Time for The Friendly Fill-Ins. Please leave your link (at bottom of post) here or at my co-host’s Four-Legged Furballs. You can also answer in the comment section.

1. September is the perfect month for __________________.

2. This month, I am looking forward to __________________.
3. My morning routine always includes _________.
4. I have a love-hate relationship with _________.

My answers:

  1. September is the perfect month for picking apples and making apple pie.
  2. This month, I am looking forward to cooler weather- I just know it is coming soon.
  3. My morning routine always includes coffee and kitty cuddles.
  4. I have a love-hate relationship with tuna. I know that is an odd answer, but it is true. Sometimes I love a tuna salad sandwich or tuna casserole and then all of a sudden it repulses me. That is the only fish I eat and it has to be solid white albacore.

Lyrical  # Challenge, Day One. Thank you Cathy ( Curious as a Cathy) for nominating me for this challenge. Here are the rules:

1 Thank the person who nominated you.
2 Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
3 Nominate three other bloggers each day.

Today is my niece’s 5th wedding anniversary. One of my favorite songs is I Loved Her First by Heartland ( written by Elliot Park and Walt Aldridge). She danced with her Father to this song and I cried. Actually, it is so beautiful I cry every time I hear it.

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each other’s face
So much in love, you’re alone in this place
Like there’s nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one, she told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything, life must go on
And I’m not gonna stand in your way
I loved her first
I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she’d find you someday
But it’s still hard to give her away
I loved her first
How could that beautiful woman with you
Be that same freckled face kid that I knew?
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time
I loved her first
I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she’d find you someday
But it’s still hard to give her away
I loved her first
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I’m going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
Yeah, I loved her first
I am not good at following rules so I am not nominating 3 people. If you like music and want to join in the fun then consider yourself nominated.
We are also joining Create With Joy’s Friendship Friday and Feline Friday currently hosted by Comedy Plus.

  1. 1. September is the perfect month for __cooking but I’m with you on everything apple.

    2. This month, I am looking forward to _caramel apples, I look every time I go to the store but might have to just make some. The cooler weather seems to be creeping in, actually, anything under 85 is fine with me.
    3. My morning routine always includes ___a shower, I’m powerless unless I smell good. I miss both coffee and kitty cuddles.
    4. I have a love-hate relationship with ____food, ’nuff said. I believe tuna is a good choice but I have a love/love relationship with it.

    1. Thank you for your answers, I enjoyed them. I love caramel apples and candy ones too. 🙂

  2. I love apple pie and cooler weather. I have some control over the apple pie idea, but just have to keep hoping for cooler weather.

    Kitty cuddles are great. 🙂

I feel the same way about tuna. Most of the time I like it just fine. Other time the very thought makes me sick to my stomach.

I love that song! It is so sweet and a definite tear-jerker.

    Have a blessed weekend, Ellen!

  3. What a beautiful song that is, an excellent choice.

It’s so nice that autumn is on the way, apples and pumpkin are going to be the order of the day.

  4. I hadn’t realized September was apple-picking-month. We’ve got star fruit and mangoes, but have been picking them for a few weeks… The star fruit tree is particularly ambitions – it not only has ripe fruit, it also has a few flowers and, as you might guess, fruit in all stages in between.

  5. Forgot to add: Joanie, am very impressed that you’ve taken on Gremmie’s education.

    1. That is wonderful that you are a vegetarian. I tried on 2010, made it 10 months, but missed cheeseburgers too much.

  6. Such wonderful lyrics to that song…………….and I should say that Joanie just might consider a career in teaching!! I like your fill-ins too – hoping September brings a break in the weather – we are having highs in the 70s this week but no doubt THAT will go back to heat next week. Oh well……… My favorite tuna is solid white albacore too!!

    Hugs, Pam

  7. We really like your fill-ins. That song is really terrific. I bet it is really nice hearing someone singing it. Good job Joanie teaching the ABCs to Gremmie. You all have a fabulous day.

  8. Ellen,

I’m happy that you accepted the lyrical challenge. Your first choice is new-to-me but it’s certainly a tear jerker especially when one thinks in terms of weddings and father & daughter dancing. Oh, I’d be balling like a baby! ?

