Friendly Fill-Ins Week 3

Hi everyone! It’s time for Friendly Fill-Ins. I look forward to all your answers. If you don’t have a blog, please put your answers in the comment section.

I came up with the first 2 and Annie of McGuffy’s Reader came up with the second 2.

  1. Whatever happened to ____________________?
  2. I always ________________________ on Memorial Day ( or your country’s equivalent).
  3. I used to wish ___________________, but _______________________.
  4.  I just cannot _________________ , no matter ____________________.

My answers:

  1. Whatever happened to “You’re Welcome”, I get so annoyed when I say thank you and get the “not a problem” response. It just seems so snotty to me, one of my many, many pet peeves.
  2. I always visit the cemeteries on Memorial Day with my hubby, We put flowers on my Dad’s grave and my hubby’s parents’ grave, my Mom puts flowers on her parents’ grave, those are all in our church cemetery. I also visit 2 other cemeteries in town to pay my respects to other relatives and friends.
  3. I used to wish I could be normal, but now I embrace my wackiness.
  4. I just cannot make a dent in my reading list ( I have 754 books on my Goodreads to-read list) , no matter how many hours I spend a day reading.

  1. I agree with you regarding basic manners, all basic manners. It is part of being a good person! Memorial Day is pretty emotional for me. It goes hand-in-hand with Independence Day, for me. I love your “wackiness”! You are a dear person! I have a huge, long TBR List, too. Enjoy!
Thanks for doing this with me, Ellen! HUGS!

    1. Thank you, you are very sweet. I enjoyed your answers too. I am happy we have so many participants and hope it continues to grow. XO

  2. 754 books on your To-Read list?!?!?!?! Oh my goodness!! I thought my hundred or so was bad!!!! I’m glad you’ve embraced your wackiness! Normal is all relative anyway. Love, Sabina

    1. Normal is boring. 🙂 My problem with the reading list is the library doesn’t have most of them and I can’t buy that many books. I will have to keep checking the book sales for some. XO and Love to you all.

  3. I agree with you about the disappearance of being polite – where did that go anyway? I have to say as much as I love reading, you definitely beat me in your “want to read” aspirations! I seem to be more busy NOW since I retired than I was when I was working full-time!!! Love the fill-ins. Link didn’t work for me but I’ll keep trying!

    Happy Friday
    Pam (and Sam)

    1. Thank you for participating, I am sorry the link didn’t work. I am glad McGuffy’s Reader had a working link. The problem with my reading list is the library doesn’t have most of them and I can’t buy that many. XO

    1. It will take forever being that most are not at the library and I can’t afford to buy them all.

  4. 754 books!?! Goodness, I’ve got a dozen piled on my nigh stand (more on my e-reader), but only admit 2 to Goodreads, since I’m actually reading them.

    1. I have a big stack here to read too so I guess my list is longer than 754.

  5. I am a total fan of Memorial Day and of the 4th of July. Outside of Christmas and its true meaning and Easter and IT’S true meaning, those are my only favorite other holidays. The rest including Thanksgiving, might just as well not happen.
I wonder about manners too but I will say that doors are usually held open for me in more times than they are not. I appreciate that. And I am very easily heard saying thanks to them for it…so they know I appreciate it. I wonder what happened to civility on the road? OK..I will blog about it on my own Momma blog, not yours. xox

    1. Men are good at holding doors, but most women just let them go and don’t thank me when I hold them- another pet peeve of mine. XO

  6. I have a lot of books yet to read too. I figure I won’t ever get them all read, and as long as I have a list, there will always be something new to read. LOL I think wacky is good. Who wants to be normal? 🙂

  7. I’m with you on reading…I can’t seem to make my TBR go down at all. Have a great weekend!

  8. These are such great answers. I completely agree with you on #1, as well as #3 and #4. Your #2 is very touching, and it’s so wonderful that you make time to do that every year. Thank you for hosting this great challenge!

    1. Thank you, you are very sweet. And thank you for participating, I enjoyed your answers.

  9. Great answers! Love #3 – being yourself is the best!
There are so many books I’d love to read but so little time! I bet your to-read list keeps growing 🙂

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Thank you. Yes, it grows every day. Hope you have a wonderful weekend too!

      1. I really do believe just maybe between Annie and you and the Friday Fill-In I might get enough motivation to post to my blog again after 9 months. But, I do like just posting the Fill-In in comments… at Annie’s, Pam and Sam’s or here!

  10. That is a huge amount of books on your reading list! I hate bad manners too. Good manners cost nothing but make a world of difference.

