Come Fly With Me Sammy and Fill-Ins

Hi everyone! Today is a very special day for our dear friend, Sammy. He was one of our first friends when we started blogging and he is a great friend at Cat Scouts to my Sammy. He has his own travel service at Scouts and he stumps us weekly with his Tuesday Teaser. So today, we are all taking him to see something near where we live. Being that he is such a wonderful poet, we thought a trip to Amherst, MA to visit Emily Dickinson’s House/Museum would be the perfect place.

flywithsammy  To see where everyone else is taking him click here to visit Dory’s Backyard where the hop is being hosted. comeflywithus( Easy sadly went to The Bridge this week, but he is in the balloon with Sammy in Spirit).

This week’s Friendly Fill-Ins has a gift theme, apparently we both had the same thought in mind.Be sure to add your link at McGuffy’s Reader.

The Fill-ins:

1. I have a hard time finding a gift for _______________.
2. I have no problem finding a gift for _________________.
3. One of the best gifts I ever gave was                         .

4. One of the best gifts I ever received was                              .
My answers:
1. I have a hard time finding a gift for PEOPLE I DON’T SEE OFTEN THAT I HAVE TO GET A GIFT FOR BECA– USE I WILL SEE THEM ON CHRISTMAS.
2.I have no problem finding a gift for MY HUBBY, MOM, NIECE AND GREAT-NIECE. ( I am having a hard time restraining myself with the great one, I want to buy her everything).
3. One of the best gifts I ever gave was AN ELKHOUND I GAVE MY HUBBY ( He was my boyfriend at the time, I was in college and his beloved Elkhound named Silver passed away. I wanted to get him another one so he wouldn’t be lonely and there was an ad in our local newspaper for Elkhounds. That is the only time I had ever seen an ad for them and there hasn’t been one since. I brought him to the next town to see them and he chose the one that was kept outside the fence in a different area. He named her Thora and she was a sweet dog that lived for 14 years and gave us many stories of all the things she consumed ( vinyl replacement windows, gas lines and mud flaps).
4. One of the best gifts I ever received was A HAND MADE CRIBBAGE BOARD FOR MY 29th BIRTHDAY FROM MY CHILDHOOD FRIEND WHOSE HUBBY MADE IT. ( 29 is a perfect hand in cribbage).

    1. Thank you. If you ever want to go there, you can stay with us- we are only 30 minutes away.

  1. You sure found a purrfect place to take Sammy! And we love your fill-ins, as always! I love your story behind #3. And how special that cribbage board must have been. The meaning behind it is so sweet and special as well – I know nothing about cribbage, but I love that 29 is a perfect hand and that your friend gifted it to you on your 29th birthday. So thoughtful!

  2. I agree that was THE BESTEST gift for your hubby… and maybe that was the sign that you are the best match ever… you picked a super location, BRAVO!… and thanks for including our beloved boy…

  3. Oh thank you for showing me the museum! What a great spot to visit on my “world tour” today. My Mom has always loved Emily Dickinson. Also, we loved your fill-in answers – we didn’t do a post today and I hope you forgive me….seems things are a little jumbled up this morning. WOW on the gift of the elkhound…..that is truly a wonderful gift to give – a companion/pal forever – special indeed! Thanks again for the tour of the museum…..

    Love you forever, Sammy

    1. Sammy, we are going to miss you so much. I know your folks will have broken hearts. I love you and all my kitties do too- especially my Sammy. XO

  4. It sounds like a wonderful place to take a poet, you are a very thoughtful friend.

A dog that ate vinyl windows and a gas line? There have got to be some great stories there!

  5. Aww…Sammy will enjoy that visit with a poet’s history. I sure would!
Great fill-in answers, too. Our first dog together did crazy things, too. After that, crate training became popular for puppies. Yes, we learned! Hugs!

    1. Thank you. We are going to miss Sammy. XO
If you ever want to visit the Emily Dickinson museum, you can stay with is, we are 30 minutes from it.

  6. The Emily Dickinson house is the perfect stop for Sammy! I have a niece and nephew too … I’m always tempted to buy them everything 🙂 That’s a sweet story about finding an Elkhound for your boyfriend (now husband) 🙂

  7. I’m sure Sammy will be delighted that visit! I found your fill-ins fascinating. Here are mine:
    The Fill-ins:

    1. I have a hard time finding a gift for my teenage nephews and nieces whose interests change every two minutes!
    2. I have no problem finding a gift for my sister. She loves painting and always picks out some arty thing for herself!
    3. One of the best gifts I ever gave was paying for my friend to visit her mother, who was terminally ill. My friend was really strapped for cash at the time and it was unlikely she would have been able to see her mother before she died as he passed away a fortnight later. .
    4. One of the best gifts I ever received was a pasty and a bottle of Coca Cola from my niece when she was five! She had picked it out herself in the supermarket and would not be dissuaded by her mum. She’s now 21 and we still laugh about it. .