We used to enjoy picking apples at DH’s parents when the kiddies were small. That’s something we both miss and I hope when we make our final trip back that we can pick a few apples one last time. That’s going to be an emotional visit.

Like you, I’m looking forward to the return of cooler weather. It’s been in the low 90s this week. We’re expected to get a slight cool down beginning this Sunday but it won’t be until the month before a noticeable relief is felt from summer’s heat.

My morning routine always includes a cup of coffee or two or three. 🙂 I like tuna but usually, it doesn’t like me. I once was told that I’m allergic to it. I don’t know how accurate that is but it doesn’t keep me from eating it on occasion since I’m deadly allergic to it.

Have an pAwesome weekend & thanks for hosting the Friday fun!

    1. I love music, thank you for the challenge. That does sound like it will be very sad. I have 3 coffees too 🙂 Have a nice weekend. XO

  9. My daughter just bought a home that has an apple tree in the yard! She is so excited. ☺ We have some matching answers again. Could we be sisters separated at birth? LOL!

  10. How nice, Joanie! ~grin~ I am with you on tuna, though I like chunk light tuna for salads. But it’s the only fish you’ll eat? Oh, that makes me sad. You haven’t lived until you’ve eaten fried Great Lakes perch. Yum. And halibut. Oh, my. We brought a bunch of that expensive fish home frozen after catching them in Alaska. Then there is a little fish called spot and a big one known as wahoo that we used to catch off the Outer Banks shores. Heh… Be well!

  11. Oh, the thought of picking apples and making apple pie has me all the more ready for the weather to cool down and for autumn to really start. This time of year makes me so happy. Your answer to #4 made me smile, because I’m the same way with tuna. I went on a tuna kick a while back and would have tuna on crackers for lunch constantly. I bought tons of cans of tuna to stock up and to properly feed my addiction, and then, suddenly, I got really tired of tuna and now haven’t eaten it in weeks. I still have all those cans in my kitchen cabinet, waiting for my tuna addiction to pick up again.

You chose such a beautiful song. To be honest, though, that’s one of those songs that I know is stunning, but that I also can’t make myself listen to because it makes me feel just a little too melancholy.

Joanie, it looks like you’re the purrfect teacher for Gremmie! Purrs, and happy Friday!

    1. You can always give some tuna to the outside kitties 🙂 It keeps a long time so maybe you will like it again 🙂 Joanie thanks you. XO

  12. Mum and I are definitely looking forward to the cooler weather. And as for tuna, I am a cat that always turns her nose up at that stinky food. Mum says she used to eat tuna for a while before she turned vegan but she also had a love-hate relationship with it.

    Purrs xx
    Athena

  13. Dad always says that Mom makes the best apple pie ever. We usually get some of the apples before all the sugar goes in the pie, so we hope to see some pies baking too.

So far September has been a very wet one here, but we are hoping for some cooler and sunny days ahead.

    Love that song too.

Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  14. Joanie good luck teaching Gremmie his ABC’s
Mom giggled at the tuna love hate relationship.
I love that song too. Mom heard it played at a wedding for a Daughter/Father dance. Brought lots of smiles and happy tears to many there.
    Hugs madi your bfff

  15. Joanie looks very dedicated, let’s hope the Gremlin is a quick learner! You have a lovely morning routine, when I get up my husband has Jackie let out in the garden already, so cuddling has to wait.

  16. Always enjoy your answers! I am definitely looking forward to cooler weather. It has been a horribly hot and humid summer. I’m glad to be done with it. And apples! I can’t wait to bring a whole batch home and make baked apples and apple pies and apple sauce…and on and on it goes. So many delicious recipes!

  17. I feel the same way about tuna. sometimes I’ll eat it and sometimes I barely sniff at it. Gramma had to stop eating tuna cos the smell of fishy cat food turned her stomach and tuna smelled like fishy cat food.

  18. Oh my gosh, I feel exactly the same as you about tuna! I used to love it, but lately, I just can’t eat it. And I’d only eat the same kind as you when I did.
Did they do something to tuna to ruin it for us? LOL
