our fridge, too – but cleared them out before we moved, since there was no sense in moving them with us and the fridge… 😉 I love your Christmas Eve tradition – we do the whole Christmas Eve feast, too, though it’s in Swedish style. 😉 Have a great weekend!
Thank you. I am sure your Christmas Eve is wonderful too.
[…] my responses to this week’s Friday Fill-In Fun – Questions in bold, My response in […]
Friday Fill ins.March 17th
1. The oldest item in my home is my cuckoo clock a huge one from about 1850. My dad, a clockmaker/repairman gave it to me. I grew up with it and now its in my dining room.
2. The oldest item in my refrigerator is a jar of self canned juice from who knows when! I need to dump that for sure.
3. My family heritage is Dutch. And I am Canadian. .
4. My favourite family tradition is having a family gathering each July. Its always fun to see how many we can get to come, and we rarely have had to go inside due to bad weather…once when we had the largest crowd we did, but we also kept the garage cleared out and sat in there too. 25 peeps in a garage, LOL!
Sammy looked great in his St Paddy;s Day Hat!
Thank you for your fill-in answers, I enjoyued them. The cuckoo clock sounds wonderful and special because it was from your father. Your 4th of July gathering sounds like fun. XO