    1. Thank you for your answers, I enjoyed them. That was kind of you to help your friend get to see her mother again. That is a cute story about your niece.

  8. Seriously, you gave him an ELKHOUND? I’m betting that it’s a rare and unusual gift. Sad that Angel Sammy had to leave us today; purrs and hugs to his family.

  9. Pawsim fill in answers. We don’t know nuffin’ ’bout cribbage, but mommy says 29 is also da purrfect age fur a woman to stop agin’ at. She tried to pull dat one off fur 15 years. MOL Dat was a pawsum place to take Sammy. Big hugs

    Luv ya’

    Dezi and Raena

  10. Me and mum are not quite sure what an elkhound is, but sounds awesome!! I am sure Sammy will really enjoy his visit! We are beyond sad for his mom and dad today! xx

  12. That’s a very beautiful home/museum for Sammy to visit–and Amarula wants you to know you are right about the fill-ins – she gave it some thought and decided that you are right–she loves GIVING the human mice! Sad to hear about Sammy- I wish I had known him longer!

  13. Great answers and how nice to take Sammy to the Museum. We’re going to miss him a lot.

We didn’t do the Fill-ins today but will be back with them next week.

  15. Hmmm…

I have a hard time findin’ gifts for peeps who don’t appreciate the nip.
I have no problem findin’ gifts for cats who know and love the nip.
One of the best gifts I ever gave was filled with the nip.
One of the best gifts I ever received was, you guessed it, NIP.

I’m thinkin’ there might be a pattern here. All the fill-ins are about nip!

    Purrs,
    Seville

  16. Oh Mom Ellen, what a terribly sad sad day for us in the CB. MY heart is so heavy for Sammy and Easy and Treasure’s parents. And now I my sweet furriend Bhu is extremely ill and Fiona is too. I am so worried.

    1. I don’t know Bhu, but we are very worried about Fiona and our hearts are broken for Sammy and Treasure and Easy. XO

  17. Whoa! Great answers. Let me try my paw at them.
    1. I have a hard time finding a gift for no one. I know what I’m getting TW and Pop. TW always has a hard time finding gifts for her male cousins that she only sees for the holidays.
    2. I have no problem finding a gift for Pop even thought he never gives us a list of what he wants.
    3. One of the best gifts I ever gave was myself when I noved in with the peeps.
    4. One of the best gifts I ever received was the Tunnel of Pain. When TW ordered it, Pop told her I’d never use it. I took to it right away and continue to love it.

  18. Awww I’m so sorry to hear of Easy’s passing. 🙁

It sounds like Thora was a pretty interesting dog. We’d had pets that would eat just about anything, too!

That cribbage board sounds like a very thoughtful gift.

    Have a blessed weekend!

  19. We think that museum is a great place to visit. Petcretary enjoyed her books, too:)
Sammy and easy make a nice pair of angels but it is furry sad to know they *are* angels, isn’t it. And the other new angels, too. OMC! Petcretary is running out of tears…
We are sure they had tons of flying fun.

And gifts. OMC, do not get her started on that theme…MOL!
    But here goes:
    1. I have a hard time finding a gift for hubby sometimes, and elder son as well. They are rather fussy and they sure do not *need* anything….
The hardest one to gift is my Aunt, who in a nursing home at age 97 has no room for trinkets, is almost blind and very deaf…she loves cookies, so she gets those, LOL!
    2. I have no problem finding a gift for younger son, he has a new apartment, which means there is plenty of things he could use and be gifted with. Some were already given, early so he could make use of them…so now its gift card season, MOL! That works for the others too…but I don’t find those very personal..
    3. One of the best gifts I ever gave was a framed poem about the seasons in a pastor’s life in our church. I wrote the poem, and my younger son helped me to make a fur season’s background on the computer, upon which the poem was superimposed.
    .
    4. One of the best gifts I ever received was my mac-book…it replaced an ancient laptop…and now I still am in ‘business’ with the same one. Its a great piece of tech! Even though I rely on my techie head menfolk to guide me through some troubles now and then:)
Hey, wait, a gift with built in/live in tech help, wow, now *that* is a great gift!

    1. Thank you for your answers, I enjoyed them. I am sure your aunt loves that you remember her and give her cookies. The gift you made for your pastor sounds very special. And yes, live tech help would be the best gift 🙂