    1. Very true about manners. I wish the library had more of the books on my list then I could read them quicker. XO

  11. Since I just visited Washington CD and all of the memorials, and witnessed hundreds of veterans and currently-serving men and women, I am grateful for their service and will attend the parade in town. We live near an Air National Guard Base, so we see a lot of soldiers in the area, and I always give them a smile and a thank you.

    1. That is nice of you to give them a smile and a thank you. I have a great respect for them too, it amazes me that people will risk their lives to protect strangers.

    1. I wish I actually had them all, I have a lot of books, but not that many. I try to get a lot at the library. Have a great weekend too.

  12. Great questions again this week, and great answers too! Your #1 is one of my pet leaves as well. It should be “no problem” since we here this most in service industries where it is their job. The correct answer to Thank You is “You’re Welcome” and nothing less will do! Memorial Day is a good day to visit cemeteries. We should always remember and cherish those who have passed on. Your #3 could be my answer as well… attempting to be “normal” is exhausting and defeating – just be your wacky wonderful self and you well shine! I wish I had more time to read, I don’t get very far with my list these days, but I love reading whenever I can! Reading is a little vacation from life. 🙂

    1. I am glad you feel the same way about #1. I have come to the conclusion that normal is boring. Reading is a vacation and you can be home with your cats at the same time 🙂

  13. Mommy’s reading list grows instead of getting smaller too! Manners do seem to be in short supply these days but it’s nice when someone is polite. Enjoy your holiday weekend!

    1. I agree, it is nice when someone is polite. Hope you have a great weekend too.

  14. Ok, here’s mine. You’re welcome. 🙂

Whatever happened to dogs that walk? Everyone carries their dogs around like luggage nowadays.
I always do something outside on Memorial Day. This year we are getting up early and going to the beach.
I used to wish for more stuff, but now I wish for more time.
I just cannot think of what to put here, no matter how hard I try.

    1. That is a good point about dogs 🙂 I bet the beach will be fun. I agree that more time is better than more stuff. LOL on #4 🙂

  15. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ELLEN YOU HAVE HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD…I ABSOLUTELY DETEST THE ‘NO PROBLEM’ REPLY TO THANK YOU! OH WHERE DID THAT IDIOTIC REPLAY COME FROM ANYWAY.
AND ANOTHER ONE IS ‘everything is AWESOME’ now. Awesome used to be reserved for a very very out of this world event…now giving a cashier the correct change is awesome…
    hugs cecilia

    1. I am glad you feel the same and I feel the same about awesome- and amazing, I keep hearing that everywhere too- and epc…..I could go on and on. I think I am getting grumpy with age.

    2. Madi and Mom I don’t use amazing too often but I do use awesome here and there when I really love an out of this world kind of thing like Friday Fill-ins, wine time, and certain crocheted items… 🙂

  16. Yes! I started noticing the “no problem” response to “thank you” a few years ago and it rubs me the wrong way. I just love #2.

    1. Yes, not a problem has been around a while and it has always annoyed me. Glad you like my 2nd one, it is important to visit the cemeteries.

  17. Great fill ins. Love that you visit cemeteries. That is such a great thing to do on Memorial day. I sure don’t like that ‘no problem’ either. Have a super week end.

  18. Whatever happened to my kibble?
I always blog on Memorial Day ( or your country’s equivalent).
I used to wish I was human, but now I realize I’m way superior.
I just cannot open a can, no matter how hard I bite it.

    1. Those are great answers. I agree that cats are superior to humans- that is why we are the ones scooping your poop 🙂

  19. That’s a lot of books to read. No wonder you’re behind. But don’t despair. Jan is so far behind she fears she’ll be gone before the books are read.

  20. Number 3 of your fill-ins is terrific. Mom loves that you are embracing who you are. Wacky is wonderful. What a great thing to do on Memorial Day. All our family is buried in CA. Mom says that since she started blogging, she never gets to read as much as she likes. She misses it, but has decided she can save it for her “old” age. MOL! XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

    1. Thank you, normal is too boring. I am sorry all your family is buried in California so you can’t visit the graves. You can still say a prayer and think of them though. X0

    1. I hope you can join us, I put a reminder up on Thursday, but I will send you an email reminder. 🙂

  21. Well then I guess I have been being snotty. : ) It has never annoyed me. I actually like it when people say that, but I guess “Your’re welcome!” sounds better. It is just too many syllables, I guess, for people these days.

That’s a lot of books! I only keep a few books that I want to read at a time. But it still takes me a while to finish them.

    : )

    1. I am sure you are not snotty, I am just an old grouchy woman 🙂 I get most of my books from the library so it gives me pressure to finish them.
